Everyone talking behind my back at work

Treehouse00 · 29/06/2023 18:17

I work within a team but work on a one to one with a colleague. I have recently got a puppy and as it’s at the puppy stage I have been really more than tired more so at night time. The tiredness has been making me more dizzy than usual which I had to not go in to work today due to the dizziness. My work colleague who I work one to one with told me that everyone is talking at work about how I can’t cope with the puppy at night & how it’s making me so tired I can’t attend work. If anyone says anything to me tomorrow how should I reply back to them as I don’t think it’s right for them to judge me for being tired & not attending work today (just to add my work does not affect their work in any way)

Just to make it clear I have health issues - I am Anaemix and have to take iron tablets regularly

So you're tired and dizzy because you're anaemic?

Then make that clear to your colleagues

Why bring the puppy into the explanation?

You'll probably have colleagues who've gone to work dizzy with tiredness after being up with a sick child so they going to think you're a bit of a limp lettuce. You can't police people's thoughts, you can either change and be a bit more resilient with a stronger work ethic, or ignore it.
If their comments are persistent and cross the line into bullying you can report to your manager, as whatever they think of you, that's obviously not allowed.

This!

Oh! I know! I will mention that quite important thing I omitted from first posts to make them sound more ridiculous🤭 I am sure people will believe me."

WonderfulUsername · 29/06/2023 18:36

Who looks after the puppy when you're at work OP?

CheekyHobson · 29/06/2023 18:37

Your colleagues are right to think this is ridiculous because it is. And I say this as someone who is anemic and takes iron tablets, and who has also house-trained three puppies (two at the same time once!) while working.

How long is it taking, anyway? My dogs are generally house-trained within a fortnight.

The tiredness makes me feel dizzy in the morning but yes I didn’t call in sick to say I was tired from puppy I called in to say I was feeling very dizzy

But you are dizzy from being tired from the puppy.

Frankly I think that's pretty poor and would be miffed if I was your employer or someone having to pick up the slack due to your absence.

You're not covering yourself in glory.
You took the piss and your colleagues have called you out on it.

This is the most ridiculous excuse I have ever heard for not going to work.

Killingmytime · 29/06/2023 18:46

sorry, i take tablets for low iron, i have 3 kiitens currently.
They are keeping me up.
im going to work. I’d expect my ass handed to me if i called in sick due to this.
i don’t think it’s your colleagues in the wrong, they haven’t said anything that is untrue.

MrsPositivity1 · 29/06/2023 18:46

I’d be pretty annoyed at you too.

AngelinaFibres · 29/06/2023 18:47

I worked with a colleague who came back from a years maternity leave and announced on her first day back that she would be going home at lunchtime to check on her dog as it was expecting puppies. She didn't come back after lunch and took the following day off....because of her dog.

2bazookas · 29/06/2023 18:47

They aren't "judging you".

ITS A FACT you are too tired to perform normally at work and this is no doubt impacting their own working day.

Stop looking for anyone to blame/accuse, and get your act together.

So you have anemia? That bad if you don’t sleep, you get dizzy and then can’t do your normal every day tasks.

What exactly was the plan then for the puppy then? How did you expect to juggle it all?

I have iron deficiency anaemia too, and take iron tablets. If I ever felt dizzy I'd sit down for a bit and wait for the dizziness to subside. I can't imagine calling in sick because I felt dizzy.
