Unexpected or unusual advantages of weight loss

I'm on a weight loss plan and have just got to the point where people are noticing. Today a lovely colleague who has lost 8 stone and kept it off said that she always had a rash under her boobs when she was bigger and psoriasis on her ankle that didn't ever go, and since she has been slimmer, these have gone. It led me to think of little things that bother me and if they will go. Anyone lost a lot of weight and noticed a change they didn't anticipate?

Oooooo and my sleep apnea got so much better! Didn’t realise that I used to have it until it went. Every time I had a cold I was exhausted because I just couldn’t sleep, I still get colds now (thanks kids!) but they are shorter and really not a bother.

This is SUCH a great thread to read.. I'm truly loving buying and wearing new clothes that fit! Utterly frivolous and great fun. I love looking good and now I can.

And my body just moves easily - this is a real joy, whether when dancing or just walking down the street

Clothes, clothes, clothes! Also, my local st Christopher’s charity shop has made loads of money out of my outgrown garments! Fitting into a much smaller pair of jeans feels much nicer than any amount of chocolate, cake or red wine!

giving up alcohol to help lose weight has also made me better off, have no alcohol related headaches and makes me feel better about myself.

losing weight has given me confidence and helped me to stand up for myself. All in all win win.

Now that I'm getting used to my collarbones, I've discovered my hip bones. Turns out I have them, who knew! They are strangely fasc8nating.

loveyouradvice · 04/02/2025 10:06

I love hipbones @FatAgainItsLettuceTime ... and lying down and having a little dip between them where my tummy used to be!!

loveyouradvice · 04/02/2025 10:07

at least I think that's the hip bone? Or is it a different one?

I've been a regular poster to this thread and can't really share in real life but today I tried on a size 12 no stretch pair of trousers and bought them. I cried in the changing room. They are not even tight. 18 months ago I was a size 18 pretending I was a size 16. My entire wardrobe is too big for me but I'm scared to get rid as I'm worried I will re gain (again). I'm a bit fragile tonight lasses, and not much gets to me.

Get rid of it.

I have, it was wonderful. Anything decent I sold on Vinted and used my credit to buy new stuff there so it was like swapping my clothes.

In August I was wearing size 22, now I'm buying size 14. It's like a whole new world.

I wasn’t even overweight so didn’t realise my stress incontinence was anything more than being in my forties with kids. But I had to lose weight going from top end of healthy weight to very low because I had osteoarthritis in my knees.

Well blow me down with a feather, I can jump, sneeze, run and laugh like I could in my 20’s and no stress incontinence. I can’t believe it could be cured as I wasn’t even overweight like I said. Really surprised.

Well your experience has motivated me the most, yes I must lose weight, as I need 4 replacements hips and knees, but the one for me was how your stress incontinence disappeared, oh I am so pleased for you and hope the same works for me.

Mounjaro.

Still need to do all the basics - calorie count, low carb, high protein, loads of veggies, exercise, water... but it's just infinitely easier when you aren't thinking about food all the time and starving hungry.

Excellent! It’s like a whole new world opens up in terms of shopping options!

I have a bag with a strap and before I lost weight it literally came to above my hips, now it’s closer to my hips.

MumboJumbling · 17/02/2025 21:02

I'm finding this thread so inspiring! I am beginning a journey myself at the moment, but I do remember last time I lost two stones some years ago I was surprised when lying in the bath to be able to see beyond my stomach! i remember having so much more energy and feeling much more confident. I want to get there again...

DesparatePragmatist · 18/02/2025 15:45

Related to above post: cross-body bag straps no longer look like trying to cut a marshmallow with a cheesewire on me. They just look like a cross-body bag - smart and secure.

Ridingaroundonbuses · 18/08/2025 13:45

I think this is something that I have known but it seems to have become more obvious at the weekend for some reason but before the weight loss people would over take me when walking now I am over taking people when I go for a walk.

Another stone and I'll be willing to get registered with a doctor again (it's been about four years). Maybe even let them weigh me (that's been over twenty). Not having to be scared of going. No more row (and tears afterwards) when they try to push me into being weighed. (I've moved around a lot and the pricks always try to do it when you register). I don't think I'll even mind that much.

MetalliCat89 · 18/08/2025 23:30

I've only lost about 9lbs so far (8 weeks in and purposefully going slow as I've got lifetime habits that need changing for good). I feel less out of breath going uphill (although also gave up smoking 6 weeks ago too). My clothes fit better. My periods have become less heavy too and I feel better, less like dragging around a cumbersome carcass.
