Bit naughty but I find this bit of karma so satisfying and amusing

So I have taxi driver friend - he picked a woman up from the airport and took her to her home. He says she was chatty and friendly throughout the ride. Got to hers -the fare was just over 60 quid. He helped her with her bags , she said she had to go indoors to get his money. Ten minutes passed and nothing he knocked on the door -no answer. Knocked again - she leaned out of an upstairs window and asked him what he wanted - he obviously told her. She said she didn’t know what he was on about -she hadn’t been in his cab. Closed the window- he banged on the door again. She leaned out again and threatened to call the police and tell them he was harassing her. She clearly never had any intention of paying him- though they agreed the fare before the ride.. He walked back his car debating what to do. Then he heard a mobile phone ring in the back of the cab. He answered it and was her demanding her phone back . He said “sorry you seem to have forgotten you weren’t in my cab !” He drove off - I don’t know tbh what he intends to do with the phone . But talk about reaping what you sow . Dunno if I’m being mean to find it so satisfying 🤷‍♀️

I love it! I have a nearly identical story. I was dating a younger guy about ten years ago. It was good fun (he was gorgeous!) but I knew there was no future due to the age gap. I had started thinking about how to wind it down but I was delaying as was hooked on the sex.

Anyway it came to an abrupt end. We were out for a drink and he invited his friend from home out. This was unusual.

The friend came in and had eyes on stalks looking at me. It was unnerving. The pair of them proceeded to get really drunk and behaving like a pair of apes, showing off etc. A couple of times I decided to call it a night but he persuaded me to hold on, pushing back the restaurant reservation.

Finally he started kissing me in front of his friend and groped me. Absolutely disgusting. I pushed him off hard and told him to go F himself, grabbed my stuff and ran off for a taxi.

He chased after me, yelling abuse and caught my arm at the taxi shouting in my face. The friend was roaring laughing at it all. Very ugly. I got into the taxi and he pulled the door open. The driver got involved then, I told him to just drive.

I could not believe this was the charming guy I'd been having dates with for the last couple of months.

Imagine my surprise the next day to see his caller ID flash up. Out of curiosity I picked up.

Himself and his friend had continued to get completely out of their minds and then drove around in a taxi trying to source some drugs. They racked up a bill of 70 pounds and decided to do a runner. Afterwards he discovered he had left his laptop behind which he really really needed immediately.

The taxi driver told him if he paid 100 he would return it.

I laughed so hard and hung up the phone.

Why did he take his laptop with him to find drugs ?

And why did he call you?

wutheringkites · 03/07/2023 20:03

That's even less believable than the op.

As its a criminal offence not to pay a taxi fare then if I was him I'd be telling her pay up and she gets the phone otherwise he contacts the police.

I have a friend who is a taxi driver, he took an old lady home, roughly £50 fare. When they got to her address she said "I'm sorry I don't have any money, You can take me to the police station is you want but it never seems to help the driver get their money". My friend simply left her and drove back to his base,

Maireas · 03/07/2023 20:06

How come he rang you? Did he think you could get a laptop from a taxi driver you never met?

My dd as a 15 year old teen got caught up in a dine and dash.
A school friend had an older db and he and his gf invited them to eat lunch at a local restaurant.
Dd was excited to be invited but came home very upset when after finishing the meal her friend and the db and gf told her they were leaving - now!
Dd knew no one had paid, didn’t have much money and just left with them telling us as soon as she got home.
After a debate about what to do we did nothing, I wasn’t going to get stung for 4 meals. Dd hated walking past that restaurant for months.

That happened to me once. I wrote the restaurant a letter and put my share, plus tip in it.

Sounds like taxi companies and drivers shed do like shops and notify each other especially when there is an actual home address involved.

