Google a local wildlife rescue? Catch and find someone to take it to a vets, vets have a responsiblity to treat wildlife but they would be unlikely to come out and get it particularly after hours.

Ask on local Facebook pages

bibbityboppityboo · 10/07/2023 19:15

What sort of bird and whereabouts?

If there's a local vet number you can call to see? Our local vets treat wildlife.

CC4712 · 10/07/2023 19:15

RSPCA?

DogInATent · 10/07/2023 19:15

Either you help it or noone does. There's no emergency service for wild birds.

YouOk · 10/07/2023 19:16

I guess you don't want to hear about what I did when this happened to me on a rural back road?

There's often not much else you can do, really.

My husband dispatched an injured pheasant. It upset him, but it was the right thing to do.

Red wine, carrot and onions?

Cocacolathanks · 10/07/2023 19:25

It’s a normal pigeon

Wolfwood Wildlife Rescue can be called on 07931 220094 or have a website

parietal · 10/07/2023 19:26

Nobody is going to come out for a normal pigeon. Sorry.

partypompoms · 10/07/2023 19:29

Any vets will 'treat' it for free. Often this will mean it gets put to sleep.

CC4712 · 10/07/2023 19:29

If its suffering, I'd dispatch it quickly. I agree, a rescue won't come out for a wood or collared pigeon.

CushionBlanket · 10/07/2023 19:29

Or if you can pick him/her take them to any vets with out of hours and they will assist without charge.

CushionBlanket · 10/07/2023 19:29

Our local wildlife rescues do come out for any birds including Pigeons so I think this must depend on area.

Jabbitt · 10/07/2023 19:34

Just be careful @Cocacolathanks - I love very rurally and a big 4x4 smacked into a pheasant and left it twitching on the road. I picked it up and drove it to the vets - they were concerned about avian flu and I was advised to wash everything that came into contact with the bird. Although it perked up on our drive to the vets, they said it had irreversible brain damage as it had lost its reflex (they moved a finger to its face and it didn’t move / it’s eyes didn’t flicker). It was sad but they kindly put it to sleep 🙁it may have been best just to leave it for the foxes, but I couldn’t leave it to die slowly on the roadside.

Jabbitt · 10/07/2023 19:34
  • I LIVE rurally, big love rurally! Although I do love it!
Jabbitt · 10/07/2023 19:35

*ignore my bad spellings - my phone hates me this evening! I LIVE rurally, not love rurally.

Clymene · 10/07/2023 19:36

Break its neck. Honestly the kindest thing you can do

Where we live pigeons are classed as vermin. You would be advised to put the poor thing out of it's misery.

Red wine, carrot and onions?

I couldn't possibly comment ...

PatchworkElmer · 10/07/2023 21:11

Get it to a vet, it could well be PTS but that’s kinder than letting it suffer. I’ve taken several injured birds to our vet.

Not sure I could do that, isnt there a knack to it - pull and twist or something.... I struggled to get the child proof top off a bottle of calpol the other day! I just have visions of the poor thing flapping about suffering as I repeatedly tried and failed to do it.

But if I had a shovel........

Dunnoburt · 10/07/2023 21:15

In the style of Homer Simpson....mmmmmm pigeon 😋......seriously nothing you can really do except put out of misery and waste not....😇
