Ridiculously petty things that you can’t even say out loud

TheSlowRush · 14/07/2023 17:45

I’ll start.

This has been bugging me all day but I can’t say it out loud to anyone as it’s really not that bigger deal.

Parking is a huge issue where I live, not many people have ORP.

My elderly neighbour got rid of her car a few years ago, we are quite close and she has a driveway, so it was agreed that I could now park over her driveway meaning I am pretty much guaranteed a space right outside my house, rather than having to park halfway down the street.

My lodger has now begun using this space, she works from home a lot too so it’s there for days now sometimes. WAAAaa 🙈🙈.

I can say anything as I will sound like a selfish loon.

Arranging to meet a friend for a long over due catch up....
to then turn up with your close friend who you see very often and sit opposite me having hushed conversations, bloody rude.

some guy over the road from me and a few doors down has taken to parking his car outside my house. All the time. Even though his own drive is empty. It’s a black Subaru with a whale tail and it’s ugly AF. I get disproportionately enraged about it. It’s not even opposite his own house so I have to look at the hideous thing and he Doesn’t. It’s making me angry just typing this out 😡

Park your car there or if you don't drive, buy a very cheap small trailer and park it there!

I get irrationally annoyed by people using a shopping trolley as some sort of walker and lean their boobs and body all over it. They are also inching it down the centre of the aisle- so you cannot pass either side! 😡

Some of us struggle to walk round the supermarket without leaning on the trolley. I can’t use my mobility scooter or wheelchair and do a big shop, I need a big trolley full!

That allocated disabled bay outside my house is registered to me, my house, my car, my blue badge. It is not for you, cunting ignorant neighbour with three cars, to park in and leave one of your fucking cars in for weeks at a time. Oh, and you may wear a nurse's uniform so I assume you work for the NHS, but neither you nor any of your other householders have a blue badge. So you should know better!

So I'll continue to drive around and either park 20mins away (I can't walk anywhere near that far) or pay £££ for a parking permit in a car park half a mile away which is also too far away for me to walk to. Or park and have to pay for a fucking taxi to pick me up and drop me home (also in reverse to get my car). Or just not go out and miss medical appointments of which I have three a week.

AAARRRGGHHHHH!!!

It is not registered to you! Or your car or your badge - they are for ANY blue badge holder to use. This will have been explained to you when it was done

ariaknox · 15/07/2023 04:19

One time I asked my husband to tidy up a little for me before he came to bed
He came up and said it's all done
After about an hour of watching crap tv in bed he asked if I'll get him a drink and a bar of chocolate
Since he tidied downstairs for me I said that's fine I'll go
When I walked downstairs the place was half way tidied I was so annoyed
So I got him a splash of water in his cup not even 1/3 and half a cube of chocolate
Told him if he's gonna do my job half way I'll do his the same 😂

You've just reminded me that this happened to me too.

It turned out they'd decided, in their early fifties, they were both gay (one had been bisexual since her divorce some twenty years earlier) and madly in love with each other.

It lasted about 18 months and caused a lot of devastation in their respective families as, prior to the divorce, they were related by marriage.

In the lead up to their announcement I was very aware of being a third wheel and had put it down to general rudeness rather than there being something more substantial behind their annoying behaviour.

Keep us posted @cleanasawhistle !

SafariAnimal · 15/07/2023 05:42

If you are old and retired, and are going to take several hours going round the supermarket don’t bloody do it on a Saturday morning! You can go any other time of the week, stop clogging up the aisles for those of us who don’t have a choice but to go at the weekend and want to be in and out as fast as possible!
Also there is a special place in hell for joggers who get huffy that you’re in the way… well maybe you shouldn’t have decided to go for a run along the South Bank at 2pm on a sunny weekend! AAARGH!

The neighbour who constantly parks in the disabled bay doesn’t have a blue badge. Most people respect marked bays directly outside a neighbour’s house, don’t they?

Nugg · 15/07/2023 05:44

@Hawkins0001 it's the elaborate stories that give it away. Too much irritating detail, far too easily forgotten. By them, not me 😉

People going through airport security who don't know the 500ml liquid rule. And then try to argue the toss about it. With a massive queue of people waiting behind them.

It's 100ml 😀

Work one - no one is ever going to look at the emails you print off and file. No one.

Ah you work with my ex colleague! Does she still work from 7-6 (on minimum wage, no overtime) because she 'has so much to do'?

When she was on holiday i would cover her work and mine quite easily and still have time to browse the guardian...

• Please do not sit on the bed in clothes that have TOUCHED THE OUTSIDE WORLD omg
• I am a faster reader than you so I should read the paper first.
And a whole bunch of other teeny but arsey things that would make people roll their eyes/edge away from me...