I love stuff like this but you always find somebody not believing it ... but these things do happen

When I was walking from my house down to the bus stop (when I lived in a suburb some 25 years ago,) it was a good 10 minute walk to the bus stop from my house. I was walking out of my little cul-de-sac down the main road, and this Ford Escort with three blokes in it drove past. One of them yelled out of the window 'you fucking fat ugly cunt!' and threw a half full can of coke at me. Whacked me straight in the small of my back. I winced in pain. They all howled with laughter.

Literally 10 seconds later - they got to the traffic island at the bottom of the road, and the car wouldn't stop on the patch of ice at the bottom - and the car went slamming into a 40 ton artic that was coming round the island. None of them were seriously hurt (and I wouldn't have wished for them to be seriously hurt,) but the car was fucked, and I am pretty sure they were late for work/lost the morning's pay. Delicious karma!

Summerskies2023 · 03/07/2023 21:06

Haha serves her right

chaosmaker · 03/07/2023 21:07

@bagpuss90 but why would you do this when the driver knows where you live?

Grrrrdarling · 03/07/2023 21:14

bagpuss90 · 02/07/2023 15:47

Honestly it happened -unless he was lying to me of course. But I honestly don’t think he was

So what happened then?
Did she call the police?
Did he call the police?
Did she pay her fare for the taxi ride & get her phone back?
Karma is great sometimes 😂

And why did he call you?

I assume he was hoping I'd give him the money.

Maireas · 03/07/2023 20:06

For money I assume! He was clearly still off his face.

Juanmartinez · 03/07/2023 19:51

Why did he take his laptop with him to find drugs ?

He always had it with him in his backpack.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 03/07/2023 21:31

I'd go further than that. This cheeky swine needs to be taught a lesson. She'll continue to do it otherwise. I'd go to the police regardless.

So would I. Aside from the intrinsic value of the phone, most people nowadays would be seriously lost without their phone for several days.

As to why the driver would have answered it, he wasn't to know that it didn't belong to a previous (honest) customer; plus if he could record the conversation on his own phone, he could grab extra evidence/ammo to use against her.

She really would not have a single leg to stand on. He would have had several fares that day, any of which could have left their phone, and she categorically denied having been in his cab.

I can see how this might sound far-fetched to some people, but taxi-users doing a runner and also leaving their phones happens a lot, so it's not that unbelievable at all that somebody might do both.

I know a lot of people no longer use landlines, but plenty still do; or she could have borrowed a partner's/child's/housemate's phone to call.

And the band played Believe It If You Like.

Hehasasecretfriend · 03/07/2023 22:51

wutheringkites · 03/07/2023 20:03

That's even less believable than the op.

And yet it's true!

Hehasasecretfriend · 03/07/2023 22:57

I'm not sure why people aren't believing OP. People are ridiculous when they are drunk, I'm sure this is mild in the average night time taxi driver's stories.

A taxi driver I knew was telling me about driving this young very drunk woman home one night. He could hear her moving about in the back seat and when he looked back she'd stripped off completely and was fast asleep.

He said he was no way putting his hand on her to wake her. He knocked on the front door, her mother charged out shouting Ns swearing and hauled her into the house. I can't imagine the hangover.

Viviennemary · 03/07/2023 22:58

Unfair as it sounds I think legally speaking he doesnt have the right to keep the phone because she owes him the fare money.

EggWind · 03/07/2023 23:05

Excellent 😎

CJsGoldfish · 03/07/2023 23:18

I'm not sure why people aren't believing OP
I'd heard this same story, with slight variations on where the passenger was dropped off, many times before. It's like when you hear an urban legend that the 'teller' swears happened to a friend "who wouldn't lie about it"

Doesn't mean it's not a good story 🤷‍♀️

MenoRageisReal · 03/07/2023 23:21

If it's true, I think he should do a really embarrassing "send to all" message from her phone Grin think Michael McIntyre style gone dark

Salome61 · 03/07/2023 23:47

My son is a taxi driver. It's a hard way to earn a living, and I worry about his safety.

SlightlyJaded · 03/07/2023 23:49

Cool story
