Unexpected or unusual advantages of weight loss

crochetmonkey74 · 11/07/2023 19:14

I'm on a weight loss plan and have just got to the point where people are noticing. Today a lovely colleague who has lost 8 stone and kept it off said that she always had a rash under her boobs when she was bigger and psoriasis on her ankle that didn't ever go, and since she has been slimmer, these have gone. It led me to think of little things that bother me and if they will go. Anyone lost a lot of weight and noticed a change they didn't anticipate?

Shopping for clothes is a proper pleasure, not a heart stopping chore.

pickledandpuzzled · 11/07/2023 20:35

It's so much easier to get dressed when you aren't worrying about whether this top sufficiently disguises the bad fit of your trousers.
So much easier.

Strangely chubrub has stopped, despite having it before I put weight on.

Car parking spaces. I can use any of them, not just the ones on the end.

Does anyone find they get chatted up more?

You stop being invisible.

Also, a weird one...my knees feel weirdly skinny in bed and like there's not much covering the bone

Catipepo · 11/07/2023 21:03

@tunbridgeoutrage "Arseholes are nicer to you. Nice people are nice to you regardless of what you look like".

Oh 100% agree with you! But I do prefer my days when people are nicer to me.

crochetmonkey74 · 11/07/2023 21:05

My pattern is when I am in a relationship and happy, I lose weight and look my best, when I am unhappy and single I gain weight. So anytime I have been slim I've been loved up so haven't noticed being chatted up etc. I'm much more confident now (late 40s) so I'm hoping that if I look better with increased confidence, I can enjoy being chatted up. I know it's shallow!!

Flirted with more, yes.

But my boney arse gets sore now so...swings and roundabouts 😂

Omg yes! I can't sleep in the same position as I used to because it makes my knees hurt.

LadyBird1973 · 11/07/2023 21:12

Rings and anklet not feeling so tight, which is nice. I'm still in the process of losing and have a long way to go, but it's good being able to wear rings that I'd had to put away.

Also feeling excited about shopping for clothes again and rediscovering my own wardrobe is like getting new clothes for free!

crochetmonkey74 · 11/07/2023 21:14

I love the feeling of putting on clothes that were too tight and they now fit!

My little goals are:

Being able to kneel down and my bum to actual rest on my feet.

Having a bath and not having a bit of my tummy sticking up over the water line!

CallMeDiaz · 11/07/2023 21:19

Easily bending over to shave my legs!

Just...doing stuff again without spending the whole time thinking about how far I am. Going out for drinks, going to gigs, shopping with my daughters.

Life is more pleasurable now.

Ontheperiphery79 · 11/07/2023 21:19

I've lost 4.5 stone this year and my posture has definitely improved, as I'm feeling more confident within myself (4 stone weight increase meant my breasts became huge and I slouched more because I think, subconsciously, I was trying to hide them).

My rings fit again, my shoes fit better, I feel more energised; as I'm starting to get fitter (although progress is frustratingly slow, as I've got some long term health problems), I feel less irritable and unhappy.

I feel like I've become more fun to be around for my daughters and there has definitely been more laughter from me than there has been for a long time.

There have been many positive psychological and physical changes.

omg this. so nice to see and wear old favouritesagain,

Rogue1001MNer · 11/07/2023 21:22

Oh, and no anxiety about whether the seat belt on a plane/fairground/theme park is going to fit

CallMeDiaz · 11/07/2023 21:25

Ooh and my boobs haven't shrunk but the rest of me has so now they look awesome 😉

It's interesting that several people on this thread have suggested getting flirted with or chatted up more by men is one of the benefits of weight loss.

If you were to believe some on mumsnet, being chatted up by men is an intolerable nuisance!

Swirlingdiscontent · 11/07/2023 21:34

I was overweight and carried a lot of abdominal fat, I also had terrible digestive issues and very severe constipation due to my crap diet and I couldn’t get pregnant , had 2 hycosys 18 months apart and both times it showed blocked tubes 😞 I then lost 6.5 stone, went on strong laxatives and got pregnant ! I often wondered if the fat and the distended bowels were just squashing my tubes shut??? I have no proof of it but I do think there must be a reason !

This happened to me too. I am quite small of boob and expected them to shrink. They didn't. But because the rest of me shrank they seem bigger!

OlympicProcrastinator · 11/07/2023 21:35

I wasn’t even overweight so didn’t realise my stress incontinence was anything more than being in my forties with kids. But I had to lose weight going from top end of healthy weight to very low because I had osteoarthritis in my knees.

Well blow me down with a feather, I can jump, sneeze, run and laugh like I could in my 20’s and no stress incontinence. I can’t believe it could be cured as I wasn’t even overweight like I said. Really surprised.

I haven't had that experience, but wouldn't welcome it at all. I've very much enjoyed being invisible!

Swirlingdiscontent · 11/07/2023 21:39

Also I stopped snoring

Menopants · 11/07/2023 21:42

Save money not buying so much food

Well...I spent at least a decade fat and invisible so it feels sort of nice to me. Might mean I'm sad or insecure or whatever but it's nice to enjoy my looks at long last.

Flirting is fun, it lightens a day or an interaction, it's a tiny shot of adrenaline and positivity in an otherwise blah time of life.

Bring it on, I say!
