People who leave less than 5 star reviews on Vinted

So until the last couple of days everything I've sold has been given 5 stars. Then the last 2 days I've got 4 out of 5 twice and it's really annoyed me! 1 gave me 4 because "dont believe it's new without tags" fair, except I didn't say it was. I listed it as "very good condition". The other one says "item as described" and gave me 4 out of 5. Now I realise it really doesn't actually matter but I'd always leave 5 stars personally unless there's a problem (which there wasn't - both were marked as OK and I've been paid out) so what I'm wondering is whether I'm too generous with my reviews. Would you always leave a 5 star if everything is ok? Or would you downgrade without stating a reason?

@TheFrogAteMyHomework Well the Vinted auto feedback gives five stars unless a seller raises an issue so I think that implies that five stars is the default unless something is wrong.

I agree this thread is weirdly interesting. There seem to be two main approaches - start low and expect the seller to earn their stars, or start high and deduct if they do something wrong!

MerryHen · 29/06/2023 23:52

I accidentally clicked on 4 instead of 5 once, felt bad and messaged the seller to apologise 😂

Also left 4* for a jacket the seller claimed had never been worn which had a shop receipt in one pocket and a scrumpled tissue in the other, and definitely felt as though it had been worn. If they'd just been honest about the condition I wouldn't have minded.

Seems to me that people who give fewer than 5 stars misunderstand the point of ratings. The stars aren't meant to judge a performance, but to indicate to other users whether they can buy or sell with confidence.
You're meant to leave 5 stars when the buyer/ seller can be trusted,it's a trust rating, not a blooming performance... Fewer stars pretty much mean 'mh, if you can, try to find another seller selling the same stuff, it might be better than this one'...

This totally. 5 stars if fine, always.

Tinybrother · 30/06/2023 06:48

Five stars is clearly the default as it’s what Vinted defaults to. People can argue the toss about how it could be improved or interpreted, and I don’t disagree.

”But, like others have said, it would never occur to me to leave the highest rating by default. I mainly just let Vinted do it automatically so will be giving 5* automatically. I only leave specific feedback for people who've gone out of their way to be helpful.”

you are leaving the highest rating by default then.

Cripes, what language, are you a teenager? The C word is anti women and not in common use for 10 years.

Bless you for your attempt at a put down Grin

I didn’t realise 5 star was the default. I reserve that for when I seller messages me to say thanks for buying and then sends straight away. Then messages to say it’s been sent. Then the item is good.

If just gets sent with no communication and not quickly, but the item is ok I’ll give a 3. Reviews (I thought) should be an honest reflection and helps other buyers. What’s the point in giving 5 stars unless it’s an exceptional service?

Im really annoyed you can’t give reviews on returns. A seller sold me a new with tags size 10 but sent me an absolutely stinking of sweat size 14. I had to pay for return so lost money but couldn’t leave a negative review.

I think this makes those 5 star reviews meaningless.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 30/06/2023 07:09

I gave 3 stars to a seller who sold me a kids dress. Covered in different coloured paint and hundreds of holes and rips. I would have been embarrassed selling that. It was a nice dress…before it was worn out.

straight to the bin. She then berated me for leaving 3 stars. It was advertised as in good condition and was fairly expensive for what it was.

Three sounds generous in this case. If it was that bad could you not tell from the photos though?

Your three is just as meaningless, given that many included Vinted are giving five as default. You aren’t conveying what you think you are.

Twattle · 30/06/2023 07:16

If you didn't post within 2 days I would leave 4 stars. I get fed up with excuses.

NoSun · 30/06/2023 07:17

I got a 4 star review, £2 for a never worn Jojo Maman Bebe skirt, I sent it the same day. Not sure what else the buyer wanted to be fair !

swimminginthesun · 30/06/2023 07:21

All I want from a Vinted review is to know whether a seller is trustworthy. I’m not looking for exceptional service, just to get the item I purchased in the condition described. As I mentioned before - Vinted sellers are people with jobs and other commitments, not businesses there to serve you. If a seller takes a few days to post I assume they are busy. It’s not a big deal.

