Bit naughty but I find this bit of karma so satisfying and amusing

So I have taxi driver friend - he picked a woman up from the airport and took her to her home. He says she was chatty and friendly throughout the ride. Got to hers -the fare was just over 60 quid. He helped her with her bags , she said she had to go indoors to get his money. Ten minutes passed and nothing he knocked on the door -no answer. Knocked again - she leaned out of an upstairs window and asked him what he wanted - he obviously told her. She said she didn’t know what he was on about -she hadn’t been in his cab. Closed the window- he banged on the door again. She leaned out again and threatened to call the police and tell them he was harassing her. She clearly never had any intention of paying him- though they agreed the fare before the ride.. He walked back his car debating what to do. Then he heard a mobile phone ring in the back of the cab. He answered it and was her demanding her phone back . He said “sorry you seem to have forgotten you weren’t in my cab !” He drove off - I don’t know tbh what he intends to do with the phone . But talk about reaping what you sow . Dunno if I’m being mean to find it so satisfying 🤷‍♀️

Nice story

putthatdownsteve · 02/07/2023 15:38

Really?

MySugarBabyLove · 02/07/2023 15:45

Obviously this is an urban myth, but this is the kind of thing, if it happened, would have me cackling with glee.

bagpuss90 · 02/07/2023 15:47

Honestly it happened -unless he was lying to me of course. But I honestly don’t think he was

She pays the fare, he gives her the phone. Simple.

This.

But I LOVE it when Karma bites back so quickly.

CoffeeCantata · 02/07/2023 15:51

Yes - one for the connoisseur!

Lurkylurks · 02/07/2023 15:52

Guess she's lucky she had a landline to call her phone.

Upwardtrajectory · 02/07/2023 15:54

I know these stories sound unbelievable, but honestly, back in my student days, working as a waitress, and a couple came in, ordered the full works - starters, mains, desserts, wine, the lot - and then scarpered without paying. And then had to slink back in to get the phone they’d left on the table, which we now had behind the bar. They pretended they hadn’t left and just asked to settle up like nothing had happened, but they couldn’t look us the eye. It was wonderful.

Plenty of video cam doorbells in most streets anyway?

If only Karma was always so ruthlessly efficient.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 02/07/2023 16:03

So, did he give it her back? And did she pay???!!

DrSbaitso · 02/07/2023 15:25

I think so.

Yep

Zimunya · 02/07/2023 16:09

Love a bit of karma!

I know. We do though but don't have it plugged in.

Tess3 · 02/07/2023 16:10

Ha hell slap it up her the low life.
Driver shouldn't leave the scene and should contact the police.

To those questioning the validity of this story, I work for a taxi company and believe me this very much does happen!!

I'd go further than that. This cheeky swine needs to be taught a lesson. She'll continue to do it otherwise. I'd go to the police regardless.

SayHi · 02/07/2023 16:24

I love this!!

I’m not sure what part some posters are struggling to believe - that she refused to pay the fare or that she left her phone in his cab.

People try and get out of paying fares all of the time.
For most taxi drivers I’d say it happens on a weekly basis.

And people do leave their phones in taxis all of the time too.
I rarely use taxis but twice I’ve found someone’s phone and one of those times they rang it.

People always regularly dine and dash but that’s often captured on cctv.
There was a family who did it last week in my local area husband, wife and 3 kids and just ran off.

OnlyFannys · 02/07/2023 16:28

My dad was a taxi driver, people pulled this shit all the time. He used to keep items until they paid and often people never did (presume alcohol was involved and they forgot). He once kept someone's walking stick 😬 It can be a really shitty job

My dd as a 15 year old teen got caught up in a dine and dash.
A school friend had an older db and he and his gf invited them to eat lunch at a local restaurant.
Dd was excited to be invited but came home very upset when after finishing the meal her friend and the db and gf told her they were leaving - now!
Dd knew no one had paid, didn’t have much money and just left with them telling us as soon as she got home.
After a debate about what to do we did nothing, I wasn’t going to get stung for 4 meals. Dd hated walking past that restaurant for months.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 02/07/2023 16:39

It does sound like an urban legend but is fun to contemplate.

I think in his shoes I'd take the phone to the furthest possible police department, or perhaps even mail it to some obscure office at the airport where it might sit unopened for days, weeks or months. "Unknown passenger left in cab" note enclosed.

The satisfaction would be worth losing out on the 60 quid.

I at least would have paid for her meal, even anonymously if necessary.

TwoFourSixEightNeverTooLate · 02/07/2023 16:39

@HarrisJu did you not at least take her in and pay for what she actually ate then?
