Sports club keeps using my address

TeddySunflowers · 28/06/2023 09:23

Help! There's a sport club near my house, they have a building in an field nearby and I guess my house is the closest to it.

They keep using my address for all their deliveries and pick ups to the point now where I'm getting delivery people knocking on my door every morning sometimes twice a day and it's becoming really invasive and stressful because it's constantly disturbing my day, quite often they come early and wake me up, or hammer on the door while I'm in a meeting, and when I explain that I'm not the sports club and they've used my address without my permission, they argue with me as if I'm wrong! Then insist on showing me the order with my address on it as if that'll somehow convince me I'm not standing in my own home. It never used to be this bad and I used to try and be helpful when I first moved in but after accepting a parcel for them they turned up and we're immensely rude and I decided screw that I've just done them a favour for no reason. So I don't accept parcels, I don't even redirect the drivers any more in hope that it would deter the club from using my address but they still do it.

I know it's not the fault of the delivery person but I am slowly losing my patience with it. We've told the club to stop I've also contacted the delivery company to tell them to stop but it makes no difference. I don't know what else to do 😫 hellpp!

What a wally you are OP for taking it. You’re making this more difficult than it needs to be, just refuse to accept the parcels. You’re making this a problem for yourself when you can wash your hands of all the drama by just saying no 😂

Brefugee · 14/07/2023 15:00

there is a really good way of stopping it. And that is as countless posters have said: simply refuse to take them.

Put a sign on your door saying not to ring if it is for the club, because you won't take it and they are wasting their and your time. If a courier / postie does ring and it's for them: call their company and tell them that you will start billing them for half an hour of your time each time you come to the door and it is not for you.

Taking in the parcels at all sends totally the wrong message

dutchyoriginal · 14/07/2023 14:32

would it be ok to just leave them outside in the garden near your hedge or something? Any (lots of!) rain predicted where you are?

No, because now she has accepted the parcel she has a duty of care towards it unfortunately.

Best thing OP can do now is make it VERY difficult for it to be collected. I'd be holding it for at least a week or two.

LlynTegid · 14/07/2023 17:03

Have they got a tournament you could disrupt? Just turn up and sit with the the parcel on the green, refuse to move until the club president turns up with ID?

Update: not heard anything from the fraud action report that I made and things went quiet for a week. But this morning I had another parcel 😤 so I've taken it and I'm going out for the day and won't be here all weekend. 😂 So taking some of your advice to make things difficult for them every time they send something to my house! This one came from DPD, and the delivery guy looked a little bit like Pedro Pascal.
Does anyone know if it is legal to charge a daily parcel handling fee? 😂

Why on earth did you accept it 🤦🏻‍♀️

I think you should insist on photo ID and only the club president visit you to hand over the parcel.

Yes!

"I'm sorry, you could be anyone. Come back with your passport and a utility bill."

Then go out.

Love it!

Why did you accept it? You're just inflating the drama now.

VisionsOfSplendour · 14/07/2023 17:17

Why on Earth did you take it in? Why make a problem when you could have simply said thats not for me and the driver would have taken it away

Billybagpuss · 14/07/2023 17:17

So when they come to collect ask them why they think it’s ok to use your address? If they are rude refuse to engage and close the door on them. Without handing over the parcel.

I just don't understand why you would do this when so many posters have explained that the way to stop this is simply to refuse any parcels that arrive.

It just looks like you are enjoying the drama now.

Parisj · 14/07/2023 17:28

I would actually speak to my local councillor about this, they might know the club and help you.
I'd send a cease and desist letter explaining their mistake.
And I would post to local social media or preferably on their own page (politely).
And I would print out a message for delivery drivers explaining you know it's not their fault but you have no connection with the club and can't help them as to where it is. Then just hand that over with a smile, save yourself aggro.

Emotionalsupportviper · 14/07/2023 17:34

Namechangeforanamechange · 14/07/2023 11:19

I believe you would need to inform the club first that if they continue to use your address for deliveries/on their website, you will charge them x amount for the service/storage. You can't just hold the parcel to ransom! 😂

I think it's probably as Namechange has said - but once you've told hemI;'m sure you can charge a "bailment" fee. As I said before- I did A level law a little over 50 years ago so am sh!t hot not totally reliable on these matters. The danger in saying that you want £x/day is that they might be prepared to pay it to save themselves the trouble, and may then claim that you have a contract or something.

