Men’s Asylum seeker accommodation next to school

chibcha · 07/07/2023 22:36

I feel quite ashamed by how I feel but want to know if it warranted.

There has been an announcement that a 500 men’s asylum seeker accommodation is going ahead against councils decision (it was overruled on a national scale). This is Stafford btw

It will be butted up to (no gap) to my DCs school and opposite a nursery. It’s not because they are asylum seekers that concerns me. It’s the fact it’a 500 men unit, with many with no known history / criminal records/ mental state.

I work over an hour away and currently my daughter who is 12 walks to the bus etc, she also does after school clubs then walks home alone. Most parents at the school are talking about moving their kids but in reality and logistically that’s not going to happen.

I genuinely feel scared for her safety. AIBU?
Its the location of it that’s wrong and the fact the council stated issues and concerns so refused it but got overruled by the government…

Girls will be groomed and raped. I know this for a fact.

CampsieGlamper · 08/07/2023 14:30

Given that a large number of asylum seekers are coming from countries whose attitudes to women and to other groups who are accepted and are celebrated for being diverse, are they at any point given advice on British tolerance, acceptance and broadmindedness, and liberal attitudes?

You have a very naive view

These idiots would be up in arms if the migrants were housed in their neighbourhood.

Let's not forget Germany nye

We know the asylum seekers are allocated £40 a week to survive on, and we all know that’s a pittance. We all know that none of us would hesitate for a minute to shoplift if necessary to feed ourselves. Why any of this is coming as a shock I don’t know.

Has anybody taken them to one side and explained in their own language that we don’t sleep with 12-year-olds here ?

You have Google translate why don't you do it? Let us know how you get on!

@JazbayGrapes Those who have lost their jobs in the hotels are likely to be the social housing tenants that keep being used in the arguments on this thread.

TomorrowToday · 08/07/2023 14:41

@3BSHKATS pittance? They get feed and a roof over their head.... and £40 a week to spend away:.... they are living it large ffs.

TomorrowToday · 08/07/2023 14:41

All legal fees and all they need to do is throw away their documents and they won't be removed from the country.

Men who don't work and are of fighting age will rape women.

LuvSmallDogs · 08/07/2023 14:44

@JenniferBooth Unless the poor buggers were living in staff accommodation. Workers in that position get given notice on their job AND home at the same time.

JenniferBooth · 08/07/2023 14:47

@LuvSmallDogs thats even worse, And they have no voice certainly not in the MSM

They get housing and £45 a week for everything they might need, including food.

If their accommodation provides food then they only get £9.50.

How is that not a pittance?

AngryGreasedSantaCatcus · 08/07/2023 14:50
  • Extra money for mothers and young children You’ll get extra money to buy healthy food if you’re pregnant or a mother of a child under 3. The amount you get will depend on your situation. Your situation Extra payment per week Pregnant mother £3 Baby under 1 year old £5 Child aged 1 to 3 £

SoNotRainbowRhythms · 08/07/2023 14:57

OP I am 100 percent sympathetic to asylum seekers but I don't think herding such a large amount of men in one place is fair on anyone.e. least of all them.

I have 0 confidence they will be treated well. There was a much smaller facility close to me about 30 people some solo some families and no issues to the community but the conditions were appalling and they were eventually shut down.

Bromptotoo · 08/07/2023 14:57

TheLifeofMe · 08/07/2023 14:15

I'm amazed at some comments. I would not want 500 immigrant men next door to my daughters school. I have no issue for genuine immigrants fleeing war or persecution and coming to the U.K. But these men have left behind their families and loved ones to come here so how bad can it be. They are here for economic privileges which they know they will get.

Our local town has hundreds of male immigrants hanging around trying to chat up school girls. There man are in their late 20s. It's sick and it's weird. So I would be aghast at this happening.

We know why so many are young men and it's got nothing to do with "economic privileges". Depending on where they've come from and their backstory they may, or may not, get refugee status.

As long as we've been on this rock going round the sun we've expected men to do the dangerous stuff. That might be fighting wars, scouting for dangerous animals or whatever. It's men who get conscripted, officially or otherwise, for national armies or the local freedom fighters in failed states like Libya.

My the time they get to France many will have undertaken journeys across the Sahara and the Med; after that a few hours in RIB is probably easy. Far more die in both those places than in the Channel.

If they get refugee status then women and kids, probably in massively overcrowded camps in Syria or wherever, can join them.

It's really not difficult to grasp.

If the UK government would get it's finger out and process their Asylum cases we wouldn't need 500 bed hostels to accommodate them. How many are, in decision making terms 'low hanging fruit'?. Either they're from Afghanistan, Syria, Sudan or any number of failed states or those like Iran etc that are egregious offenders against the most basic of human rights.

At the other end of the scale those from Albania, unless they're from a persecuted minority, can be sent back lickety split. As soon as there's enough to fill a plane to Tirana then off they go. Rights of Appeal against refusal should be fast tracked so that there's no prospect of cases with no prospect of success drawing the process out.

Jobseekers allowance for those people who have lost their hotel jobs is £9.60 per day (£67.20 per week) after years of paying tax.

chibcha · 07/07/2023 23:07

The council actually refused it. The government overruled the wishes in favour for Serco (who get the government contracts).

Can I state, I am in noway against anyone claiming asylum, which is perfectly legal and they are fully initialled to.

I just feel unable to protect my child safely with 500 unknown men placed next door. It’s a matter of statistics.

How big is the majority of Stafford’s Tory MP, I wonder. Bet she’s worried.

How much money do you want them get? They are literally living for free with no responsibility.

The mind boggles.

It’s not quite as simple as the government getting its finger out. Any rejected claim can result in multiple legal challenges, which can take years to resolve. Hard to see how that changes, at least while the ECHR is in play.

Oh and by the way, if you want assistance paying lawyers - if you lose your job, or split from your partner, or someone trashed your reputation - you can whistle for it. You’ve got no chance.

Is there something stopping you from donating to top up to provide luxuries for asylum seekers? Or is it just the daily ritual of virtue signalling. Yes, thought so.
