To wonder why the same rules don’t apply to Tattle?

Whenever any crime or scandal is discussed on mumsnet threads are shut down for libel reasons or contempt of court. But that’s all that is discussed on Tattle. Does anyone know why they aren’t subject to the same rules?

Are tattle threads ever positive? Do they create any posts to say nice stuff about anyone? That’s a genuine question. Because the few days I went on, I sensed a desperation for people to be unpleasant about the subjects.

It's a gossip site so that's not really what it's for. If you want to talk about how amazing someone is, you need a fan site.

My message must have been hidden as I added a link to the Rave About section of Tattle, where people post positive things about their faves.

tornwithtattle · 14/07/2023 13:38

There is a rave about section. And to be fair people do sometimes say nice things about whoever the discussion is about, or give their own view which might be a more moderate view than someone else’s - so you get comments like X should have been more on the ball there but in fairness I’ve done the same when knackered.

There are threads and threads though, there are some that definitely cross a line IMO.

CaramelicedLatte · 14/07/2023 13:47

Nothing on Tattle about LL is from sources that aren't publicly available on the internet.

In real life, people discuss thing without "moderation." That's why Tattle exists.

stealthninjamum · 14/07/2023 13:49

I went on tattle a few times because there was a serious of Mumsnet threads about an influencer who was conning her customers and threatening to sue mumsnetters who had criticised her business. I found that tattle had some really fair and intelligent criticisms of someone’s business model and also criticisms of instagrammers selling coaching in pyramid schemes. It taught me quite a lot about influencers. There were also some weird obsessive people.

So I think it’s a different version of mumsnetters who reveal sunlight on a situation but with mumsnetters it’s less likely to be just about trivial gossip but more about serious issues like safeguarding or dodgy politicians / institutions.

MN is primarily used by older women who don't have a lot of experience on the technical side of websites, data etc

Well THAT'S fucking patronising!

WeAreTheHeroes · 14/07/2023 14:20

Not only patronising, it's just incorrect!

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 14/07/2023 14:23

I like Tattle . I must be in the minority. I'm on it daily

Are you that young man who offered to help MNers understand computers and got his arse handed to him in short order?

Florissante · 14/07/2023 14:40

Sorry, Jean. Didn't mean to quote you.

No problem

Are you that young man who offered to help MNers understand computers and got his arse handed to him in short order?

Oh that was really enjoyable. Wasn't the pull quote something like "Yes dear. I just bash my tits in the keyboard and hope for the best?" Grin

Florissante · 14/07/2023 14:53

I remember that quote!

Something like that, yes. He didn't realise he was talking to an expert computer scientist.

Just wondered if there was a balance. Clearly not.

No, there isn't. I actually didn't know about the Rave About section, I've not been on Tattle long, so it's more balanced than I thought. But no, as a gossip site it's always going to veer towards the negative and I don't think this should surprise anyone.

Mn has its own self appointed thread police who kill funny threads and and stamp all over anything they think maybe slightly wrong.

no it’s not. There are quite a few hearsay stories about her from ‘real life’ - eg what she bought at an Anne summers party. Not all from the internet.

I'm genuinely surprised that people on this post describe Tattle as nasty. On the threads I frequent (Secret Celeb Gossip) the fellow posters are in the majority a really good bunch.

I have seen (and been on the receiving end of) appalling behaviour on MN. Never had a so much as a cross word with any Tattlers.

Tattle quote "How can you be that self centred and selfish that you’re glad that your kids didn’t lose you??? Tbh they’re prob better off without her! Why doesnt *** just take them away from this ogre who needs to be in a padded cell to stop her being a sex pest".

Regular comments calling people "cunts", "vile", "repulsive pig" etc. It's not for the easily offended...

Fightyouforthatpie · 25/07/2023 18:47

Tattle is hosted in the US - there's your answer.
