So until the last couple of days everything I've sold has been given 5 stars. Then the last 2 days I've got 4 out of 5 twice and it's really annoyed me! 1 gave me 4 because "dont believe it's new without tags" fair, except I didn't say it was. I listed it as "very good condition". The other one says "item as described" and gave me 4 out of 5. Now I realise it really doesn't actually matter but I'd always leave 5 stars personally unless there's a problem (which there wasn't - both were marked as OK and I've been paid out) so what I'm wondering is whether I'm too generous with my reviews. Would you always leave a 5 star if everything is ok? Or would you downgrade without stating a reason?

I always think it’s odd that Vinted ask whether the item fits well when you get the request for more detailed feedback. As you say, that’s not down to the seller. I only buy brands I know but even then I occasionally get something that’s not a great fit. Just the risk you take buying second hand!

I bought a jigsaw puzzle on Vinted and was asked to rate how well it fitted.

I find it interesting that people value Vinted sellers send messages thanking them for for buying, and having a follow up message asking if everything is ok. For me, the extra messages are pointless, clog up my inbox and give me an additional admin burden when I’ve already clicked on button saying that everything is ok.

Me too! Vinted already gives far too many messages for me. I like knowing it’s been posted, or if there’s a problem. I don’t need an extra inbox message to tell me that a postage label has been sent to my email when I just clicked a button asking it to do exactly that.

@Tinybrother @toastofthetown me three! Find it super annoying getting an extra message saying they've posted it when I've literally just received an automatic notification letting me know that. The only time as a seller I'll message someone is if it's taken a few days to post it so I'll just apologise for the delay.

(and don't get me started on the people that immediately message you when you favourite something! I'm just browsing at the moment!! jeez)

I gave 3* once but only because they said the dungarees were ‘very good’ and they arrived with a missing button and some marks on them that wouldn’t wash off. I wouldn’t randomly drop a star or two for no real reason. Only reason I’ve ever left negative is when people haven’t posted the items, those people are mega annoying.

Very rarely give 5 stars because there's usually something that can be improved but I don't use Vinted (although perhaps I should) looking at the bargains your selling/buying!

What would your optimal Vinted seller do to get five stars from you?

I didn’t realise 5 star was the default. I reserve that for when I seller messages me to say thanks for buying and then sends straight away. Then messages to say it’s been sent. Then the item is good.

If just gets sent with no communication and not quickly, but the item is ok I’ll give a 3. Reviews (I thought) should be an honest reflection and helps other buyers. What’s the point in giving 5 stars unless it’s an exceptional service?

How does it help other buyers? Other buyers just want to know the item you received was as described and expected. By giving 3 you are giving other buyers the impression that you are in some way disappointed with the item. There is no way they would know you were disappointed by the lack of meaningless chit chat!

I've had someone deduct a star because the dress didn't fit them which pissed me off! That's not my fault, it was a 14, I sold it as a 14, it wasn't obviously small for a 14 (it fitted me), how is the fact it didn't fit you my fault or helpful for other buyers?

I don't do Vinted but do eBay and often put actual measurements or comment whether it is a small or generous size 14. Also if the wash label has a colour, if I will comment on that if I don't think the label is quite accurate.

I got a 1* recently because a dress, that I had taken the time to provide all the measurements, was longer than she'd expected. She got it straight back, and given that I have 700 ratings and she has 3 you guess can who came off worse!

How can sellers improve on something when they are individuals selling second hand and will only be selling that item once? They are not large companies selling volumes of the same item!

No, that’s just your opinion. I would take a three star review differently and think that maybe they didn’t communicate or send quickly and I’d take a 1 star that the item was crap. And there will be other people like me. Because people are all different. But if I give a 3 star review I’ll say why.

Also, it’s not meaningless chit chat. I just want to be told when they item will be / has been sent. Not a chat about their lives 😆

But there’s automatic shipping notifications on Vinted. I don’t need the seller to send me a message saying it’s shipped because I already know as I have a notification and email from Vinted, and separate emails and potentially SMSs from the courier. This is my most recent Vinted purchase and I don’t know what the seller sending me a separate notification would have achieved (other than annoyance that I now have to clear another notification).

Someone left me a 1 star review because Evri posted it through the wrong door. I am not in control of Evri and their neighbours gave it to them the same day it was delivered anyway.

You absolutely are in charge of Evri - you appointed them as your delivery agent. If a delivery goes missing, it is completely the seller's responsibility.

I'm not entirely sure that's how it works with Vinted as the buyer selects the courier they want to use and pays for the shipping. I appointed no one. Eiher way it was a human error corrected same day so not sure it warranted a 1 star review.

a - no the buyer chooses what delivery agent they want
b -no, that's why the buyer pays the 'buyer protection fee' not the seller- as long as the seller can prove they posted the item, after that it's not their issue, vinted will send them their money regardless of if the seller receives it (there may be a wait if the buyer raises a dispute, but the onus is on the buyer to raise this, but the seller won't be penalised)

I always use recycled packaging, always tell them I’ve sent. But I’m not going above and beyond for a £1 book!
What do people mean? Prompt to pay? I hold nothing, people often ask loads of questions, requests bundle, send offer, then don’t buy.

Plus you can’t turn Inpost off!! And sometimes god only knows where they go, leave locker then into black hole for about a week, then start moving again!

Yes you can. Go into your settings and then choose your postage options. I quite like inpost but my friend turned that option off because the ones near her are always full.

I also only use methods where I can print out a label and attach it myself - I’ve heard of too many occasions when Inpost unlabelled parcels have been switched accidentally

No 3 or 4 is good standard service.
To get 5 you would need to go above and beyond. Not just wrap and post

I would like a message once I have paid telling me when they are going to post. If its in a few days that's fine but don't leave me hanging say Hi I'm busy until Wednesday but will post then
