Should I collect them?

BurnsBurnsBurns · 16/07/2023 14:13

we always end up with surplus prawn cocktail crisps so a few months ago I asked my sister if she wanted them for the kids. She said she did so I took them over (a Tesco bag full). The week after I took another bag full and then the week after that I visited with another bag full. At this point she asked me not to bring anymore as they now had a cupboard full of them and she only allows her kids one packet a day and they don’t always want prawn cocktail.

So the week after I took the bag to the food bank and they didn’t want them either?!

Two weeks went past and I went to sister house and took two full bags of crisps and explained that the food bank didn’t want them. She agreed to take them. Now she’s asking me to collect them as she has too many. I already have a full bag here to get rid of and really don’t want to take any back so I suggested she pass them on to her neighbour. She said she can’t be arsed (to go next door??!) and that she wants me to collect them today. She initially agreed to take them so WIBU to say no? Nobody eats them here so they’d just go to waste.

The whole thing is driving me mad, my mum used to take them and now she’s refusing too.

I haven’t been on mn much recently but last night I thought I’d have a read for an hour. I’ve never before seen so many obviously silly threads posted. Do you think it’s one person? Or lots of similar people? Very odd. Is it the school holiday phenomenon that I’ve seen people mention in the past?

whoever it is, it's a refreshing change from the threads abusing SAHM, or the threads looking down at working mums.

If you want a more serious but popular subject, start your own thread about keeping your shoes off at home 😂

saoirse31 · 16/07/2023 14:31

Stop buying them yourself. Stop dumping what you don't want on people who don't want them either. The problem will disappear very quickly.

FoxRed2 · 16/07/2023 14:31

Just buy the ready salted, salt & vinegar, cheese & onion multipacks!

WaltzingWaters · 16/07/2023 14:35

Gosh, what a problem. She’s being rather ridiculous to demand you pick them up today. But you’re being rather ridiculous to buy bag fulls of crisps you don’t eat and can’t give away. Start buying different packs of crisps!

UndercoverCop · 16/07/2023 14:35

This is a DH problem, you married the wrong person.
DH likes salt and vinegar and prawn cocktail, I like ready salted and cheese and onion, we both like smokey bacon and any variety of tortilla chip.
It's the only thing you should be asking in early relationship stages.
As you've gone past this stage the only option is to LTB and get yourself on tinder to find a prawn cocktail lover

Lizzt2007 · 16/07/2023 14:36

It's the chicken ones in our house op. The multipack boxes that are prawn , bacon, cheese and onion and chicken, it's cheaper than buying the separate multipacks even allowing for no one liking the chicken ones, and any other mixed multipacks also have flavours we don't like! Grandson has just started trying them and son will eat them when there are absolutely no other choices but we still end up with several packets every couple of weeks .

LakeTiticaca · 16/07/2023 14:42

Send them my way. I son will eat them

WonderingWanda · 16/07/2023 14:46

Stop being so fussy and just eat the prawn cocktail, or stop buying prawn cocktail or just stop eating crisps.

This might be the most ridiculous dilemma I have seen on here!

SheilaWilde · 16/07/2023 14:56

How many bags of crisps are you eating a week to produce bags and bags of prawn cocktail ones?

FlowersInTheSky · 16/07/2023 14:58

LaughterTitsoff · 16/07/2023 14:28

And try eating more healthily.

If this thread is triggering you, may I suggest you hide it?

You have literally no idea how healthily the OP and her family do/don't eat.

Not all foods are the enemy.

Calm down with your buzz words, honey. Triggering indeed 🙄

I eat my fair share of crisps, but not so much I have entire bags of one flavour left over per week.

Unless they’re the Radfords they are eating far too many in a week.

How about, none of your business..?

this is the answer you need OP!

Oysterbabe · 16/07/2023 15:05

Why do you keep buying them?

Post on a public forum? You make it my business.

FOJN · 16/07/2023 15:08

I have no solution to your crisp problem, although prawn cocktail is my favourite flavour, but I am really intrigued by your crisp purchasing habits.

How are you accumulating so many surplus packets of prawn cocktail crisps?

FlowersInTheSky · 16/07/2023 15:06

But OP doesn't care to hear it. It's a pointless and judgemental waste of your time. Does that make you feel big? Give you a nice adrenaline shot?

empatheticpretzel · 16/07/2023 15:09

I used to binge on crisps. It is the sort of thing you just eat loads of until they're gone. Doing that often would make you ill. Stop buying the crisps

INeedAnotherName · 16/07/2023 15:13

If you live in East Midlands....I might know of someone who would be ecstatic to help you 😬

GalileoHumpkins · 16/07/2023 15:15

Wait till it's dark then randomly post them through people's letterboxes.
Put them all in a bowl and stand at the end of your garden offering them to passing strangers.
Give them to small children to scatter behind them so they don't get lost in the forest...

Or do what people in my neighborhood/work does. Come garden harvest time it’s guerrilla warfare with veggies being left on unsuspecting doorsteps in the middle of the night or work desks first thing in the morning before others arrive.

YABVU and yes you need to collect them. Just chuck them in your bin.

And try eating more healthily.

Couldn't resist shoving a bit of sanctimony in there?

ImustLearn2Cook · 16/07/2023 15:21

Yes, collect those bagfuls of crisps and get creative. You and the kids could build a sculpture of a giant shrimp out of the crisps and post it on Pinterest.

FairAcre · 16/07/2023 15:24

bibbityboppityboo · 16/07/2023 14:21

How on earth are you ending up with bags of surplus prawn cocktail crisps?!

Are you a school maths test problem? If Burnsburnsburns has 43 bags of prawn cocktail crisps but palms 35 off to her sister, who returns 50% of the crisps but her mum takes 10% of the original number, how many bags of prawn cocktail crisps are left? 😂

Made me laugh

RoundedToast · 16/07/2023 15:27

One solution would be to agree with your DH to have an open relationship, but only with people who like prawn cocktail crisps.

KatsuYum · 16/07/2023 15:27

How many multi packs are you getting through that you repeatedly have a Tesco bag of surplus prawn cocktail ones?! 😂
