What did you last but someone flowers for?

Not included is mother day / birthday / get well soon

When did you last buy someone flowers for a reason that may not be considered the norm. (As above)

I received flowers as they were intended for someone else at a hobby but they didn't show. I was still grateful for them as the person could have taken them home for themselves.

I bought someone flowers recently to show gratitude for a selfless act they did which benefited our family.

I got given some flowers by a friend for helping in a medical situation.

I bought a friend a bottle of drink for helping me in a medical situation with my child ❤️

LadyDanburysHat · 28/06/2023 10:16

I bought some for DD after her dance show a couple of weeks ago.

ShakeYourFeathers · 28/06/2023 10:19

BFs Dm fas a thank you for having us round for Sunday lunch

wonkylegs · 28/06/2023 10:22

I buy mum flowers every week or bring her ones from my garden. She's in a care home with late stage Alzheimer's. There's not many things in this world that bring her joy any more but she likes the flowers so I bring them for her and will do until she's no longer with us.

SnoringPains · 28/06/2023 10:22

I bought flowers for a friend on her babies first birthday, to celebrate her getting through the tough first year. I buy my mum tulips every week as they’re her favourite flowers.

BlockbusterVideoCard · 28/06/2023 10:46

For my daughter, who was having a tough time but not in a Get Well Soon way.

I also get them for her birthday sometimes as well as her present. I know she actively enjoys receiving flowers. We live far apart.

I quite often send them for new babies, but a few weeks later, when other flowers and gifts and fuss might have died (down). Or weddings or hen dos that I can't attend. But again, in advance or just afterwards, not on the day as that doesn't work.

A couple of weeks ago for the GP receptionist who went above and beyond her role to ensure that a new prescription was sent in time for an abroad holiday.
The prescription had been put in on time but only when I went to collect was I told there is a supply issue and no pharmacies had it!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 28/06/2023 10:54

I bought my neighbour flowers because she fed our cat when we were away. I also bought her a hyacinth pot back at new year because we had both been moaning about the weather and the dark, so when I spotted them in M&S I got one for both of us. She was so pleased it was £5 brilliantly spent!

Mischance · 28/06/2023 10:56

Last week - to a neighbour for watering my flowers while I was away - it seemed an appropriate gift!

TheFrogAteMyHomework · 28/06/2023 11:00

A bereavement.

Before that... Can't remember the last time I bought flowers as they're a luxury (except perhaps a bunch of daffodils in spring). But I think it's hard to find anything else that says "I'm thinking of you" when someone loses a parent and you're not close enough to go and help out with something.

Mosavian · 28/06/2023 11:00

I bought my ex best friend flowers about 4 years ago and she gave them to her mum. They were from a florist and delivered by them so not a shop bunch. I knew that she’d given them to her mum as an F U kind of thing as there’d been a bit of stress between us. It made me really upset as they weren’t cheap and it wiped my spends out but I felt she deserved them. Every time I drove past her mums I could see those flowers in the window and I vowed never to buy anyone flowers ever again as it was obviously a worthless gesture. It makes me sad to this day, I hate to say.

DilemmaDelilah · 28/06/2023 11:03

To my sisters, a few months ago - just because I don't see them very often.

hattie43 · 28/06/2023 11:05

6 weeks ago following a bereavement

kikedog · 28/06/2023 11:08

I bought flowers for my friend who looked after my dog when I had to go to a wedding. She wont take money

mast0650 · 28/06/2023 11:09

I very often take someone a bunch of flowers when I go to their home. Rarely for other reasons tbh! They are usually from our garden. Last time was for the friend hosting booking club a couple of weeks ago, which was a little ott to be honest, but DH was just picking flowers for our table and saying how many there were to choose from, so I suggested he pick some more for my friend. We have flowers/greenery from the garden in our house and on the outside table all through spring/summer. I'm less likely to take flowers to someone who I know has a garden with lots of flowers themselves.

Catsmere · 28/06/2023 12:36

I've never bought flowers. Was never a thing among my friends. Someone gave me a bunch recently - so embarrassing, I didn't want them, have nowhere to put them (no surface space and no vases) and with two cats, I won't risk having unknown and possibly toxic plants in the house.

SallyWD · 28/06/2023 12:41

For my neighbour for feeding our cat

tobee · 28/06/2023 14:10

For a friend who's dog had died. Actually it was a plant. Does that count?

Actual flowers - my dsis birthday.

Both in last month.

OneTC · 28/06/2023 14:18

I have never bought flowers in my life.

I have given some plants though, last one was probably for my mum and she probably threw it away the next day

WoofWoofBeachLife · 28/06/2023 14:37

I bought my wee MIL some flowers on Saturday just because she's amazing. I also made up a little bag with her favourite chocolate and the squashies she loves. We get her flowers whenever we have some extra cash.

JulieHoney · 28/06/2023 15:03

I invited some friends over for coffee and cake and one of them brought me a big bunch of sweet william from M&S, which was lovely. They are my Dad’s favourite so make me think of him.

A month ago I invited another friend for lunch and she brought me a gorgeous bunch of late tulips; they were sunshine in a vase.

I grow flowers for the house and frequently pick a bouquet for my friends and neighbours. Fresh flowers really cheer a room up. At the moment it’s mostly sweet peas and roses - such wonderful scents!

I don't really get flowers. They're like cards, they just seem pointless to me. What am I meant to do with them? Then they get thrown away in a matter of days. I've never bought flowers for anyone nor wanted to receive them myself. I did buy DP some chilli plants one year though.

Preferred gifts in my book are food and drink. If I get flowers I have to remember to do the whole fake smile bit, if I get wine or cheese or cake I'm in genuine raptures.

They’re meant to bring colour and beauty into your room, and ideally smell lovely too. Something nice to look at while they last, and know someone is thinking of you.

Nussbaum · 28/06/2023 15:06

I sent some to my mum a few days ago, simply because she's my mum and I don't get to see her very often.

IheardYouButDontWantToAnswer · 28/06/2023 15:07

Yesterday, for my daughter-in-law, as she'd just had our lovely granddaughter. I bought her some chocolates, too

LunaTheCat · 28/06/2023 15:14

This thread has just reminded me to send flowers to a special auntie.
