Being reluctant to go to PIL house or go out anywhere with them

We see PIL at our house as it’s safe and secure for DS but at the moment I am reluctant to go out anywhere or go their home as they are lax on safety particularly FIL, AIBU not wanting to go over there at the moment?

Does anyone still use reins!? I always thought they looked like the parent didn't know the difference between a pet and a child, taking them out on a lead.

Yes that's exactly what happened. I meant to take the dog out. Accidentally put the lead on my 2 year old daughter and decided, sod it, might as well carry on 🙄

MN bingo here 😃

Why did you have a child with a useless man, then?

greyhairnomore · 18/07/2023 17:18

How old is your child ?

This is one of the revealing little things that fascinates me about Mn, like the clenching about toilet brushes and the idea that having a wedding vow renewal means one of you was unfaithful.

Dotcheck · 18/07/2023 18:08

Why do you think he/she will spontaneously fall out the window?

Very likely. But as pp said, this thread is hard work and probably a drip feed.

There isn't enough information to provide any useful advice.

He is seven but has ASC and no awareness of danger. DS is far more capable than they realise and even though they have a chain on the front door he is capable of undoing it. He can also run so fast when we go out, we do have a back pack with reigns but FIL wants to take him to an open field and let him run free. Which is ridiculous as DS doesn’t want to run about aimlessly he wants to learn and explore.

Okay, well that makes sense. You could have put that into your OP.

Why don't you just suggest some appropriate days out or activities to all do together?

@Mummysalwaysright that has got to be one of the most ill judged and ignorant comments I have seen on here.

One mumsnetter lost a child because reins weren't used.

You must either hold your child's hand so tightly it must hurt them or you are extremely short and don't need to bend over to hold their hand. Or maybe you never walk with them anywhere.

I wish I was joking when I said my in laws let my then 9 yo and 4 yo 'play' with an airgun and pellets. Apparently it was OK because the kids asked for it!

I was temporarily speechless and have ever since been extremely clear that there are no firearms around my children at any time of any kind thank you.

Happy with eldest using them now age 12 at Scout camp as its a well supervised activity not just random in the garden running round with it aged 9!

So, your DH is unaware of all of this and can’t manage it when with his son and parents?
