To be a bit concerned about someone about someone calling my daughter this

We were at a family party and someone that we don’t know very well (but seems was quite friendly and nice) called my daughter a ‘saucepot’. I didn’t think much of it at the time but I googled it later and found out it was a phrase to describe someone being sexy. He’ll be at another event in a couple of weeks..AIBU to find it a bit weird and want to keep more of a distance?

How old is your daughter?

Fashionista22 · 08/07/2023 20:37

She’s 2 x

I heard that term used by someone to simply mean mixed heritage. Nothing to do with sexiness.

kateclarke · 08/07/2023 20:39

Creepy and weird. Hiding in plain sight. Keep a close eye on your dd.

bibbityboppityboo · 08/07/2023 20:39

Oh I didn't realise it meant sexy - I've sort of heard it used to mean sassy? Weird if it means sexy to use it regarding a 2 year old!

Vile Envy

Its an odd one because if she was a tween or young teen I would think it would be said in the way you have written about it, being sexy and it would be really creepy

But very little children get called saucepots because they're cheeky, sassy, naughty, confident.

If you dont know him well its difficult to know what was in his head I suppose.

wutheringkites · 08/07/2023 20:39

That is pretty weird. How old was the man?

Tribblesarelovely · 08/07/2023 20:39

You are BU. It’s an expression that used to be common. Just means cheeky little thing. Bloody hell, you can’t say anything now without someone misinterpreting it.

EscapeRoomToTheSun · 08/07/2023 20:39

Yh like minx or something there is a flirtatious female undertone. You wouldn't say it about a little boy would you!

That would make me super uncomfortable if it were my little one.

Greenfree · 08/07/2023 20:39

That's concerning then of he meant it in the 'sexy' way. Would he actually have said that out loud about a 2 year old! Could it be about heritage? I've never heard the term before

CaptainMyCaptain · 08/07/2023 20:40

I've always heard it as meaning 'cheeky' but not in a bad way. An answer for everything. I've not heard it used to mean sexy or mixed heritage.

UpaladderwatchingTV · 08/07/2023 20:40

Where I grew up, it meant kind of cheeky, so to describe a 2 year old as cheeky, wouldn't necessarily seem weird in that context to me.

That makes no sense whatsoever. Do you mean melting pot?

Ive said it myself to people, adults and children meaning sassy.

justheretoread111 · 08/07/2023 20:41

Did he mean ‘sass pot’? Have heard that before to mean cheeky / funny attitude.

IfYouDontAsk · 08/07/2023 20:41

🤮🤮🚩🚩🚩 Avoid that man like the plague.

Greenfree · 08/07/2023 20:41

Hopefully he meant cheeky then

Theraffarian · 08/07/2023 20:41

A term my grandmother would have used in her 80s to mean cheeky when being used to describe a toddler . Old fashioned term , was it an older person who said it ?

riotlady · 08/07/2023 20:42

Ugh it’s definitely icky (like calling little boys and girls who are friends “boyfriend and girlfriend”) but I don’t think it means he literally thinks your daughter is sexy. It’s just the gross way some people talk

wutheringkites · 08/07/2023 20:42

I've only ever heard it in context of 'sexy', and generally a comment made by a man about a younger woman. Agree it sits alongside 'minx' and 'flirt'.

Interesting to hear that it has different meanings for others.

Maybe he didn't know it meant sexy. I always thought it meant being a bit cheeky.

Yes, because ‘saucy’ was once synonymous with ‘cheeky’.

Bloody hell, no wonder some men are scared to even look at children these days 😂

Babsexxx · 08/07/2023 20:44

This. My dd is 2 and when she’s playing up I quite often call her “minxy/little minx!” It’s in no way sexual at all….Jesus christtt no one can say anything without being a branded a pedo.

Well it still is in my head, if someone says something tongue in cheek/sarcastic or whatever I might say 'oi you bloody saucepot'

But then clearly according to this thread Im icky, creepy, gross etc etc. And put some red flags next to my name!!!
