Is this the mother of all calling out - Katherine Birbalsingh

Katherine Birbalsingh has done the mother of all calling out and I can't help but sit here with my jaw on the kitchen table in awe.

She has written a 4-page open letter to Sir Kerr Starmer calling out Jess Phillip's behaviour online. Whilst I don't always agree with KB's methods of the school she runs, I do think that Jess Phillips behaviour towards her is shocking and unbefitting of someone who could be running the country. JP should resign TBH.

Headteacher Katharine Birbalsingh brands Labour MP Jess Phillips' social media posts 'racist and bullying'

Katharine Birbalsingh addressed the open letter to Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer. Labour has not commented on the matter and Sky News has contacted Ms Phillips for her response.

@SunnyEgg "I’d say she did as someone put something up, people piled on and an MP thought they’d involved to make that person feel worse. Why?"
Sorry- in what way is that her starting it?

Why react to it at all?

Looking at the link in the op

‘said she inadvertently tweeted a picture of Tina Turner alongside her abusive former husband Ike Turner amid tributes to the late star.’

What does it achieve than make someone feel bad about an image, which sounds like it should have been cropped

It’s not really in an MPs remit to hold HT to account for a misadvised Twitter pic

Twitter may have its benefits but I can’t say I’m seeing them in evidence here

KB made a mistake, owned it, apologised, and took it down. KB thinks that JP used it as a platform to lay into her for her other beliefs which are polar opposites to JP's.

No she didn’t. She kept maintaining it had been a gif, when it clearly wasn’t. The letter contains several ‘inaccuracies’ including not appearing to know who Aslan is (and that tweet was from 2018 anyway). It’s all nonsense.

CurlewKate · 03/07/2023 18:34

@SunnyEgg You might want to have a look at the facts and the timeline before you comment- it is not as you represent it.

Do you mean KB directly addressed Phillips first? To say what?

Or did KB put up an image then many responded including JP

What is the timeline in your view?

Well it's good that she's admitted to making such a howler of a mistake, shame she forgot to actually apologise.

Imagine lying and falsely accusing someone of racism because you can't read, and then doubling down and continuing to play the victim.

She runs a school, does a headmistress really not have anything better to do than spend hours on Twitter writing childish tweets like "dear random person I am unblocking you because [stupid argument point]"

She's just a thick attention seeker trying to chase clout and celebrity. Probably only a matter of time before she goes on I'm a Celeb Get Me Out of Here. Shame she's chosen kids as her way of chasing fame and attention, though.

These Twitter fights she constantly gets into certainly ensures her a ready supply of media attention.

I kind of assumed she'd end up in the House of Lords

It's very possible. They could both end up there. That could be a lot of fun.

KB practically defines DARVO!!

derxa · 03/07/2023 19:21

As a former teacher I would far rather have taught in KB’s school than an establishment where I was sworn and threatened every five minutes. As for Send pupils, many thrive with very clear rules and a calm atmosphere. I hated Ofsted but to achieve “outstanding” doesn’t mean everything but it means that the school has good safeguarding in place.

Not if the first time you disagreed with something or failed to have the correct expression on your face, perhaps because you were having a particularly unpleasant period or back pain, your employer didn't listen our read your email properly and instigated dismissal proceedings on the grounds you were a racist attacking her for her ethnicity, though, would you?

That's the danger with someone like this - they can misinterpret anything and go straight on the attack, even when it's right in front of them and everybody else that it didn't happen.

Has KB done this? Does she have a high staff turnover?

DojaPhat · 03/07/2023 20:31

@Kiwano No. The information on JP and Diane Abbott is out there and available for all to see and read. I stopped doing the 'research' for white people years ago. In part because the script will follow one of two paths. Both paths, however, include a lot of denial, minimising and meandering. It's exhausting to say the least. It's quite easy these days to accept 'defeat' with another tired and worn out trope about 'being too lazy' to substantiate 'made up' claims, which you demonstrate perfectly in your post. I've done this dance both IRL and online more times than I care to count. Enjoy your evening.

I would think it would take a particular person to work at that school.

7 am SLT meeting on a Monday.

And if her twitter persona is anything like her real persona, she seems confident in her opinions, wants to only hear views that reflect her views and does not like people pointing out mistakes she has made.

Which would be a difficult person to work for.

KB put up the image of a wife beater heading it ‘Good Times’.

JP commented on it by retweeting it. She has strong links with DV charities and campaigning.

But you know this.

She has also misread a tweet from a screenshot she got and used that tweet as an accusation. After this was pointed out to her, she said she needed glasses.

She claimed that there was a mistake with the image.

She claimed that JP just commented on her appearance at the conference - which is not true.

She got the time line wrong and claimed that screenshots show the time of the screenshot - which was shown to be a lie.

People who point out her errors get called racist.

Not exactly the conduct you expect from a Head Teacher.

LittleBearPad · 03/07/2023 21:27

Well no but she had a strop when it was pointed out that the Churchill quote painted on the school wall was wrong.

Her attention to detail is generally poor.

Of course I don’t. Why are you feeling so assured on what others know?

‘Good times’ is not in the op’s link.

Maybe you should read the thread

It has updates during the day as KB was tweeting furiously yesterday - and backtracking as her "mistakes" were pointed out.

SunnyEgg · 03/07/2023 21:31

People clearly follow KB much more closely than I ever have

I’m going by what is on mn and this thread

She seems to get into people’s heads for various reasons but not everyone is that aware of Twitter personalities.

She is a prominent Head Teacher who was the Governments social mobility tsar- I am not sure what example she is setting her pupils by the mistakes she made in her open letter.

And accusing a prominent MP of racism in an open letter - and then calling people racist when they point out the inaccuracies in her letter is not a good look for a Head Teacher.

SunnyEgg · 03/07/2023 21:35

As I said there’s a link in the op.

I read it and quoted it. I don’t have to spend time on another platform even if it leaves out a few words

It’s not that riveting. I don’t know how people can get so involved in Twitter spats to the extent they do

You’re all here to fill those of us in who don’t bother with it anyway

LittleBearPad · 03/07/2023 21:36

This is her tweet. It’s been retweeted by Janey Godley as you will see.

JG has 300,000 followers but hasn’t been accused by KB of inciting racial hatred.

JP’s tweet was later. But she’s accused of causing the pile-on.

It’s all bollocks.
