£600 Taylor Swift tickets?

Birdfeather · 17/07/2023 13:56

We got a Taylor Swift code to try and purchase tickets for our daughters/friends.

The two dates we chose (in advance) to use our code against to try and get tickets, went on sale today.

Despite being in waiting room as soon as I was able and being 5600ish in queue once the sale
room opened, by the time my number came round I could not secure tickets.

Well that’s a lie - I could if I wanted to spend £300 or £600 on a VIP package.

AIBU or does that just price out the average fan? Or am I still living in the past remembering how £25 for a NKOTB ticket was expensive?!

I should add, the two sales were both today - the first this morning and I was in the sale room within 26 mins. The second and I was in the sale room within 19 mins.

There are still £600 and £300 tickets left now.

I agree with you. We got tickets today for Lyon by the skin of our teeth, but dd’s friends would only go up to a certain amount ( I think they cost 130 euros). Has been a fan since she was little and has seen her twice- almost three times but then Covid intervened). There should have been some sort of gesture towards those stalwart fans who have grown with her( fan club for example).
The saddest thing - actually brings tears to my eyes) is seeing all the young girls outside the stadiums in the US having scraps of the concert outside. No way to treat the fans that made you Taylor!

What are you talking about? She’s not a machine. She can’t do concerts every night forever just to make sure everyone who is a fan of her gets a chance to see her 🙄

CrackerAndPudding · 17/07/2023 16:07

I know what you mean. The fact that only VIP one's are availability after 15/20 mins of queuing does price a lot of people out.

I expect lots will be resold when recipients see the accommodation prices near the venues for those weekends.

My husband was lucky enough to get tickets for the 15th of August. We went to book the Novotel right by Wembley for that date and it was already fully booked.

Yup, most hotels fully booked weeks ago.

There was - the pre-sale for those who bought a physical copy of the Midnights album back in October. That's how I got tickets for DD & I.

FatCatBum · 17/07/2023 16:58

This is why they sold out so quickly, because people are utter utter bastards

£600 Taylor Swift tickets?
Mummynextdoor · 17/07/2023 17:01

Same thing here - by the time I got in only VIP tickets left - but I'd already seen that all hotels near Wembley were fully booked so maybe it wasn't meant to be!

CrackerAndPudding · 17/07/2023 17:01

@meatyryvita glad to hear some of you managed to get tickets. My colleague did, but instead of accommodation they have hired a vw camper van!

2ndMrsdeWinter · 17/07/2023 20:44

It’s a shame that few fans were able to purchase tickets without a presale code - £600 is outrageous. We bought several albums to increase chances of getting tickets for the dates/venues we wanted and tbh I was surprised we found it so easy, because it seems that’s not been the case for most. We gave away the other codes to family and friends who also managed to get tickets.

Agree with pp re the accommodation. We had a hotel booked the evening the dates came out, just in case, and it was £300 for a long weekend. Really glad we planned so far ahead - it’s been a stressful week.

fancreek · 17/07/2023 20:49

There were 1 million U.K. tickets

200000 were sold in presale across all price brackets

800000 were sold in general sale across all price brackets

There was a fair presale system for 'true fans' Hmm were you could have guaranteed your access months ago

She's doing more dates in the U.K. than any other country outside the US, almost as many as in the entirety of Asia and Australia combined.

What more do you want from her?!

ooh - have they released stats on ticket sales across presale and general? I've been really eager to see these, can you tell me where to find it?

fancreek · 17/07/2023 21:04

Sorry @SummaLuvin I can't find it, will keep trying but I read it at some point over the last week!