Tinybrother · 30/06/2023 07:21

I can only post on work days, so if someone buys on a Friday I can’t post until Monday. I don’t always remember to tell people, and I have always got five stars regardless. But I don’t care if someone drops it to four, I can live with that Grin. I don’t expect fast service on Vinted, posting within the seven days stipulated by Vinted is fine for me, I buy things with that in mind. I do expect accurate descriptions obviously. But I’ve never felt a need to think any further than giving a default five stars, because service and descriptions have always been fine and accurate.

Tinybrother · 30/06/2023 07:25

If I’m getting £1 for a bundle of baby clothes then it can wait a couple of days for me to be in the vicinity of an Evri parcel shop, I’m not using more than £1’s worth of petrol going out of my way to get five stars Grin

swimminginthesun · 30/06/2023 07:27

@Tinybrother Exactly! Vinted terms are clear that a seller has 5 working days. If I need something quickly I wouldn’t buy from Vinted!

OlympicProcrastinator · 30/06/2023 07:32

No it’s not. But I didn’t realise how big a deal giving 3 stars versus 5 was for some either.

OlympicProcrastinator · 30/06/2023 07:33

I am. It’s conveying a true reflection of how I feel about the seller.

Twattle · 30/06/2023 07:33

You do have a maximum of 5 working days, but I'm still going to give you 4 stars, maybe less stars for the postage if I have to remind you and you don't message me first to say why you haven't posted. I don't wait until the last moment to pay. The vinted Evri and inPost, take a long time to deliver aswell.

Tinybrother · 30/06/2023 07:33

three stars isn’t a big deal as such, it’s just worth knowing you’re reviewing on a different basis to others. From my POV, it’s useful to know that three stars isn’t necessarily an untrustworthy seller without further information

Nah I work on the basis that people are doing their best. I find loads of personal messages annoying - I will get a notification when it’s posted and that’s fine for me. I get that you have other priorities and that’s fine.

Generalisation · 30/06/2023 07:44

A rating is so much more helpful with a comment. Whether that’s five star or one.

Sorry to hijack. Can i ask if vinted is worth doing? I have just joined to sell my daughter’s clothes. I put on a virtually unworn brandy Melville jumper for £11 which is below the average price I saw when doing my research. I have been given a free ‘bump’. It has been favourited by five people but has not sold. it has been on there for three days. I would really appreciate some tips. Is this normal? Should I just sell everything for £5? I was only going to sell items from brandy, Hollister, urban outfitters and Topshop as I I’m not sure the H&M stuff is worth selling. Before I start listing all the other clothes, I would love to get some advice whether or not my quest is worth the effort. Thanks.

there's no point paying to return it to the seller, what a waste of money! just bung it back on Vinted! (you might even be able to get more for it than you paid!)

I've been stung a few times by the item not being the size they've listed it as. Once it was a genuine Vinted glitch as we sent eachother screenshots of the ad, proving she had listed it correctly but it had showed up as the wrong size for me.

What winds me up the most is when people sell Zara clothes (which are sized in S,M,L etc and don't select that size on their add, as they chose the 10,12,14 etc size the believe it would fit! I have it filtered specifically for the Zara size i need, I don't need you listing it as something different from the bloody tag just because you don't think an L is a 12 grrrr.

swimminginthesun · 30/06/2023 07:45

@Twattle What do you mean you don’t wait until the last minute to pay? You pay when you buy the item and until you’ve done that the item isn’t yours. I know you can ask to reserve but the seller can say no to that if they want. I had a seller thanking me for quick payment recently and I was so confused. It’s not eBay where the auction ends and you can wait for a couple of days!

ReachForTheMars · 30/06/2023 07:52

Cant comment on vinted but a lot of people in etsy groups have been told by customers that they loved their product but never give 5* because tmeveryone always has room for improvement 🤯

Like you, I give 5* unless there is a problem the seller couldn't resolve.

swimminginthesun · 30/06/2023 07:53

@onthenightfeed I get annoyed when people list size 39 Superga shoes as a size 6 when that is actually a Superga 5.5! It’s right there on the label! I wish Vinted allowed european sizes to be added for footwear. And I wish they didn’t decide the conversions for S,M, L. It’s the same with Sweaty Betty. Vinted say an XS is a 6 but it’s a Sweaty Betty 8. I like it when a seller has a photo of the label so you can see for sure.
