When would you pay?

I’ve booked tickets for a concert for 8 people.

They are on my credit card so I said no rush to pay as it’s not due until the end of the month (in hindsight I shouldn’t have said this)

6 people paid straight away (as I would have done)

The last hasn’t and I know they won’t until the end of the month.

When would you pay (no one is short of money) - it’s more the hassle of having to check everyone has paid.

YANBU - just pay straight away so the person who booked doesn’t have to keep checking when everyone has paid

YABU - pay at the last minute

I’m the organiser of my group of friends, the one who books tickets, restaurants, flights etc. I booked gig tickets last week for a gig that was only announced a few days before the tickets went on sale. I always book everything on my credit card, no one has paid yet, they’ll all pay on their next pay day - there hasn’t even been any discussion about this, this is just generally how it works in my group of friends especially as the tickets couldn’t exactly be planned due to when the gig was announced, and the cost of those tickets isn’t going to be on my bill before they all get paid

God no, I’ve literally never heard of a banking app! You are amazing! 🤔🤔🤔

The point is, however you monitor it, until everyone has paid, you need to check some how.

To be fair you are coming across as though you've never heard of a simple banking app.

Glancing at your phone when you get a 'paid in notification' really isn't as labour intensive as you appear to be making out.

Nope!

I'm honestly not worried about the money - I could sell this ticket several times over

It’s the principle

You say no rush, and that you're honestly not bothered about the money
Why then can you say in the next breath that you judge people enough to make a thread on it on here as they haven't paid up, even if you told them they didn't have to pay up yet?!
Make your mind up.
Either you want the money now or at the end of the month.

This thread is bizarre 😂 an option was
given to pay at the end of the month which one person seems to be taking. You say you don’t need money immediately.

what’s the issue?

Exactly!! 😁

How are you saying ‘it’s the principle’ when you clearly said no rush?

You’re bitching about a friend for taking an option YOU gave?

uncomfortablydumb53 · 08/07/2023 23:59

I would pay immediately because I hate owing money but as you said no rush I guess they don't think like that
You could send a personal( not group) message to remind them of the payment date

pizzaHeart · 09/07/2023 00:19

In general I prefer to pay straight away. However a few times I could overspend on my credit card depending when my refunds would come back. So in these cases I would delay other payments if possible. You said that the end of the month was ok so I would believe you and pay you at the end of the month if I was at risk of overspending. I could afford overspending I just wouldn’t want to if possible.
I wouldn’t think twice about your offer as I often did the same : I told my friend that she could give me money for her tickets at our next meeting in a month time. I always meant it so I would assume that you were the same.

springtome · 09/07/2023 08:43

If I had the money then I would pay right away. Or would check if I could wait until pay day. If someone told me no rush as on credit card bill I would probably pay on payday.

PeloMom · 09/07/2023 09:01

I’d pay straight away but also if I were the one paying I’d say money to be sent within 24 hrs. Life gets busy and things get forgotten. I won’t like to do the mental labor on chasing on someone and keep on checking if they paid or not

Wheredoistart78 · 09/07/2023 09:18

Sounds like you're treating your friends as lab rats.

The one person that hasn't paid hasn't done anything wrong.

YABU to believe the poll on the internet by a bunch of strangers

Babsexxx · 09/07/2023 09:36

You literally said “no rush it’s not due until the end of the month!” LOL.

Yea 100% this. And a poll on mumsnet, hahaha. Hardly representative of real life

SilverTotoro · 09/07/2023 10:13

Totally bemused by this thread. I often book tickets for a group of us and ask for the money before the event. If I needed it before then I’d ask for it by x date. None of my friends are CFs and I’ve always got the money for anything I’ve booked. It’s not exactly a huge admin task to check before the event everyone has paid.

Createausername1970 · 09/07/2023 10:22

I do theatre trips with two different friends. One I pay straight away, or I book and she pays me straightaway.

The other friend prefers to book as she has accessibility needs, and prefers me to settle up in cash on the day.

But for your purposes, I fall into the pay straight away camp.

Tangled123 · 09/07/2023 10:52

Butterflyfluff · 08/07/2023 20:59

I didn’t say my credit card bill was the end of the month until I’d booked, after everyone saying they wanted a ticket.

What would you have done if I’d had to pay the bill before your pay day?

I get paid weekly and have credit cards of my own, so I can’t think of any scenario you would 1) get a bill with this on it and 2) have to pay it in between my pay days.
Assuming you didn’t pay by credit card and had actually said you wanted paid right away, I would juggle money around and pay accordingly.

zingally · 09/07/2023 11:35

Personally, I would pay straight away, just so I could mentally tick "paying back OP" off my to-do list.

But to be fair, you did say no rush. So I guess lesson learnt.

I’m not telling anyone they’re in the minority - the vote has done that - if you’d leave it as long as possible to pay you’re in the minority

I can't see the voting figures (are they switched on?) but it's clear there are views on both sides. My point is you're dismissing anyone on the opposite side to you. Ive said id pay straight away but I think you're being unreasonable.

Butterflyfluff · 09/07/2023 19:51

It’s 83% YANBU v 17% YABU

Which ironically is pretty much 6 out of 7

People pleaser alert - you said no rush but what you actually meant to say was ‘please transfer the cash now’

greyhairnomore · 09/07/2023 23:59

I always pay anything like this immediately it's booked.
