Putting heating on in July?!

AlphaB3tty · 04/07/2023 19:14

DH isn't feeling well and it's been raining all day. AIBU to not put the heating on when he has asked?

I mean… if it’s cold and you can afford it, I would.

EightyfirstCat · 04/07/2023 19:16

Have you got a heated throw? Or a hot water bottle?

SummaLuvin · 04/07/2023 19:16

your husband is ill and you won't do something to hep his comfort, because its July?

LadyWithLapdog · 04/07/2023 19:18

I’m in a jumper and thick socks (I have other clothes on as well) and I did consider putting on the heating. I put on a wide headband covering my ears to keep them warm.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/07/2023 19:18

Personally I'd make a hot water bottle and give him an extra blanket.

If it goes on, then I end up roasting. I won't be allowed to put a fan on or turn the radiator down in case he gets cold!

This is a better idea thanks

I’ve just put mine on as it was well below where the thermostat is set too, the washing hasn’t dried from yesterday and I’ve got a wet coat, shoes, bag and shorts to dry from the walk home tonight.

then you should have said this in your OP rather than imply the issue is the month, and seem rather arbitrary. As others have said in this case use blankets, hot water bottles, and hot drinks.

Though as an aside for me part of being a partner is understanding that someone else's needs trumps your own at times. In the case where my DH is ill, I try and ensure he is comfortable, he does the same for me.

AlphaB3tty · 04/07/2023 19:24

I'm constantly putting his needs before my own cos he is always ill from various things. My life goes on hold.

It's 12 degrees fgs, what does the name of the month have to do with anything?!

feellikeanalien · 04/07/2023 19:26

I've just lit the fire because DD is cold. It's wet and miserable here.

JMSA · 04/07/2023 19:30

I've got my Oodie on this evening. The branded, really thick one. It's cold where I am in Scotland. Really wet too. The kids have been asking for the heating on in the mornings, while they're getting ready for school!

I also live in the SE and it's been raining and dull here all day.

I saw several people in coats when I was out walking the dog - I had a jacket on - I don't know which part of the SE you're in but where I am it's definitely not T-shirt weather.

I was speaking to someone today who told me they've been putting their heating on in the evening

how on earth do you know a) where OP is located and b) what the temperature is like there?
The fact it might be 12degrees WHERE YOU ARE is completely irrelevant to this thread and the rest of the world....

Fair enough but don't think it's an unreasonable assumption that's they are in bloody freezing, wet UK right now!

TiredandLate · 04/07/2023 20:05

I'm sat in a hoodie and coat, I'm tempted!! I've started learning Spanish with a serious view to leaving this freezing bastard country as soon as dd flies the nest.

TheIsleOfTheLost · 04/07/2023 20:06

I couldn't bring myself to put the heating on in July if it was snowing outside! I was raised in a poorly insulated house where I was always freezing in winter and often cold in summer, so vowed I would do what I wanted when I left home. But it turns out that once I was paying the bills myself, I turned into my mother after all.

Winnerturkeydinner · 04/07/2023 20:08

This time last year we everyone was moaning about the heat. 🤣

Your husband has to get permission to put the heating on?!

It's not that he asked, it's the way he said it and had a go at me with attitude in his voice.

Sorry op - your husband sounds like a git, if he’s cold he could have put a jumper on 🤷‍♀️

To be fair tho where I am it’s cold and has been raining all day I have been frozen however I’ve put a jumper, thick socks and my fake oodie on 😂 I have debated on lighting a fire tonight but have snuggled up under my electric throw thingy
