To wonder why the same rules don’t apply to Tattle?

Whenever any crime or scandal is discussed on mumsnet threads are shut down for libel reasons or contempt of court. But that’s all that is discussed on Tattle. Does anyone know why they aren’t subject to the same rules?

On tattle people are vile about celebs on MN people are vile to eachother

Toomuchrubbishonnetflix · 13/07/2023 07:42

I like tattle - it’s less pious than here, where you get slated for having an opinion on some random celebrity’s ugly dress.

WeAreTheHeroes · 13/07/2023 07:43

Thank you both

InstantGratificationDarkPlaygroundOfMN · 13/07/2023 07:43

We had a benign tattle here, Sleb Twaddle (Summer of Tayto - Never Forget! Grin) but MN got rid of it (no idea whether it was something specific e.g. the Larry threads or just wanting to disown salacious gossip).
It certainly wasn't because it was never read. Maybe that thread used more moderation but I doubt that's why it got cut.

@DrSbaitso what a crock of shit.

Ages ago there was a woman on here who lost her daughter, it got picked up by Tattle and they completely and utterly ripped the piss out of her. THE most vile thing I’ve ever read in my life.

A woman on here had several threads detailing the serious illness and eventual passing of her adult daughter. It was very sad, but it wasn’t only on tattle people had doubts about it: quite a few posts on here expressed disbelief but were removed, so…

ShowOfHands · 13/07/2023 07:51

When somebody wanted to sue individual posters on MN, they were pretty brilliant. I and several others were targeted and I was v happy with the response from MNHQ.

But what do I know. I'm just a middle aged woman who doesn't know how I ended up here.

It’s always a good rule to discount the opinions of those who call other humans ‘sheep’

Agree. As soon as I hear the word “sheeple” I realise I’m going to be told a load of conspiracy theorist stuff!

Same. The people who accuse others of being sheep think they are more intelligent and better-informed. The opposite is usually true I find.

BringMeTea · 13/07/2023 08:04

I find the overuse of the word 'vile' tells me all I need to know about the majority of Tattle users. Creeping in here too but there seems to be an increasing crossover of users.

CornishGem1975 · 13/07/2023 08:07

Mumsnet can't risk losing its income, it's a commercial site. Also far more likely to get quoted in the media than Tattle.

On another note, everyone bangs on about how bad Tattle is and sure there are some awful threads but there are also some great chats and debates about things currently going on. It's not all the same.

Shitegeist · 13/07/2023 08:49

They do. Look at the Lucy letby threads - so much stuff about her personal life which isn’t covered in the court case. It’s such a large site now I do wonder why it hasn’t been shut down.

Shitegeist · 13/07/2023 08:50

Oof that was in response to someone saying it was just celebrity gossip, tried to quote and failed

Tattle is awful, usually about celebs/influencers/bloggers, MN can be awful about anyone.
I find usually you post on MN at your own risk because you never know when the other posters will pick apart something you said and go on and on until you leave the thread. Whereas Tattle (I don’t post on there and I am an infrequent visitor, so I may be wrong) doesn’t seem to create arguments or hatred amongst the posters, they all seem pretty united in directing their vitriol at people in the public eye.
Tattle also names famous faces, so they were talking about Schofield well over a year ago, they have mentioned many other celebs who supposedly have super injunctions out, David Jason gets discussed, who the heck knows, but those Tattle posters seem to have some insider knowledge 🤷🏻‍♀️

I had a look on Tattle once - it was incredibly bitchy & nasty. Lots of keyboard bullies who I bet wouldn’t dare say half the things they say online in real life. I also don’t think it is taken as seriously as MN is, maybe that’s why they get away with more?

7eleven · 13/07/2023 09:27

DrSbaitso · 13/07/2023 07:04

Tattle is like an inverse MN. Posters are vicious about public figures but extremely supportive and friendly among themselves. You'll see things about public figures that would never stand here, but you won't be called a cunt, a melt or a moral inferior by another user.

Exactly how I feel.

A lot of tattle is too much for me and I avoid it, but I’ve never been called names on there. I have many times on here, by people who disagree and think it’s ok to call me a twat. I feel safer on tattle.

Some of the threads do a good job of exposing instagrammers that don’t declare ads or claim to be raising money for charity, yet have a new Volvo the next month.

Whinge · 13/07/2023 09:27

The same could be said about MN.

LizBennet · 13/07/2023 09:30

Mumsnet is taken seriously 😬 Where? 😂

A Tattle member probably started this thread 😂

I hadn’t realised that Sleb Twaddle was gone!

Fond memories of ‘Peter Andre really loves his kids’

Kingsparkle · 13/07/2023 09:50

On MN people can be an asshole to you based on your opinions and how you express them and you can defend yourself and be an asshole right back.

On Tattle the posters are being an asshole to people not on or able to access their site and a huge amount of it is just personal insults based on someone’s appearance. I know people say oh but they come up with good points about celebs taking advantage of fans etc. I’m sure they do but it’s drowned out by insults on people’s appearance or slagging off their children or relationships.

Posters only feel safer on Tattle because they are part of the mob. Once they decide to put down the pitchfork is amazing to see how quickly the mods delete them. My favourite ever was a thread about Stacey Solomon where someone said oh but I liked her hair today or something and was told no, this is the thread for snark about Stacey Solomon, if you want to say something nice find a fan thread 🤯

TheChosenTwo · 13/07/2023 10:00

Oh my god I bloody love one thread on tattle, it cracks me up. Only one though; I’m not bothered about celebs. Never seen any fighting over there.

TokyoSushi · 13/07/2023 10:03

Tattle can be absolutely grim. But if you want to know pretty much anything about anything, they'll definitely know on there. For example the work & detail that's gone into their Lucy Letby threads is incredible. Whether it's right or wrong, Weill that's another matter.

StrawberryWater · 13/07/2023 10:06

I don’t mind Tattle. Or at least the threads I post in. I kind of stick to YouTube personalities and their absolutely appalling parenting choices (SacconeJoly’s, Inghams and Radfords etc). I generally find the place to be no worse than MN in terms of content and I’ve never had any issue with any of those posters over there (we’re always very supportive of each other when something personal is going on) whereas here. Yikes. Often on MN it’s a race to the bottom and a competition to see who can dog pile on the OP the fastest.