But certainly make it difficult for them to collect it, Insist on the club president; insist on identification; insist that they come at a time convenient to you.

Whatever time they come to collect it, make sure they know it's inconvenient for you (or just don't answer the door - make them com back three or four times. If they are rude, shut the door on them (If you can, record all conversations on your phone, and do it openly, so that you have a record of you saying "As I have told your president/ secretary/ manager a number of times, I am not a delivery service and I will not take in any more parcels. I am going to refuse delivery from now on - the only reason I took this one was so that I could tell you this and make sure that you were aware that I will not take any parcels in, nor take any responsibility for anything left outside my home, in my garden, in a shed, or anywhere else on my property. If anything is stolen or damaged, it's on you".

Have you tried asking in "Legal"? They will be able to offer much better advice.

I really think that when you have made your displeasure felt in the ways detailed above, tell then you are not taking in any more parcels as you refuse to accept responsibility. There is always a chance that some driver will leave a parcel if you aren't in to take in. All I can suggest then is that you contact the whoever sent it and tell them it's been left at the wrong address and can they arrange for collection.

This is a real pain in the backside, but if you continue to accept parcels, they will continue to use your address.

If you had read the OP you would know she has tried not accepting parcels and it didn't stop it.

Lipolass · 14/07/2023 17:42

I don’t understand why you are taking in the parcels. Don’t accept them and return to sender - they’ll stop then!

So she can not accept then and maybe they'll stop, maybe they won't but its done each time or she can accept them with the consequent hassle and annoyance every time and they certainly wont stop

I know which one I'd do, would you really keep on taking them in and fuming about it?

QueenOfThe20StoneAge · 14/07/2023 17:45

It was the sheer bloody bad manners of the twat that came to collect the first parcel that left me speechless. I wouldn't accept anything for them, full stop. Would feel bad for the delivery driver but there's no way I'd be giving any jumped up, snooty, arrogant little posh boys the opportunity to bark their orders at me.

red78hot · 14/07/2023 17:50

I think I'd be starting to damage the parcels.

Blobblobblob · 14/07/2023 17:51

Have you tried this?

Go to order something online and try to put their address in instead of your own, to see if it comes up as an option?

I'm not suggesting that you place the order, just see if the address is an option.

The reason for suggesting this is that if the address does not appear in the official reference data, there may be something dodgy going on... For example I once lived in a flat where the building had been illegally divided. I could not order anything online to Flat A, or 43A, only to 43 which meant all my post went through the wrong door.

You have to ask yourself why they would inconvenience themselves like this. I bet anything you like it's because something shady in the background - it's not an official address on the official database that these companies use for a reason.

finewelshcheese · 14/07/2023 18:09

Does it have the club name on the parcels?

okiedokie1 · 14/07/2023 18:42

Surely if you aren't accepting the parcels and you are not redirecting them then the club isn't getting their parcels. Doesn't this make them stop using your address?

okiedokie1 · 14/07/2023 18:52

When they gone around to collect it, don't answer the door. Make it ridiculous difficult for them. If you answer the door, ask them to wait and then shut the door and make yourself a cup of tea. When they start banging on the door, ignore it. Eventually if you do answer after a long time, say you had to answer the phone. Then shut the door and repeat. Then eventually tell them your dh/dd whoever, must have moved it and they'll have to come back tomorrow. If they are rude then tell them to fuck off and stop using your address and shut the door. Film it all. And film them until they leave your property

Do it!

Write to them and inform them for each parcel you take temporary possession of for them, you require a £20 release fee. Cash only

Soapyspuds · 14/07/2023 19:49

Also people saying to keep the parcels / sell them on eBay. This would literally be a crime and I’m fairly sure the OP doesn’t want a criminal record

But they have her address on them. I doubt the police are going to give many shits about this sort of thing.

Not suggesting selling them but claiming you did not get them then finding them a few weeks later, use them as a football, leave them in the pissing rain for a while are all thing I might do.

Depends on the value. If the police are told the OP has deliberately taken in and kept thousands of tens of thousands of pounds of goods due to a website error, I think they could become interested pretty quick.
