£600 Taylor Swift tickets?

Birdfeather · 17/07/2023 13:56

We got a Taylor Swift code to try and purchase tickets for our daughters/friends.

The two dates we chose (in advance) to use our code against to try and get tickets, went on sale today.

Despite being in waiting room as soon as I was able and being 5600ish in queue once the sale
room opened, by the time my number came round I could not secure tickets.

Well that’s a lie - I could if I wanted to spend £300 or £600 on a VIP package.

AIBU or does that just price out the average fan? Or am I still living in the past remembering how £25 for a NKOTB ticket was expensive?!

I should add, the two sales were both today - the first this morning and I was in the sale room within 26 mins. The second and I was in the sale room within 19 mins.

There are still £600 and £300 tickets left now.

Did you not know the price before engaging in all that faff?

I did! And I'm not a big fan

SummaLuvin · 17/07/2023 13:59

those are the VIP packages, not face value tickets where the most expensive were (I think) £190 for brilliant seats/standing areas.

Unfortunately the Eras Tour shows are very in demand and it sells out fast. I think a very large portion of tickets was given over to the presale last week leaving not a huge amount for the general sale today.

Yes, we knew the price bands. Didn’t know how many were left though after last week’s sale.

It may be a package but let’s face it, on the whole surely it would be about the ticket. Yes you get merchandise but is that really the draw?

The draw is Taylor Swift, severely limited ticket availability, and FOMO. Packages are always going to be bad value for money - the point is they can sell the same seat for over double the price by throwing in merch that no-one actually wants and profit off desperation to see the act. There is a real benefit with pitch VIP though as those people get priority access so can nab the best standing spots around the stage.

PaterPower · 17/07/2023 14:27

TBH I thought the £190 tickets were massively overpriced.

I think the only person / act I’d pay £600pp to see would be if Freddie Mercury rose from the dead to headline Wembley again!

If she cared about her 'fans' rather than the money she would have had some sort of ballot or done a Peter Kay - don't feed the beast any more. The corporate superstar gig world is beyond crazy now. That said I saw The Who at the 02 in a 110 quid seat for a tenner as they weren't sold out, and I'm with secret comp tickets clubs, but given what remains of their voices they were barely worth that. Chicken and chips for those wanting to burn money was 19.25 and programmes 25 quid.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 17/07/2023 14:50

I've only paid anywhere near that for Prince tickets

FlowersInTheSky · 17/07/2023 14:54

Most fans in the us paid around $400 for a basic, up in the gods seat and $1000+ for standing/great seats.

In comparison that’s cheap here 😅

AutieNOT0tie · 17/07/2023 14:56

We paid £109 for our tickets. Pretty near the back tho

Hufflepods · 17/07/2023 15:00

VIP tickets are more expensive than standard tickers? Who knew??

I had the exact same experience as you by the sounds of it - had code for wembley June and then August - in waiting room at 4000 odds for first date then 3000 odd for second - just a few vip packages on offer - I wouldn’t pay that for so far away. Might the waiting lists get a chance ?

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 17/07/2023 15:19

We have a code for Wednesday. If only the packages are left then my DD and friend won't be going at those prices.

TheLizardQueen · 17/07/2023 15:23

I just managed to purchase 2 GA for Edinburgh at £109 each! Keep refreshing (but go onto 4G or 5G not wifi or they will think you’re a bot) and only have one device open. That’s what we did and got them no problem. Keep trying.

Pastaf0rbreakfast · 17/07/2023 15:24

I had a code for today too…I was only 600 in the queue, got tickets at a reasonable price but you only have 5mins to checkout and ticketmaster took longer than that to process the payment even though I had card details saved etc. so got timed out and when I went to look for more tickets, I could only get ones for £300+ so we have ended up with nothing even though things were looking really good.

123sunshine · 17/07/2023 15:42

It is just luck of the draw (as it often is with conert tickets) I got 4 tickets last week for my daughter and her friends. The first date I tried i couldn't secure 4 tickets. The second date I could at around the £80 ish mark (they didn't have funds for more expesive seats) so got lucky. However they are seated high up in the gods, but my daghter was adamant she would stand in the toilet if needs be just to be there!

justcantgetenough · 17/07/2023 15:58

Im not trying for tickets but it is ridiculous, if demand is high prices will go up. I Imagine they will keep the price high until nearer the concert time and drop the price.

It was same with Madonna, £80 tickets up in the gods are now over £400 and there is loads off them available, same with Taylor. Guess they hope people get desperate and will buy. It's wrong and im not sure if the artists knows, has it in there contract but it's sad to see.

CrackerAndPudding · 17/07/2023 16:07

I know what you mean. The fact that only VIP one's are availability after 15/20 mins of queuing does price a lot of people out.

I expect lots will be resold when recipients see the accommodation prices near the venues for those weekends.

They’re probably the same ones that booked up decently priced accommodation as soon as the tour was announced just in case they got tickets.

Only way to do it!

Cadburyscreamegg · 17/07/2023 16:24

Try twickets towards the date next year that's how I got pink and Queen tickets and paid face value plus about £30 in fees .

JudgementalRaccoon · 17/07/2023 16:29

We got in today for Wembley in June; 4 x front standing at £173 each. My daughter is ecstatic!

pinkhousesarebest · 17/07/2023 16:34

I agree with you. We got tickets today for Lyon by the skin of our teeth, but dd’s friends would only go up to a certain amount ( I think they cost 130 euros). Has been a fan since she was little and has seen her twice- almost three times but then Covid intervened). There should have been some sort of gesture towards those stalwart fans who have grown with her( fan club for example).
The saddest thing - actually brings tears to my eyes) is seeing all the young girls outside the stadiums in the US having scraps of the concert outside. No way to treat the fans that made you Taylor!

gogomoto · 17/07/2023 16:37

There were £60 tickets last week, most went in the presale I'm guessing. Mine were £110.

Lovemusic33 · 17/07/2023 16:42

Dd paid £160 for a ticket at Wembley (closing night) and I thought that was crazy.

Dd only managed to get a ticket as her friend had a pre sale code which you get if you bought her album. I don’t know anyone that managed to buy after the pre sale which does seem really unfair, though I guess true fans would have purchased the album?

I have never paid more than £35 to see anyone but I have never been to a huge concert.

If you stopped buying then the prices would come down. Glastonbury's tickets were £365, and you could take all your own drink and food and tent accommodation, now that is a bargain and loads of other UK festivals where you get 3 days entertainment for 250 quid or so and many family friendly ones as well that don't try and rip you off at every juncture. Taylor doesn't give a rat's cuss for your sacrifices, and you've helped make it the first billion dollar tour and her as rich as Croesus whilst most lesser knows artists are struggling to make a living. Apologies for the derail as you were ....
