Everyone talking behind my back at work

Treehouse00 · 29/06/2023 18:17

I work within a team but work on a one to one with a colleague. I have recently got a puppy and as it’s at the puppy stage I have been really more than tired more so at night time. The tiredness has been making me more dizzy than usual which I had to not go in to work today due to the dizziness. My work colleague who I work one to one with told me that everyone is talking at work about how I can’t cope with the puppy at night & how it’s making me so tired I can’t attend work. If anyone says anything to me tomorrow how should I reply back to them as I don’t think it’s right for them to judge me for being tired & not attending work today (just to add my work does not affect their work in any way)

This thread has been a bit disappointing, it felt like one that could go on for ages and I was just settling down with some snacks.

Damnyouautocorrect1 · 29/06/2023 19:32

Never apologise, never explain 😁. Let them talk. I would be of the “they are talking anyway let me give them something to talk about” mindset.

Once you buy into giving a shit about how horrible people are being to you and defending yourself, you open yourself up to mental health problems. Better stick to thinking “how rude of them” and saving yourself the mh problems down the line 😁.

That’s not very supportive of them.

Treehouse00 · 29/06/2023 19:34

My work I do on a one to one with work colleague does not impact anyone else’s job in the room it’s is completely separate. I did not phone in to say I’m tired from being up at night I phoned in to say I was very dizzy as it is a ongoing problem for me & as eveyone knows I have a puppy they are putting it that I’m tired from the puppy - which ok I am cos I’m doing 95 per cent of the work with puppy but the tiredness & anaemia is contributing to the dizziness mainly due to me being the main one looking after puppy - popping in on my work break & at night times too

Yes thanks for that should I just ignore what they say then and say nothing tomorrow to them

If you anemia means you get that dizzy you can’t go to work when you don’t sleep, why you are you doing most of the night with a puppy?

Or why didn’t you take a few days annual leave?

Because no one including my husband want to do the night feeds I’m doing 95 per cent of all of it including morning, popping in on my lunch break when I can, after work and night feeds. I took annual leave 3 days last week for puppy

Not a good idea to get a puppy unless the whole family is onboard
Its tough to do it on your own - as you are finding

Ididntknowuntiliknew · 29/06/2023 19:59

Did your colleague have to do one-to-one by themselves? Wasn’t that difficult?

Night feeds? How old is this puppy? I have fostered entirely litters and not night fed them. Once weaned.

Did you husband not want the dog? I imagine no one wants to get up in the night, with a dog. Doesn’t mean you get to just not do it.

If you health is being impacted and no one else wants to care for the dog, the dog wasn’t a good idea

Singleandproud · 29/06/2023 20:01

So your colleagues are correct. You are having time off as you can't cope with the dog. Without the dog you wouldn't be so tired and therefore not dizzy. Your anaemia is neither here nor there its super common and you need to get it under control.

I bet several of your colleagues have children they've brought up while working and anaemic and looked after all night when they've been sick or doing night feeds and still gone into work.

You need to work on your assertiveness, not for your work colleagues but your husband who needs to step up assuming he also wanted the dog.

Me too

Whatkindofuckeryisthis · 29/06/2023 20:04

Night feeds? Is this a puppy or a child?!
When we got my poodle puppy she cried at night but we left her in her crate in the kitchen with the crate open and she would wee on the floor sometimes and basically cried a little for two nights or so, then was fine. Puppy’s don’t need feeding at night! Maybe letting out for a wee once maybe twice. Dizziness from anaemia fair enough get bloods, dizziness from tiredness you gotta suck it up and don’t have a baby as you’ll not sleep for at least four years!

So why are you up so much at night?

you have a dog and everyone else refuses to feed it? Even though it’s making you ill?

I really don’t think you should have got this dog. And your husband is a dick.

Which takes how long? 1 minute? You put food down, they eat?

how is that tiring?

That’s assuming the husband wanted a dog…..

True. Or even exists.

I can’t help wonder if op got the dog alone and it’s simply too much. And not fair on the dog. But isn’t going to admit that.

viques · 29/06/2023 20:20

Why do you need to go home on your break to feed the puppy? Surely the person who is at home looking after the puppy is feeding it , because that is part of the “looking after” that a very young puppy needs. Playing, taking out for wee breaks in the garden, cleaning up accidents, feeding….

AnxiousShep · 29/06/2023 20:20

How long is this puppy left on it’s own during the day?

MavisMcMinty · 29/06/2023 20:21

What on earth does your puppy do to keep you up all night? The dogs I’ve had were all house-trained - day and night - within a week or two. When my dog had pups, the ones we sold were house-trained by the time they left for their new homes at 8 weeks old!

MavisMcMinty · 29/06/2023 20:25

Poor pup. It really isn’t fair to take on a baby animal that you can’t be around for. It’s not too late to rehome it, and would be far better to do that now than in a few months when it hits adolescence and becomes a proper handful.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 29/06/2023 22:28

So the puppy is left all day apart from a quick visit at lunchtime? Poor puppy

how are you going to cope with adding in walks to your day?

JayAlfredPrufrock · 29/06/2023 22:35

Your poor bloody puppy.
