I have started listening to podcasts when in the car/tube/train. I enjoy documentaries about unsolved murders, about business stories e.g. 'the making of...' or 'how Home Depot works', but also Ted Talks, stuff about skincare, and biographies.

I would love to hear any recommendations you have that fit the above. ANd if they don't but you absolutely love a podcast, please share that too. Thanks!

You need to look on the BBC sounds app. They have loads. I’m Not a Monster (both seasons), Things Fell
Apart, The Lazarus Heist and Gangster are ones I’ve listened to recently. The Battasea Poltergeist & Uncanny.

I’ve also discovered a BBC series called Witness History. There are loads of episodes all about 9 minutes long each about a historical event. I’ve found it really interesting.

Yorkshiredolls · 06/07/2023 19:19

I love at the moment:

the infinite monkey cage- science/comedy ft. Prof Brian Cox

youre dead to me- history/comedy

Evil Genius- comedy on famous figures in history by Russel Kane

Lady killers- Lucy Worsley- crime/history

the Trial of lucy Letby- absolutely fascinating

Telling everybody everything- I hardly agree with everything she says in her advice sections but I do enjoy listening to her perspective on things and she mostly gives good advice. I bet shes a MNetter..

James Camerons titanic scene by scene- I am actually really enjoying this at the moment! But not to everyones taste or interest

KeyWorker · 06/07/2023 19:19

Just realised that none of my suggestions actually fit your bill but they are defiantly worth listening to!

Yorkshiredolls · 06/07/2023 19:19

Im not a monster: the Shamima Begum story was gripping!

SmokyForTheWin · 06/07/2023 19:22

I'm enjoying Sliced Bread on BBC sounds - it examines marketing hype for various objects, sees if there is any real science behind it. They've done painkillers, alcohol free beer, shampoo....

NoraLuka · 06/07/2023 19:26

Another vote for You’re dead to me, even when the topic sounds dull at first it always turns out to be really interesting!

A couple of posters have given podcasts in other languages, in French La Story from Les échos is informative about current affairs and easy to listen to. The presenter gets on my nerves sometimes but he’s mostly ok.

Marked Safe - about disasters but done in a sensitive yet light hearted and sometimes funny way

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 06/07/2023 19:40

Redhanded is my absolute favourite. Two British women who have great chemistry. They talk about a wide variety of true crime and while they can be very lighthearted it tends to be when they go off on a wee tangent so they’re never flippant about the actual cases. They’ve done more international cases than a lot of the American true crime podcasts which I tend to find are very US centric.

Crime Junkie is a good one too. One of the women from that Ashley has a hand in another podcast called The Deck which is about unsolved crimes that might tick your requirement although I’ve not listened to it myself.

The Therapy Crouch is a good laugh. Peter Crouch and Abbie Clancy.

Spotify, Apple, Amazon are all good plus BBC Sounds.

Most you can get for free and some offer early access for members if you pay a monthly fee.

I love Real by Naomi Channel - she has a genuine authentic delivery and reports with empathy. She also has longer series deep diving into other incidents called 'Her name was Claudia Lawrence' etc. Well worth a listen. I also love British Scandal - lots of different series of them, and not a duff one amongst them. Plus Uncanny is great too. Have also enjoyed lots of the BBC series into various things - worth a travel through their podcasts.

How to Fail - almost biography but basically people talking about the three most significant failures in their life. The interviewer is great.

Allhailkingcharlie · 06/07/2023 21:17

I love the therapy crouch. Abbey Clancy and peter crouch! It's fab

Mnts · 06/07/2023 21:21

This one is quite sweet. Not one of your categories but just ordinary people sharing their life experiences. It's aim is to bring people together and make us see we have more in common that that which divides us. Quite timely. Every Street Has Stories

Morbid is my favourite true crime podcast.
Lore is good too but a little more myths and legends but does also cover some unusual cases
