Currently on holiday in Germany and did a day trip to Nuremberg. It's so pretty, that it takes your breath away. I have never heard anyone mention this place unless in a historical context of what happened there in WW2.
Just thought I would mention it in case anyone else is in Germany this summer!

Thank you!

SeatonCarew · 14/07/2023 05:23

No you are not, I was a student near there, and had one of the most romantic nights of my life in Nuernberg.

Beautiful, and the Christmas market in the square is stunning. Thanks for the memories.

😊

InTheStars · 14/07/2023 05:23

Thanks @Germsny. It's a lovely place indeed. I grew up about an hour from there and went to university in Erlangen.

Enjoy the rest of your holiday in Germany ☺️

mjf981 · 14/07/2023 05:25

Germany has some amazing places to visit. I'd say in general it is underrated as a holiday destination (aside form Berlin which I think is overrated..)

Minimochi · 14/07/2023 05:37

Nuremberg is lovely. We went last year and stayed there for a few nights, then took DS to Playmobilland, which is really close. I was pleasantly surprised by the city. It was really pretty.

Germsny · 14/07/2023 05:41

We might easily have not gone to Nuremberg. Now I have seen it, I wish we had stayed there instead of Munich!

Went there on my German exchange. Simply gorgeous place.

malificent7 · 14/07/2023 06:08

I went on my exchange too...just stunning!

Elephantinasandstorm · 14/07/2023 06:53

It's lovely and depending on airport you can get incredibly cheap flights.
Plus it's cheap and easy to get around with public transport (as is standard on continent really).
I loved their sausages. Nice game stews too.

See also Bamberg and regensburg

stuffnthings · 14/07/2023 07:10

Another who went on school exchanges vv near there. A lovely city, have fond memories of it and the surrounding area, even as a teenager I could appreciate it, which says something!

Neodymium · 14/07/2023 07:11

we are going there in December! Will be cold but would love any suggestions for places to go

ApolloandDaphne · 14/07/2023 07:14

We visited on a European road trip a few years back and loved it.

BarbieBunches · 14/07/2023 07:15

Germany is a wonderful country and I agree it’s massively underrated as a tourist destination 🥰

THanks OP
.....might have to visit nurenbeeg

We stayed in black forest a few years ago and loved it. Gengenbach was simply beautiful and if you stayed in villages in black forest you got a Konus card which gave free public transport throughout black forest. Also free use of towns' swimming pools etc. Was great to hop over to France and down to Switzerland also.

Like someone else said, I also found Berlin over rated

KONUS guest card

With your KONUS guest card, you can travel by bus and train in the whole black forest region for free.

I love it. Some of what looks old was actually rebuilt using remains of destroyed buildings after WWII.

It's one of the few cities I would actually consider living in.

Mushroo · 14/07/2023 07:41

Agree! We had the best break there. We went with zero expectations on £20 flights and had such a good time. I rave about it to anyone who will listen

Neodymium · 14/07/2023 07:46

we are driving from Frankfurt to Nuremberg in December. Would love ideas for little villages and places to stop if anyone have any! Little medieval type towns.

StellaOlivetti · 14/07/2023 07:46

I love it too. When we were there I remember thinking I could definitely live here!

Shade17 · 14/07/2023 07:58

Yes, it’s beautiful. The rally grounds are worth a visit to understand the true scale and standing in the same spot as Hitler is quite chilling.

Iwouldlikesomecake · 14/07/2023 08:30

It’s brilliant. We went to the absolute best restaurant there last year. Going back for the Christmas markets this year and can’t wait!

StillWantingADog · 14/07/2023 08:32

Yup. A few years ago we had a wedding anniversary and my parents said they’d look after the kids for the weekend so we thought we’d get flights wherever was cheapest!
that place happened to be Nuremberg
it was lovely- it was this time of year and pretty hot. I’d love to go back at Christmastime- we found some all year round Christmas decoration shops

it’s also really easy if you fly as from getting off the plane to the city centre only took half an hour. The train is just a few steps from the plane.

Whenwillglorioussummercome · 14/07/2023 08:47

I’d also recommend Playmobil World by the way, for kids under 10. It’s not a winter thing, no rides, but amazing playgrounds and imaginative grounds.
