Bit naughty but I find this bit of karma so satisfying and amusing

So I have taxi driver friend - he picked a woman up from the airport and took her to her home. He says she was chatty and friendly throughout the ride. Got to hers -the fare was just over 60 quid. He helped her with her bags , she said she had to go indoors to get his money. Ten minutes passed and nothing he knocked on the door -no answer. Knocked again - she leaned out of an upstairs window and asked him what he wanted - he obviously told her. She said she didn’t know what he was on about -she hadn’t been in his cab. Closed the window- he banged on the door again. She leaned out again and threatened to call the police and tell them he was harassing her. She clearly never had any intention of paying him- though they agreed the fare before the ride.. He walked back his car debating what to do. Then he heard a mobile phone ring in the back of the cab. He answered it and was her demanding her phone back . He said “sorry you seem to have forgotten you weren’t in my cab !” He drove off - I don’t know tbh what he intends to do with the phone . But talk about reaping what you sow . Dunno if I’m being mean to find it so satisfying 🤷‍♀️

That's karma🤣I hope he gets what he's owed.🥰

TallahatchieBridge · 04/07/2023 00:33

I wouldn't even give her the phone back for the taxi fare.

She'd need to pay more for the time he wasted knocking on her door and for driving to take it back etc!

My dd as a 15 year old teen got caught up in a dine and dash.
A school friend had an older db and he and his gf invited them to eat lunch at a local restaurant.
Dd was excited to be invited but came home very upset when after finishing the meal her friend and the db and gf told her they were leaving - now!
Dd knew no one had paid, didn’t have much money and just left with them telling us as soon as she got home.
After a debate about what to do we did nothing, I wasn’t going to get stung for 4 meals. Dd hated walking past that restaurant for months.

Why didn’t you contact the friend’s parents?

SD1978 · 04/07/2023 01:21

Was it on off the books fair? Otherwise why didn't he call the police there and then, as she was evading to pay?

I'm not sure why people aren't believing OP
I'd heard this same story, with slight variations on where the passenger was dropped off, many times before. It's like when you hear an urban legend that the 'teller' swears happened to a friend "who wouldn't lie about it"

Doesn't mean it's not a good story 🤷‍♀️

Oh really? Yes that puts a different flavour on it then I guess.

I still think it's likely true though. It is almost identical to my laptop story which did happen to me.

And let's face it, excessive alcohol makes people mad. I went for dinner one night with my friend who was going through an awful time. A lot of wine was downed, I noticed her glass needed constant replenishing. We got the bill, I went to the bathroom and called my partner for a lift. When I returned to the table my friend informed me very calmly she was just waiting for her friend (insert my name). I could not get her to move from the table and she was so insistent she needed to wait for her friend (me) who was in the bathroom.

So I don't think it's that far fetched that this person walked inside and literally forgot they were due to go back out and pay or even that they'd been in a taxi.

How did she call when her phone was in the cab?

A lot of people stopped having landlines, but I guess she still had her landline?

I don’t believe this. He immediately answered her cell phone? A cab driver would most likely hear it ring but not answer it, but yes hold on to it because it is obviously leverage against someone who refused to pay and performed a one act play to entertain us. But to immediately answer it? He didn’t know her name, did he? So if her name showed up on her phone, he wouldn’t recognize and know to answer it. But you say she called and demanded her phone back. Unless she hung out of the second story window again while calling on her landline to her cell phone in the cab so cab driver would know it’s her and would know to answer it, why would he answer it?

Most people still have a landline, because declining a landline doesn’t actually make broadband package cheaper.

That happened to me once. I wrote the restaurant a letter and put my share, plus tip in it.

This is what I would do too. Bizarre it didn’t occur to the poster.

And weird that dd didn’t take enough money to pay for herself. Being invited for lunch doesn’t necessarily mean they were going to pay for her.

Caelan2018 · 04/07/2023 10:19

Who is 1% ?? Total karma charge her 200 for it and tell her he calling cops cheek of her

oggie679 · 04/07/2023 12:14

Beautiful example of karma, good on him.

It’s not about whether she had money to pay for herself. She would have been held to pay for the lot so had no option but to run too.

Although I would have put it on my card and pretended the others had to dash off.

Madamum18 · 04/07/2023 13:05

She got everything she deserved OP!!

Can they hold back a child to pay for the lot? I doubt it.

LoyalMember · 06/02/2024 18:16

If it's a decent phone he'd likely get £60 for it, and that'll cover the fare.

Fooodie · 06/02/2024 23:33

That happened to my husband when he was taxiing. He called the police and the guy was the son of the head teacher of the local school. They paid up pretty quick. He also had occasion to pull into the local police station as a woman refused to pay and offered sex instead, she paid up too. He had so many times when he had to chase after customers for the fare that he quit.

He should log a crime online and get a reference number. Or phone 101

OpalOrchid · 07/02/2024 20:49

I've read that story somewhere else. Probably on FB.
