Upgrading seat on a flight

Currently have a long haul flight booked with DH and DD5. Due to some restriction in premium economy, one of us had to downgrade our flights and DH and I did rock, paper scissors and he lost.
Just popped on to the delta app to sort something out for another flight, and saw that I can upgrade this long haul (overnight) flight to Delta one for £300 per person. Getting a flat bed and getting DD a good night sleep would be amazing as we have a full day travelling when we get to the other side (a 4 hour train journey, then drive etc)

I have mentioned it to DH and he is not keen for us to upgrade.

I totally get it, I really do, but I still want to do the upgrade to ensure that DD gets a good night sleep (and let's be honest, me too!).

AIBU to consider upgrading anyway? We're lucky enough that money isn't an issue.

Why are you asking strangers? You know whether you can afford it. If you need your husband’s permission to spend money, that’s something no one here can help with. It’s not a situation I would ever find myself in as that would be a deal-breaker for me.

As for the flights, we only ever fly business or first class so I would not be upgrading, I’d already be in Delta One. I wouldn’t even consider anything else. But you’re not me.

We do carbon offset our flights so that would also be an additional cost. I don’t know how much that will be

If money isn't an issue I absolutely would. A well rested child (and parent) is worth the money I'd say. What's husband's reason for not wanting to upgrade if it's not money?

@BreviloquentBastard he doesn’t want to fly economy! I think he isn’t happy he lost rock paper scissors to being with… that, coupled with DD being a good flyer I’m sure he thinks I’m doing it for my own gain (which I am!)

You will leave two PE seats empty when you upgrade…why not call Delta, ask them to hold one of your PE seats and upgrade on the app at the same time or have them do it. I have done this before, it is possible, it is a pain for the agent to do and sometimes you do loose as someone quickly snaps up the PE seats but at least try.

Is a hundred percent upgrade - that's not a lot of money for an upgrade if you can afford it and only you will know that.

Maybe he's annoyed he is in ecomy while you two will be in business class. I would be too!

Haha this is risky because OP could then lose the second rock paper scissors!

OP, It seems unfair to me that you want to go into Business whilst DP remains in Economy. If money really isn’t the issue, then everyone should be upgraded to at least Premium economy.

call up Delta. Try to upgrade one person to First Class (from economy) and then you'll have one seat in First (for you) and two in PE (for DH & child).

that should keep everyone happy.

Do you want to leave him in economy and upgrade you and DC to Delta One? If so, yabu upgrade all of you!

At least ring and ask them to upgrade him to your PE seat while you upgrade yourself to business (although money no object I can't see why you wouldn't just pay for all of you to have the comfort of a flat bed)

Are you upgrading you and dd to business and leaving dh in economy?

Surely you upgrade him into Premium at the same time? Or upgrade him and daughter into first class and you stay in Premium and you swap between the adults as needed?

Why did you not all book Delta One in the first place, if money is no issue?
Surely the only reason not to, is money? Nobody actually prefers less space and sitting up all night in a narrow chair?

Thanks all. To clarify he was in premium but due to another factor (flying with a dog) on this flight a dog can only fly in economy.
So someone needs to fly with the dog in economy. If we didn’t have a dog we would upgrade everyone (and DH currently had the difference between economy and premium ticket as a refund from delta)
The flights is 7k for delta one at the moment and was like 5k when we fought the tickets. Premium was much cheaper and now it’s only £300 to upgrade.
the ideal would be upgrade everyone to delta one but flying with the dog in the cabin is the priority.