I did see that 'only' 40000 people joined the presale for Edinburgh and London though, which makes sense why there's a perception that every presale code holder got tickets inews.co.uk/culture/music/taylor-swift-tickets-how-much-uk-eras-tour-prices-explained-pre-sale-released-2467715

AngeloMysterioso · 17/07/2023 21:12

I got 3 x standing tickets in the Midnights pre-sale for £111 each. I think the cheapest tickets available were £70- or £80-something… the first pre-sale we tried on Monday morning, by the time we got through all that was left was 2 tickets that came to like £1300 with all the fees so we left it, but got lucky in the Monday lunchtime sale.
Keep an eye on Twickets closer to the time, some will be bound to come up.

pinkhousesarebest · 17/07/2023 22:27

ScorpioSphinx agree that that would have been a much fairer way of doing it but alas didn’t apply to us as we don’t live in the UK.

trmacc · 18/07/2023 08:38

Never been so stressed! We got tickets (General Standing) on the last night of Edinburgh, first 2 nights both times it seemed like I was quite far ahead in queue (2nd sale was in within 5 mins) but still only VIP Packages left. Also made the mistake of keeping trying different ticket types in case some came available and was identified as a BOT (no 4 or 5g here, so had to use wifi) so had to use a different device for the 2nd and 3rd sale to get around that. Quite pleased with £110/ticket, DDs were prepared to go up to £200 for front standing but they were all gone and I think TBH they were both quite relieved they didn't have to pay that much. No chance of staying anywhere near Edinburgh that night, but we're only 3hrs away so could be worse. Other posters are right, tickets will come up for resale, and on AXS and Ticketmaster they will be face value, so keep looking you might just get lucky.

Mumof2teens79 · 18/07/2023 08:57

I am confused, people talking about general sale....its not a general sale, its still controlled via code, lottery and staged access. Unless I have missed something you can't just go on ticket master now and buy tickets?

Careful with the VIP...if it says platinum its not actually a vip package, just a ticket onsale at what ticketmaster call market price. They hold tickets back and then increase the price to the maximum people will pay.

MayThe4th · 18/07/2023 09:07

It’s pure greed on her part.

And all this releasing codes only meaning that only certain people can even go on to the site to attempt to purchase over-priced tickets has created the illusion of her being an unmissable, once-in-a-lifetime event that people have to pay over the odds to see.

I actually like her music, but with this whole act she’s dropped way down in my estimations.

CornishGem1975 · 18/07/2023 09:22

I paid £225 for two tickets at Wembley (including ridiculous fees). £50 less than I paid 5 years ago for the Reputation tour.

There is no 'general sale', this is it.

Titsywoo · 18/07/2023 11:38

Managed to get tickets for about £80 each. Section 523 so high up but better than nothing.

I don't get your question. Yes the top level tickets are probably too high for the average fan, which is why a) there are fewer of them b) they are so expensive and c) they haven't sold yet! They clearly aren't aimed at the average fan, they are for either superfans who will pay anything to see their idol, or people who cba to do the faff of queuing/pre-sales/voucher codes but are rich enough to pay over the odds for the high level tickets remaining.

If you want to query whether ticket prices are too high for the average fan then you need to look at the average ticket price, surely? And, if, like for TS they have all sold out in seconds despite being very expensive, then, clearly they aren't! Market value, etc.

this (agreeing with @FlowersInTheSky) ! What's the alternative? If tickets were cheaper then there would be even more competition for them. She's touring for nearly a year and a half ffs across multiple continents, there's a limit to how much can be expected of someone!

Also your suggestion doesn't even make sense; she's been releasing music for 17 years so the "young girls" outside stadiums would be too young to be "stalwart fans" who have been part of her fanclub from the start, unless the fanclub let babies/unborn foetuses sign up

And crying for them, get a grip ffs! Every video I've seen they seem to be having a great time, and haven't paid a penny for it! Nobody forced them to go!

They should make a floating price bid marketplace. You register and have to bid your price for the tickets say in a week before the sale. Once the bidding window closes. The system matches bids to tickets and allocates successful bidders if you bid too much then that's your loss and if you bid too little then you don't get to get tickets.

assuming this poster is French as they want Lyon tickets, I don't think Europe had the midnights pre-sale like we did in UK.
