I have started listening to podcasts when in the car/tube/train. I enjoy documentaries about unsolved murders, about business stories e.g. 'the making of...' or 'how Home Depot works', but also Ted Talks, stuff about skincare, and biographies.

I would love to hear any recommendations you have that fit the above. ANd if they don't but you absolutely love a podcast, please share that too. Thanks!

Bad People is my favourite!

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 06/07/2023 11:58

Controversial to some but I listened to my first ever podcast recently, The Witch Trials of Jk Rowling on Spotify

It was excellent and actually I'm glad you started this thread as I really enjoyed listening instead of reading for a change so am looking for a few for my holiday in a few weeks.

Talipesmum · 06/07/2023 11:59

I don’t listen to any that fit your bill sorry! But I absolutely love:

Adrift podcast (Geoff Lloyd and Annabel Port). For the socially awkward.

Myths and Legends podcasts (Jason and Carissa weiser) plus their Fictional podcast. Retelling of stories.

bonfirebash · 06/07/2023 12:00

The double cleanse is skincare/makeup and I really enjoy it

jc12689 · 06/07/2023 12:00

Old now. But we recently listened to the Ricky Gervais show on xfm with Karl Pilkinton. Made a long drive down to the south of France go a lot quicker

Shoxfordian · 06/07/2023 12:03

Diary of a CEO is really good; there’s lots of interesting guests and it can be quite emotional chat as well.

Can you keep a secret is a guardian podcast about a guy who cyber stalked women, it’s quite interesting as well.

BBC sounds does some good ones about particular cases

Whaleandsnail6 · 06/07/2023 12:07

I like tortoise media podcasts, particularly sweet bobby about a catfishing.

Also love crime junkie which is a different true crime story every episode.

notacooldad · 06/07/2023 12:08

Have a look at the podcast threads in talk.

LisaVanderpump1 · 06/07/2023 12:09

For true crime, I like Crime Junkie and My Favorite Murder. Park Predators has quick, easy listens too.

How I Built This has some interesting episodes about how businesses got started.

I second The Witch Trials of JK Rowling - v. interesting listen.

I've just started The Retrievals, although this is about fertility treatment and discusses medical trauma, so not necessarily for everyone.

It doesn't fall into any of the categories you mentioned, but a podcast that genuinely makes me laugh out loud is Sentimental Garbage. It's a female host and female guests discussing "low culture" that they love.

You're Wrong About has some good episodes too, but I do find the host(s) a bit annoying. The episode about Stepford Wives was super interesting.

DPotter · 06/07/2023 12:10

Rabbit hole detectives with Charles Spencer (surprisingly interesting) and Richard Coles plus a woman whose name escapes me

Uncanny with Danny Robins - fascinating but not for dark evenings!

Dead to me - history with a comedic twist

Thebigblueballoon · 06/07/2023 12:11

If you like mysteries/unsolved mysteries and true crime, you’ll love the Mr Ballen podcasts. He also creates great videos on YouTube.

JorisBonson · 06/07/2023 12:12

My favourite at the mo is Kathy Burke's Where There's a Will There's a Wake. I've had to stop listening on the train because it makes me laugh so much.

BashfulClam · 06/07/2023 12:19

Bailey Sarian dark history

Donna1001 · 06/07/2023 12:40

Another vote for Bad People on BBC Sounds

‘one minute remaining’ on Apple is excellent. Host talks to inmates about their crimes. Mostly they claim to be innocent, but he asks really good questions, & each interviewee gets a few episodes.

I listen to a lot of podcasts, swapping between them every few days, but these are by far my favourites.

MrsHsGirl · 06/07/2023 12:44

Not what you have asked for but Parenting Hell with Rob Beckett and Josh Widdecombe is my absolute favourite

lljkk · 06/07/2023 12:54

BBC,. the Bottomline, is all about businesses and commerce.

Patented by Dallas Campbell, about various inventions from Tupperware to Disney theme parks to ejector seats etc., and Cautionary Tales by Tim Harford are two of my favourites.

My mum says my memoir is a lie - trigger warning as it refers to child SA
My therapist ghosted me

AuntieJoyce · 06/07/2023 13:03

Dark histories has lots of juicy Victorian murders.

in more recent cases, catching Melanies killer was excellent. And some great interview footage, with the really impressive female detective on the case.

chunkychunks · 06/07/2023 13:03

Bang on it - Laura smyth and Michelle de Swarte is fantastic and laugh out loud funny. I binged it

SatelliteStomper · 06/07/2023 13:04

Another vote for Uncanny - love it and have recommended it to lots of people who've also loved it!

userxx · 06/07/2023 13:05

Scamanada is really good. Sweet Bobby, Girl Taken, Bible John, The Teachers Pet, I'm not a Monster, People who Knew me, just a few of the ones I've enjoyed.

Redissuereader · 06/07/2023 13:11

Old but good, Serial - one of the original true crime podcasts
Bunga Bunga is so good - made me start listening to podcasts
The Thing About Pam
Over My Dead Body
The Pit
Gangster
The Missing Cryptoqueen
Fairy Meadow
I'm currently listening to The Kidnapping of Stephanie Slater

usernother · 06/07/2023 13:21

I've just listened to scamanda and enjoyed it even though it was a bit repetitive at times. My current absolute favourite is the Trial of Lucy Letby.
