People who leave less than 5 star reviews on Vinted

So until the last couple of days everything I've sold has been given 5 stars. Then the last 2 days I've got 4 out of 5 twice and it's really annoyed me! 1 gave me 4 because "dont believe it's new without tags" fair, except I didn't say it was. I listed it as "very good condition". The other one says "item as described" and gave me 4 out of 5. Now I realise it really doesn't actually matter but I'd always leave 5 stars personally unless there's a problem (which there wasn't - both were marked as OK and I've been paid out) so what I'm wondering is whether I'm too generous with my reviews. Would you always leave a 5 star if everything is ok? Or would you downgrade without stating a reason?

@ReachForTheMars Oh ffs. That’s so patronising.

OlympicProcrastinator · 30/06/2023 07:55

there's no point paying to return it to the seller, what a waste of money! just bung it back on Vinted! (you might even be able to get more for it than you paid!

I can’t be arsed selling on Vinted but in this case, I couldn’t have anyway. It absolutely STANK like a hippo went clubbing in it. I was so annoyed and it’s the one time I actually wanted to leave a shit review. But alas..

SimonsCow · 30/06/2023 07:57

I left a 4 star review because an item was described as ‘very good’ when actually the black was so faded it was grey. Didn’t show on the photo. Thinking about it I should have dropped a few more stars.

OlympicProcrastinator · 30/06/2023 08:00

What do you mean you don’t wait until the last minute to pay? You pay when you buy the item and until you’ve done that the item isn’t yours

I think they mean because the seller doesn’t have the money released to them until you press the ‘everything is ok’ button after receipt. If you want to be an arse, you can just leave it and it’s gets paid automatically a few days later if you don’t raise a complaint.

swimminginthesun · 30/06/2023 08:01

@OlympicProcrastinator Of course! That makes sense. Thanks.

Nothingfree · 30/06/2023 08:08

At least you get a review, I am 5 star's also and only 1 or 2 out of 5 bother with a review, they spend £1 or £2 and within 48 hrs are down your throat asking when you are you shipping ,like you are their personal shopper and must forget you have a busy homelife/work to serve them for their £1 steal of a deal etc... then they don't bother to release the payment until it auto pays even though they don't have to get of their arse like the seller but can't really complain keeps my house free of clutter 😂

Freysimo · 30/06/2023 08:18

I've had good experiences so far with Vinted and have always given 5 . I recently bought something from Etsy which never turned up and no communication from seller. They got 1 and I can't raise an issue for 90 days apparently! Lucky didn't spend much.

croft89 · 30/06/2023 08:18

Sallywallywoowoo · 29/06/2023 21:02

Yeah I did. But I'm still irrationally annoyed. It was a lovely dress that had been worn twice that cost about £70 and I sold for £5. Honestly I only bothered to sell it so it wouldn't end up in landfill. GAH!

All this stress for £5

Is your time not worth more to you?

Why not just give it to charity

Freysimo · 30/06/2023 08:19

No idea why that's in bold, sorry!

A rating is so much more helpful with a comment. Whether that’s five star or one.

Sorry to hijack. Can i ask if vinted is worth doing? I have just joined to sell my daughter’s clothes. I put on a virtually unworn brandy Melville jumper for £11 which is below the average price I saw when doing my research. I have been given a free ‘bump’. It has been favourited by five people but has not sold. it has been on there for three days. I would really appreciate some tips. Is this normal? Should I just sell everything for £5? I was only going to sell items from brandy, Hollister, urban outfitters and Topshop as I I’m not sure the H&M stuff is worth selling. Before I start listing all the other clothes, I would love to get some advice whether or not my quest is worth the effort. Thanks.

This is normal. I never put up loads at once, I put things up in small batches (I try to be seasonal too) and then older stuff often goes as people look at the other stuff you have on there. I have things that have been on there for months, but I’m not in a hurry.

TBF all these different versions of what reviews and stars mean just goes to show how unreliable the system is, on all platforms.

gogomoto · 30/06/2023 08:29

I've given 4 because whilst it was acceptable condition wise describing is as very good was a stretch, there was some fading and bobbling. To me very good is without aging

gogomoto · 30/06/2023 08:29

Surely 5 stars is above and beyond what you would expect?

latetothefisting · 30/06/2023 08:40

I've had someone deduct a star because the dress didn't fit them which pissed me off! That's not my fault, it was a 14, I sold it as a 14, it wasn't obviously small for a 14 (it fitted me), how is the fact it didn't fit you my fault or helpful for other buyers?

onthenightfeed · 30/06/2023 08:45

To be honest... does anyone actually look at a seller's reviews before buying? I buy from vinted all the time and have never once looked at anyone's reviews!

Tinybrother · 30/06/2023 08:52

I suppose I might do if I were looking at two very similar things and trying to decide between them

Usually have a quick scan through them. I always look at the star rating. If lower than 4 I would check reviews to see why. And if two people were selling the same item I’d probably buy from the one with the higher rating. Recently saw a seller with a one star rating. Four sales not completed. Didn’t buy.

I always think it’s odd that Vinted ask whether the item fits well when you get the request for more detailed feedback. As you say, that’s not down to the seller. I only buy brands I know but even then I occasionally get something that’s not a great fit. Just the risk you take buying second hand!

Hellocatshome · 30/06/2023 09:05

Someone left me a 1 star review because Evri posted it through the wrong door. I am not in control of Evri and their neighbours gave it to them the same day it was delivered anyway.

Yes the whole point is that you are given the brand and that brand’s size and you are expected to know/judge how that brand’s fit works on you. The wildly varying sizing of different brands is a different issue.

I did get some lovely trousers which were labelled “tall” which were being resold because the seller had bought them on Vinted and as per her description she didn’t look closely enough at the sizing and she is 5 foot nothing Grin

Three sounds generous in this case. If it was that bad could you not tell from the photos though?

No the dress looked fine in the photos. I looked back on the photos after receiving the dress and one patch of paint was visible when I zoomed in, knowing where to look. It was a very patterned dress and the holes were tiny, but everywhere. The dress was virtually frayed and threadbare, but the pattern was hiding the holes. They weren’t huge holes. But all over. I can’t think how it had happened, assuming washing problems. Or maybe moths.

I do if its out of my normal spend limit as its a risk if the sellers aren't honest and have possibly saved myslf the heart ache ,vinted customer services is carp so I do check on these occasions .

Lysianthus · 30/06/2023 10:21

I sold a pair of Gap jeans BNWT and in a pretty standard size. For £5. She left a 3 star review because they didn't fit. I closed my account.

Oh thanks. I should probably list a few more items then. That’s a good tip.

toastofthetown · 30/06/2023 10:47

I find it interesting that people value Vinted sellers send messages thanking them for for buying, and having a follow up message asking if everything is ok. For me, the extra messages are pointless, clog up my inbox and give me an additional admin burden when I’ve already clicked on button saying that everything is ok.
