Upgrading seat on a flight

Currently have a long haul flight booked with DH and DD5. Due to some restriction in premium economy, one of us had to downgrade our flights and DH and I did rock, paper scissors and he lost.
Just popped on to the delta app to sort something out for another flight, and saw that I can upgrade this long haul (overnight) flight to Delta one for £300 per person. Getting a flat bed and getting DD a good night sleep would be amazing as we have a full day travelling when we get to the other side (a 4 hour train journey, then drive etc)

I have mentioned it to DH and he is not keen for us to upgrade.

I totally get it, I really do, but I still want to do the upgrade to ensure that DD gets a good night sleep (and let's be honest, me too!).

AIBU to consider upgrading anyway? We're lucky enough that money isn't an issue.

Urgh I hate flying and dogs would absolutely hate to be next to a dog for 9 hours horrible (misses point!)

No worries @Thistooshallpsss - I'll swap seats with you.

I can think of nothing nicer than 9 hours next to a pooch Grin

Wow - I didn't know dogs could fly in the cabin. Whose dog is it - I mean, we had a family dog but it was really DH's, so he would have been the one sitting with it. Although I think we'd struggle to fit a lab under the seat! Grin

I was on London to NYC a few years ago and due to BA needing to move some planes around, it was a very rare half-full flight. We were in two seats on the left of the plane and with the permission of the FA I moved to the lefthand aisle seat in the middle row. We were very near the front of the plane in some sort of "comfort class" between economy and first.

Before takeoff I man sat in the far right seat of the middle set, and I did a double take - a very large black dog was crawling into the foot area. The youngish man put down a pillow for the dog's head and the dog laid down.

Nary a peep out of it for eight hours. A few times the man stroked the dog and gave it was. He himself only drank a couple of bottles of water and declined meal service and any other beverage. I got the sense he was some sort of law man. On disembarkation the dog waited patiently but you could tell it needed to relieve itself. I myself was relieved when I saw the man finally reach an outside door.

I doubt most passengers more than a row away even knew a dog was aboard.

With BA that would have had to have been had to have been a service ( as in assistance) dog, always amazingly well behaved, as you describe:

Booooo. It’s back at £3.5k per upgrade now. Definitely isn’t going to happen at that price.

I guess this wasn’t true then. 😉

My dh got upgraded for free today, going on a 24hr flight. You can always ask.

espoleta · 04/07/2023 16:41

Ha ha @notsofamous ifs about how much you’re willing to spend on something. I don’t think 7k is worth it 🤷‍♀️

If money isn't an issue why are you even asking? Even if it was an issue, £300 for lie flat is well worth the money.

espoleta · 04/07/2023 17:03

I take it you haven’t rtwt @AbraKedavra ?

I agree with you, as nice as it is it’s difficult to justify (unless work pays for it). Especially if you are not going to drink all the lovely champagne back in the bar..

@notsofamous totally!

I miss work trips (sigh!)

I miss sometimes going on my dh’s work trips..they were great! 😂 But no, there is a limit even when the budget isn’t set in stone.
