Do the people on here lie about their size?

Anytime I am in AIBU everyone seems to be a size 12 and under. They exercise, don't drink and eat a very healthy diet. I have been looking at the Style & Beauty section. The vast majority of posters are plus size. Am I missing something?

This is the Internet. People lie about everything.

UndercoverCop · 02/07/2023 21:21

I've been an 8-10, an 18+ and I'm now back to a 12/14 bottom in some brands. Been on MN throughout.
I guess it depends on the thread, who's more likely to comment

Hoppinggreen · 02/07/2023 21:22

I’m a size 16
This site is one of the few places I don’t lie about it

BeverlyHa · 02/07/2023 21:22

it is very easy to slim down once you just stop the bread and cake.

BogTrollAtLarge · 02/07/2023 21:23

Im a big fat fatty!

Maybe fat people don’t like to talk about their size in aibu (unless it to ask for diet advice), whereas S&B is a bit more friendly?

Oh my god - why has no one ever thought of this?! Revolutionary.

Perhaps in S&B people who are asking for opinions / help / ideas for outfits might be unable to fit into the 'straight' sizes often advertised?

MaryJean87 · 02/07/2023 21:27

I'm about a 12 but at the start of the year was a 16. I still wear a 14 top due to my boob size.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 02/07/2023 21:28

On here if you are anything over a size 12, you have control issues, body issues, insecurities, laziness, hate yourself, greedy, ill, or any other negative stereotype going.

I've spent most of my adult life being painfully underweight due to being over worked and not taking care of myself. Now I'm a size 14 and I'm enjoying eating what I want and drinking what I want. I'm not killing myself at the gym anymore, and just enjoying myself for a while.

Dacadactyl · 02/07/2023 21:29

I'm slim but unfashionable and just throw on anything (most of the time resembling someone who got dressed in the dark at a jumble sale)

Any of my friends who are bigger are fashionable and look great. They are more into clothes and even though they're larger they wear outfits that are flattering. Maybe people on style and beauty find it harder to dress for their shape so ask for advice more?

JockTamsonsBairns · 02/07/2023 21:29

Don't know about pp themselves, but I'm never sure about how everyone seems to have teenagers who "inhale" vast amounts of food, but are beanpoles.
I have four older brothers. My mother could never have afforded for them to inhale food - everything in the fridge was earmarked for a meal. They were all active, but none of them were beanpoles.

I suppose I just don't understand the science behind it? And it doesn't stack up with the teenage obesity stats.

Avondale89 · 02/07/2023 21:29

Many people on AIBU are perfect parents, partners, friends, colleagues and citizens. Stands to reason they’d never dream of allowing themselves to ever be bigger than a size 12 😉

TrueScrumptious · 02/07/2023 21:30

On here, if you are slim, you’re accused of competitive undereating.

That wasn’t actually what the OP was asking though, was it?

Losing weight is incredibly easy and simple. In theory. Not so much in practice for many, many people.

Oh well done, you just cured Obesity

Backstreets · 02/07/2023 21:33

I think if you’re happy with your size you’re more likely to post about it. I always got the impression MN posters are very diverse, but I read the dieting boards a fair bit too.

FuppingEll · 02/07/2023 21:34

I'm a size 10, closer to an 8 at the minute but I'm not healthy though. I've lost half a stone over the past month because I've been too queasy to actually eat and when I do it's whatever I can stomach, standing is a task sometimes right now nevermind exercising. Pre being ill I had food issues, would binge sometimes, restrict other times. The only exercise I really do is dog walking for a few hours a day.

Weight and food is a really complex issue I think. I try overall to aim for balance but like a lot of people I have issues.

EvilElsa · 02/07/2023 21:37

Yeah of course some do. It's an Internet forum, I'd be surprised if 50% was fully true.
I'm a size 10/12 and really into fitness and weight lifting -but I also have cellulite, eat crap some days and love coke zero which I drink too much of. After suffering most of my twenties with a raging eating disorder and exercise addiction I can confirm that being the "perfect 10" with a bikini fitness model body DID NOT make me happy. It actually made me fucking downright miserable. I was paranoid, sad, obsessed and hungry. I lived on 600 cals a day for a long time. My hair was thin and my skin was dull. Now I have a much healthier balance and although I sometimes look at photos and torture myself I know I never want to be there again. At the time I'd have been on here pretending I was blissfully happy because it made it true if I said it out loud. I wasn't.

I agree, I think bigger people are just asking for advice more. Slim people don't worry as much and wear whatever or else may dress simply in jeans and t-shirts like I do.

Not you again. No one's interested in your goady comments.

bonfirebash · 02/07/2023 21:45

I guess some do, but then I think there's a range like everywhere
I'm a 16 but exercise a fair amount and eat pretty well

qualitychat · 02/07/2023 21:48

As women we are obsessed with our weight and size. I go out a lot with three other couples and their DHs. They all go on about their weight - we are all menopausal. None of the men are slim but they don't give a toss. Why do we torture ourselves?

OP posts:
Persiana · 02/07/2023 21:49

Maybe larger sizes post on style and beauty because it really is harder to find well fitting clothes that flatter larger sizes? I'm not criticizing larger sizes, just that I've noticed they are usually looking for advice

Jazzybean · 02/07/2023 21:50

I’m a 12 and not tall so I’m a bit chunky. I’m very slightly overweight (massive mumsnet crime). I love exercise but I also really fucking love sugar and have little to no impulse control. But you know what, I don’t really care 🤷‍♀️ I cook nice meals, I enjoy chocolate, I have fun.

Another one agreeing. I didn't need advice when I was a size 10-12 because frankly I looked great in pretty much everything. I still dont frequent it that often but I have to be WAY fussier with my clothing choices at a size 16, so I can see how people would be more likely to.
