Ridiculously petty things that you can’t even say out loud

TheSlowRush · 14/07/2023 17:45

I’ll start.

This has been bugging me all day but I can’t say it out loud to anyone as it’s really not that bigger deal.

Parking is a huge issue where I live, not many people have ORP.

My elderly neighbour got rid of her car a few years ago, we are quite close and she has a driveway, so it was agreed that I could now park over her driveway meaning I am pretty much guaranteed a space right outside my house, rather than having to park halfway down the street.

My lodger has now begun using this space, she works from home a lot too so it’s there for days now sometimes. WAAAaa 🙈🙈.

I can say anything as I will sound like a selfish loon.

If you are going to eat that banana, do not eat it anywhere near me!

Ditto popcorn. I once asked my husband th change cinema seats with me because a woman came and sat on the other side of me with a stinking vat of it, she was actually quite stroppy at me for doing it even when I explained that she would have a vat of vomit if I stayed next to her.

Are you bloody thick? Lift the fucking fish up and put salt and vinegar on the chips underneath it too.

It’s why I alway ask for the fish to be wrapped separately. Saves the chips from getting disgustingly soggy as well 😁

My too petty to say: ‘It’s working at the COAL face, not cold face, moron’.

Mine is a colleague who always says illegible when he means eligible. I did (politely) correct him once but he keeps doing it, I don't think he realises they are different words. It irrationally winds me up (and due to the nature of our job he says it at least a couple of times a week).

One time I asked my husband to tidy up a little for me before he came to bed
He came up and said it's all done
After about an hour of watching crap tv in bed he asked if I'll get him a drink and a bar of chocolate
Since he tidied downstairs for me I said that's fine I'll go
When I walked downstairs the place was half way tidied I was so annoyed
So I got him a splash of water in his cup not even 1/3 and half a cube of chocolate
Told him if he's gonna do my job half way I'll do his the same 😂

In our first house, early 70s, I had to go out and we agreed that he would tidy and hoover the living room and I would tidy and hoover the hall and stairs when I got back. On return I saw that all the upstairs stuff from the living room was on the stairs ready to go upstairs, so I put it back in the living room, he didn't see the point, it had been 'in transit' to upstairs and presumably he expected me to transit it.

Dh - I love you, and you do so much to help me, but please don’t come and eat your lunch at the table while I’m reading the paper because I cannot stand the squelchy noises you make when you are eating. It doesn’t bother me when we are both eating, but if it’s just you eating, I want to scream. And you eating soup is the worst - squelchy noises and the god-awful smell of that pea and ham soup you like so much.

TeenLifeMum · 15/07/2023 11:32

@dunnoboutthisone yes! There’s a steep, bendy hill on my commute and if I get behind a cyclist they are almost going backwards and I end up in first gear because I can’t see to overtake…. My little car really struggles because you need a speed up to get up there! It’s very hard to follow them up there.

I drive up a hill like that fairly often. A section of it has a 1 in 4 incline, and there's a big sign at the bottom that says "unsuitable for cyclists". My car doesn't struggle on hills (125bhp and plenty of torque) but taking it up a long, steep hill at walking pace is an utter pain in the arse.

Any cyclists who think that "unsuitable for cyclists" is a challenge, not a warning, can get in the bin.

@ADHDmother @Beenhereforever1978 careful sharing that. Last time I did another MNer really went for me. I’ve taken some flack on MN before, possibly deserved, but in sharing the “anti reaching out flow chart” I couldn’t work out why I got such vitriolic feedback on a lighthearted thread! It was my first time posting just after my DF died and I was feeling delicate, it really upset me at the time. Obviously that MNer didn’t keep their irritations to themselves!

Oh God, this!! Some families treat food shopping like a fecking family outing!!!!!

It does if you're a single parent of young children.

BruceAndNosh · 15/07/2023 15:55

my team at work who have not grasped the concept that you don’t need to do a reply all to general info emails - thanks Bob, I don’t need to see 40 versions of ‘welcome to the team Sue!’

  • *I used to work at a local branch of a national chain of estate agents. We frequently got emails like "leaving drinks for Jack will be at the Dog and Duck, Exeter city centre, at 5.30" Thanks mate. I work in the Edinburgh branch and haven't a scooby who Jack is.

My DP is a squelchy eater,he also can't wait for food to cool down so he'll make weird sucking noises as he hoovers it off the fork.

We need a support group, @WickedSerious !

Nugg · 15/07/2023 16:40

If you iMessage me and I don't respond within an hour I'm busy. Working or walking or living life away from my phone. There's REALLY no need to follow this up with messages on WhatsApp, Facebook messenger and Instagram. And then an hour later hoping I'm just busy.

(You know I do have a busy life)

Davros · 15/07/2023 17:13

"The plants need watered" - no, they need to be watered.

I thought it was only Americans that did this, but I'm seeing it more and more lately.

This happens a lot on my local fb community page. Along with 'alot', 'chester draws' and 'hen doo'.
