'Why celebrate your birthday?'
'I'd only go on an all accommodation and food paid wedding abroad on sufferance'

Yes, you might not like it, but other people might??

It's exhausting, I never know what crazy direction the comments will go in.

Sometimes everyone is jumping to diagnose the OP or whoever the thread is about with mental health issues and other times people are berated for even mentioning that a personal has MH.

There's also a real 'race to the bottom' mentality on a lot of threads.

The ones that irk me are the ones that are rude about beach holidays and esp AI's. It is not some form of moral degeneracy to enjoy a few days a year lolling on a sun lounger with a cocktail.

Yep. I have no shame in flopping by a pool for 8 hours a day and not moving.
Seems on here unless you’re spending every minute of your holiday hiking in the Himalayas or exploiting the local churches and eating street food with the locals then you’re a low rent heathen who shouldn’t be allowed a passport

And don’t forget the inevitable armchair diagnosis of ADHD, Autism or another form of Neurodivergent disorder to explain even the smallest quirk in someone’s behaviour

Yes, I rarely encounter such apparently miserable and misanthropic people in day to day life. I wonder if the anonymous nature of the forum just allows people to vent and, sometimes, be nasty.

pinguins · 29/06/2023 15:11

Yes I agree with that. There was a thread last week where a woman was genuinely distressed about the Titan sub (for whatever irrational reason... MH isn't logical) and the first response was "what about all the migrants, EH? EH?"
Then a pile-on of virtue-signallers also demanding to know why the poor OP's brain didn't seize on the migrants instead of the Titan to be upset about.

It's not a race to the bottom FGS. Both are tragic.

Sadly, the people who do this won't read this thread, or they'll read it and get defensive rather than taking on board that their way of communicating isn't very productive. It makes me wonder how some people get on at work or if there are a lot of very two-faced people out there.

Crikeyalmighty · 29/06/2023 15:14

I must admit at 61 I'm not fussed about birthdays and do like my space but I do still like 'fun' generally , am very honest that I like M&S for food and think it's not great to just rely on your H for company/entertainment (I've been there) im also taking father in law whose 83 on holiday abroad next week and also paying for son to come , (whose 25) you never know if FIL will get many more and son can't afford it.

I think tolerance is the biggie here. We are all different, no one is right or wrong really in so many aspects of life. The older you get the more you realise there are very many grey areas.

That's because they are normally waiting at home on the internet ready to try to make someone else's life shit, not out and about.

I find it entertaining. Especially in the summer, all the folks who get increasingly wound up if any of the neighbour's have the cheek to use their own garden or even worse have friends over to enjoy a summers day/evening. One wiff of a BBQ and they are rushing around slamming the windows shut whilst retching at the smell.

I wonder what the venn diagram would look like between these and the types that start bemoaning the hot weather once it gets to 14⁰C.

happyfoot · 29/06/2023 15:22

What gets me is the rage at anyone doing anything differently to them that doesnt affect them in any way. I posted once that I liked to take my xmas decorations down on boxing day and my lord, some of the responses were vicious. You'd have thought I just said I killed my dog! Such a ridiculous anger at such an insignificant thing

BridportSpectacular · 29/06/2023 15:24

I've been away on holiday with my husband's ex wife....it was fun.

As others have said, it’s the vehemence that surprises me. Do people actually enjoy feeling enraged about trivia? I wish I had that much energy!

Ha ha, yes! So much for Christmas as a time of peace and harmony.

Last Christmas I put my decorations up on Christmas Eve and took them down at Easter. I wonder what the perennially enraged would make of that.

crazyaboutcats · 29/06/2023 15:35

There some people on here who seem to have managed to whittle their lives down to their pension contribution and think that everyone else should too

Or the ones who make up random ridiculous scenarios just to ‘prove’ their point.

Like the thread is about people using laptops in a cafe or something and yet someone will end up inventing a ‘what if’ scenario involving brain surgery and Ghandi 🤣🤣

funinthesun19 · 29/06/2023 15:43

“Why take your two year old to the zoo/peppa pig land/farm/sea side/ feed the ducks/play centre anyway? He won’t even remember it!” 🤔

Omg I remember one thread about someone getting salmon on sale, and then other posters started berating OP because what if pensioners and underprivileged people needed the cheap salmon, and maybe they had been planning to buy it before OP essentially snatched it from their fingers 😂💀

PedalStool · 29/06/2023 15:49

I find it odd that just because someone posts about a situation you have not encountered, that does not mean that it didn’t happen to the OP. The immediate incredulity is strange.

People seem to struggle to see that other people can have a different way of doing things and that’s ok.

It is also all a bit worthy. Your kid gets punched in the face at soft play and you are meant to buy the other mum a coffee, and offer to babysit her child whilst she gets support for her MH.

The shopping with kids threads inspire so much outrage!
People swearing and typing in all caps because some families shop together rather than one person going in.
Do these people know we'll all be dead one day!

You don't need that apostrophe 😉

You should clarify that you mean the one on the title 😊😊

TheWalrusdidbeseech · 29/06/2023 15:53

People who have nothing better to do than being on an online forum during business hours, or evenings, or late a night, what do you expect? 😂
Of course that attracts A LOT of miserable people. It's easier to mock baby showers/ birthday parties/ AI holidays etc than admitting.. you have no one who invite you, or you bitterly resent anyone who has a couple of holidays abroad a year.

I find them very entertaining. It's a shame when they manage to bring down someone normal who is a bit down about their birthday.

I wouldn't go anywhere with my In-laws however.

BridportSpectacular · 29/06/2023 16:30

Yeah, I didn't need the apostrophe.

Brings me right back to the CoL threads where people were stressed about paying for ridiculous energy prices.

'Well when I grew up we had no central heating, everyone shared the bath water, a cold tin of soup fed a family of 4 for a week, we wore 10 layers to bed and slept under 4 blankets! People have it too easy these days!'

BodegaSushi · 29/06/2023 16:51

Not to mention the threads where posters fall over each other to be the least interested in anything or anyone liked by loads.

The Christmas ones:
'Am I the only one who doesn't do elf on the shelf?'

'Am I the only one who doesn't buy plastic tat for my kids?'

On a thread about good-looking actors: 'Oh god no I don't find Henry Cavill/Tom Hiddleston/Chris Hemsworth attractive AT ALL! 🤢 give me (insert plop of a man who looks like a toe) any day!'

Any TV show;
'No GoT in this house, only obscure Scandinavian drama will do'

This guy nails it vm.tiktok.com/ZGJXM8dKT/
