To want to escape the ghetto

I have name changed for this for obvious reasons.

I live in a part of London that has long resisted gentrification, and has a stubbornly high (and rising) crime rate. Stabbings, and even shootings, are far too common. Neighbours have witnessed shootings, with their children. The local secondaries are seen as finishing schools for criminals, with a lot of gang involvement, and knives carried around.

I really worry about my children when they reach secondary school age. I would sooner home school than send them to the local secondaries, but I don't have the ability to home school due to working. I work as a junior doctor, but the wages are low, especially for London.

Any suggestions for an area with decent schools that doesn't break the bank? I would need 4+ bedrooms. Even open to buying land and building, anything to escape.

One of these geniuses stabbed their friend, as you can see by the hobbling out in the video.

And people still don't want stop and search.. unfortunately without it a significant proportion of youths here carry around knives, machetes or worse.

N15,

'significant' youths carry them WITH stop and search.

What people don't want is the police to be able to stop and search anyone even without reasonable suspicion, which is the power the police have now.

Let's say this was not something that devastated the lives of many black people, especially black males in the UK, but instead there was massive prejudice against girls wearing their hair in one ponytail, casually tied at the back, a white second hand t shirt, no make up, and baby faced - let's say Greta Thunberg. And that the police could stop them at will, with no reasonable suspicion, search them and if they found anything that could be used sharply, let's say tweezers, they were arrested, went to court and convicted. Just loads of young white British girls every single day, unable to go out to play, unable to walk home, unable to have a party, unable to go to work on time, or travel to an exam on time etc etc, because the police are crawling all over them from the age of 9 years old, would you talk like this?

I've watched this thread and until now, I have thought that you have been given a hard time, but now like many others I'm scared you are my GP or my GP is like you.

Bloody scary.

What you have said is so prejudiced, it's upsetting.

Lots of batshitcrazy Tory MPs are standing down at the next election. With your views you can easily get a seat in a little hamlet and leave us in London the hell alone. New job, new life.

@n15 I do totally understand how you feel by the way - I think it's a case of compromise on the house or a particular school - - as others have said it's not always as simple as moving elsewhere because of commuting costs unless you drive in or switch hospitals -

Don't worry, I'm not a GP.. You can make whatever judgments you like, I don't care.

Honestly, most people here would like stop and search to be brought back, to reduce carrying of weapons, which includes guns. Knife and gun crime is spiralling out of control. It's nothing to do with prejudice, just with safety. There are a people from minority communities making calls for more to be done about knife crime and the gang warfare that goes with it. They don't want their children dying.

You can moralise all you like, while having no idea what life is like for people in deprived areas.

Indeed, I do think why not just kick it all in and go somewhere far flung and not work, because I would probably be better off doing that given my salary, and the cost of childcare, commuting and living near work. But I do feel a sense of duty to serve the community.

Oh wow.

Your ignorance and prejudice knows no bounds.

I am a proud black woman, with beautiful black children, my family is from the Caribbean, I run a private clinic for black women and mental health, and I speak Patois in my head all day long. The debris form Grenfell landed in my kids' school playground. You clearly have no insight into the lives of people like me, and you certainly don't speak for 'most' of anyone, except the people I mentioned in my last post, whom I do hope you go and join.

I live in zone 2 of NW London, I was born in Harlesden and most of my family still live there, I do not want stop and search extended. I do want my brother to stop being searched on his way to work because his boss and is sick of it and he has never carried a gun or a knife. You don't know people like us though, you just assume things about us when you see us and you get scared and literally run away.

You want human rights curtailed. Yuk, yuk, yuk.

Your comments are disgusting. I'm punching down even writing this.

Please don't stop your search for a new locale, do do go. See ya!

I'm glad you aren't GP I hope you have no power over the lives or wellbeing of anyone. You would not be a good custodian in my opinion.

Stop being anonymous, give me your name, and I will make a complaint against you, and let's see how many people 'agree' with you.

If this were guess who, I would seriously ask - are you Jeremy Clarkson? David Starkey? Le Pen?

The issue is not with people wanting stop and search, we SHOULD have stop and search, the issue is with the police that are racist and will stop people that are obviously law abiding and going about their own business for no good reason.

A man going to work at 8am and a roadman youte on road at 10pm are obviously very different, and anyone with eyes can see the difference.

The police just need to leave normal people alone unless they are acting suspiciously.

Absolutely, we need smart policing. Sadly, with reduced funding it feels like we have no policing currently.
