I wasn't working today so I preordered a takeaway to be delivered at 5.10.

Restaurant confirmed at 4.20 as they were preparing to open.

5.10 came and went. "Where's my order?" was merrily stuck at "Order confirmed. It will be with you at 5.10". It carried on saying this until the order was more than half an hour late.

The "call the restaurant" number was actually just eat. Their phone line was automated and directed me to deal with issues in the website, which the website wouldn't let me do.....

This is truly shit service isn't it?

Who should I switch to?

Go out and get the food yourself - chance for some fresh air and 100% reliable service 😃

HereToo · 14/07/2023 17:51

Can you Google the restaurant and call them? That's what I normally do.

JeandeServiette · 14/07/2023 17:52

And it finally just arrived while o was typing the post. So 40 minutes late.

It's clearly a lack of drivers, not the restaurant.

If it’s anywhere like I live you have no choice of anyone else to switch to as Just Eat are the only delivery company other than the individual takeaways themselves. In your situation I’d use restaurants that provide their own delivery service as you rarely pay as much as you do through the big delivery companies

Are you one of these people who assumes everyone drives or lives within walking distance of a takeaway?

I hesitated to do that once I realised it was luck of justeat drivers that was the issue.

Not at all - I don't drive myself - it was tongue in cheek hence the laughing face.

Drews · 14/07/2023 17:55

The drivers are from the restaurant. Just Eat are the aggregate website.

Go direct to the restaurant and get it delivered. It'll probably be cheaper. Just eat take a cut from both customer and the restaurant.

My mobility gets worse as the day goes on so by the evening I'm just lazy about putting myself through it.

If they were even half decent I should make a good customer because of that.

Are they really? Are deliveroo and Uber eats the same model?

OP posts:
TeleTropes · 14/07/2023 17:56

I don’t think JustEat provide drivers, so for those saying there’s no competition - you could (and should) just contact the take away directly and they will deliver themselves.

Any delays are the restaurants fault and you can usually google their number if it doesn’t work via JustEat.

No, Deliveroo and Uber Eats do provide the drivers.

Ah. Interesting. Thanks.

So I should have blamed the restaurant.

Okay then. Stand down. I just had it wrong. Grin

I will bear this in mind in future.

Yes they were late and yes they should have updated you but stuff happens. It’s a food delivery service from a local restaurant, targeted at the lower end of the mass market, carried out by minimum wage workers. Service is always going to be a bit sketchy.

Should have just had a packet of nik naks 💁🏻‍♀️

Just eat has option to provide drivers or not. So they take 25% instead of 30 or what is their rate now.
I find restaurants on just eat and then order direct 😁

Elephantinasandstorm · 14/07/2023 18:11

Do you all not see loads of drivers on electric bikes in orange?

Oh so we can't actually tell whether it was their own driver or not?

Yes there are definitely liveried justeat motorcyclists about.

In my experience, drivers work for both! Orders sit for ages because drivers accept them and say they're at the restaurant when they're nowhere near!

Elephantinasandstorm · 14/07/2023 18:16

Restaurant to me always deliver in car though I know some on scooters , but 99% I had was car.
Just eat have jackets and can have their branded bikes.
Don't get confused by just branded bag. Some use it for restaurant own delivery too. Insulated bag not wasted 😁

Some drivers double dip and use 2 ireven more apps at the same time delivering for more sites. Causea delays and annoyance tp all sides.

LlynTegid · 14/07/2023 18:19

Please consider alternatives to a takeaway if you cannot get there yourself, for whatever reason.

As476 · 14/07/2023 18:19

As it stands, just eat, Uber eats and deliveroo give the restaurant partner the option to use their own drivers, or the ones provided by the platform. I have worked in restaurants that used their own drivers, and for a while, trialled using the platform drivers. Service went massively downhill as the platform drivers were very late, and on occasion, food was going missing from the orders. We stuck to using our own drivers after that.