😬🤐 my lips are sealed, obviously

Clothes from the outside world: you sound like my mum! And I’m always in two minds about it (whereas my SO doesn’t care at all 🤨)

reading: when reading forms or similar having to wait for my SO to scroll down when he’s finished reading. It makes me feel like an absolute arse (he has dyslexia…) but I just get so inpatients!! (But my lips are obviously always sealed as well…)

my pet peeve is people not washing their hands after they get up (in the morning).

Washing my hands is one of the first things I do (I was realised this way).

But some people just don’t! And then they touch the bread, fridge etc. 😱😱😱

PretzelKnot · 15/07/2023 06:38

I know it makes more financial sense to purchase one large pizza to share between us, rather than two small pizzas. But I hate sharing food. I want my own little square box with my own little round pizza to gloat over.

One for pedant's corner:
You don't suffer from mental health. You suffer from mental ill-health.

Or "I've got mental health". Yes dear, we all have. Is yours good, bad or indifferent?

BlockedButWhy · 15/07/2023 06:46

I get so angry when people leave their shopping basket in the middle of the aisle and disappear. When I was heavily pregnant I couldn't see a basket underneath bump and almost face planted. Couldn't even say anything to anyone as the basket owner was nowhere to be found 🙄 when I see it now I never say anything because don't want to look like a busy body

Why are you doing this? Tell them it’s your space, show them the paperwork and tell them if they continue to use it you will report them to the council. Why are you suffering? Stand up for yourself and tell them where to go!

I can hear that you are cycling very slowly behind me as you can't get past, but I'm not going to move aside as you should be on the bloody road.

Glad I am not the only militant pedestrian. Told one bloke he could damn well wait as I have to in the car and cyclists never move over for me. Hundreds of miles of narrow, hilly, twisting roads and you can be stuck for ten minutes behind some pillock in Lycra out for a leisure ride and I have an appointment to get to.

NotQuiteUsual · 15/07/2023 06:54

I don't know if it's that the local place that does fillers are bad at it, or if everyone who uses them just want shit loads of filler. But holy fuck, calm the fuck down with the fillers. It looks creepy in an uncanny valley way. JUST GET SUBTLE FILLERS FFS. I feel like I'm living in five nights at Freddy on the school run.

I get irrationally annoyed by that one person on every course that always has something to say. Whenever the tutor asks a question, they're in there sharing their thoughts and always asking questions.

"Ok, we'll end things there for today, unless anyone has any questions or anything they'd like to share?"

"Well actually, I'd just like to share my reflection on today's topic and ask a question about the assignment that's due at the end of next year"

Course you do, Ian. We all knew you'd have something to say. Just fucking shut up for once in your life! Let someone else speak, you don't have to talk in every single bloody class. You're a pain in the arse!

Except he's not a pain in the arse, he's merely being an active and engaged learner. He's contributing to lectures and sharing his experiences. He's making the most of the course and trying to get as much out of it as possible to benefit his personal and professional development.

But by god, it pisses me off!

As a lecturer in a previous role, thank goodness for Ians. Not necessarily holding everyone up at the end but you always know who the people are that you can rely on to engage with the teaching and conversation. Without them, the job and the lectures would be so boring.

Wns5ae · 15/07/2023 07:30

When my friend's daughter (7) comes over to play with my daughter and opens kitchen cupboards (for example) and helps herself to things or explores the house. I am silently screaming at my friend to say something to her daughter but I feel too awkward. Am I the odd one to think in someone else's house this is rude behaviour!?

Nannewnannew · 15/07/2023 07:33

Please stop laughing at everything I say-it’s infuriating. A child killed in a RTC is NOT something to laugh about!
Also PLEASE stop having an opinion on everything, you think you know it all but in reality know very little.
Blimey, I feel better after that.

Not true…

There are two types of disabled bays. One type is reserved for a specific badge holder, and will have the number on the sign. They are enforceable

others are general bays for any blue badge holders but aren’t actually legally enforceable

If it’s the size that would fit under a train table it’s not that big then put it on your lap, not where people’s legs are - not sure why you’re struggling with the concept that the place people’s legs need to fit isn’t where you place your bag. The alternative is to stand with your bag in the area by the toilet, like many people do. Preventing other people sitting for a bag is unacceptable.

Well it’s the norm on local trains. I do appreciate it might be unusual outside the Gatwick corridor, but if everyone tried to stand rather than sit with their luggage under the table, there would be loads of empty seats and not enough standing spaces 😆

Sorry, but you’re wrong.

Why would you not say to the lodger.

"I have an agreement with the homeowner to park my car there, unfortunately you don't have permission so you will have to park elsewhere.'

The end.

Agreed! This is a great thread but I don’t think @TheSlowRush is being petty at all. The arrangement was between neighbours for her convenience, not the lodger’s.

OP, I’d say the above and add in “a designated parking space is not included in your rent”
