To take my daughter to a rock concert?

Needs to be a quick one as buying tickets tomorrow. Massive Foo fighters fan…daughter desperately wants to come too…. She would be 12. Venue is London Stadium. Several reservations as worried about crowds, drunk people getting out and back to train. Also we’d have to be seated as no under 14s in standing. From a selfish point of view it was always planned as an ‘adult’ night out…. Few drinks… as close to the front as possible… obviously evening will be a different vibe and I will be very sober on mum duty and high alert. Is it safe enough to take her? Is the atmosphere as good in seated? She’s as big a fan as me….General consensus???

Take her, it will be a formative memory for her, on of those things you look back on at 90 and think "That was fucking fantastic"

And if it really is a bucket list item for her, then imagine if Dave Grohl dropped dead next year. That would also be a formative memory for her.

I'm taking my two to see blur at wembley in a few weeks and they're 12 and 7. We're seated so it will be fine and have parking booked so no need to get train. Just make sure you plan I guess.
I took my 12 year old to see pink on Saturday and we both had beer poured over us so not just rock concerts!

PositiveLife · 27/06/2023 19:22

Take her. I've been taking mine since she was about 7. We usually do one gig a year.

I had it poured over me at Backstreet Boys, also a woman screamed in my face at George Ezra!
Weird people even at naf shows that I still love

People were animals on Saturday.

DD is a drummer and never got to see Taylor Hawkins live. It’s costing me a fortune but I resolved never to let a gig of someone I or she loves pass me by.

Do it we took dc to their first gig last November, smaller venue but seated they were 8&10. Saff were great offering ear plugs, we had brought defenders, but it was great, dc loved it. Only issue is dc want to come to every gig with us now. Which is great but I do enjoy the adult time and having a few drinks etc.

Our next gig is standing only, so dc are not allowed. 😉

When you leave the London stadium for the train or Underground you go via a detour along a narrowish passage. I'm OK with it but I don't know if everyone would be.

Wembley Stadium is very different for leaving to get the Underground so no guide.

Think 12 plus just about ok. Was judging some parents pretty hard at a festival i went to recently. Young kids up late at night looking pale and exhausted flopping anround obviously desperate for bed amongst drunk stoned adults. Don’t know what the fuck they thought they were doing frankly.

Fourfurrymonsters · 27/06/2023 19:36

We took our son to his first gig - Muse - 8 years ago when he was 12, in the O2 arena in London (travelled from Scotland and did a few days family sightseeing, also had daughter 16 with us ). It was an incredible indoctrination into music gigs for him, his eyes were like saucers all the way through. One of the best memories was having to get the Tube back from Greenwich afterwards, along with thousands of Muse fans all piled into the carriages and everyone singing at the tops of their voices. It was magical.
Weirdly, he’s just left tonight to travel to Rock Werchtner in Belgium where Muse are headlining Saturday - we also had a family day out last Friday to see them in glasgow. That one night when he was 12 sparked a huge interest in live music for him and he’s been to tons of gigs since. Take your daughter and enjoy!

Yes do it, I remember going to see Greenday with my dad when I was 11 then Foos the year after, she'll love it.

LibbyL92 · 27/06/2023 19:49

Go for it! Loads of younger kids at gigs.

Dreamlight · 27/06/2023 19:56

Do it! My DS first big gig was ACDC at Wembley for his 11th birthday, he loved it😁

Absolutely make sure that she's got ear defenders, but other than that go and enjoy.

IJustHadToLookHavingReadTheBook · 27/06/2023 20:06

They're hardly Anthrax are they, it's going to be one of the tamer "rock" gigs out there full of very middle class folk being civilised and politely getting back on the tube after... I don't even see why you cant have a few beers if you fancy it.

jfshu · 27/06/2023 20:06

Took ours aged 12 and 9, they loved, didn't occur to me not to.

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 27/06/2023 20:10

I would say go for it too, seating will be fine. Good luck, I've got a presale code and going to attempt to get tickets for Brum tomorrow 🤞

mewkins · 27/06/2023 20:13

Yes you'll be fine, especially seated! Also much easier to get on train from London stadium than Wembley where you stand for ages trying to get on the platform.

I went to the TH tribute at Wembley and generally not too bad for pissed up people in standing.

Supertayto · 27/06/2023 20:13

Might be controversial, but whenever I’ve been to massive gigs I’ve always started to edge towards the doors during the last bit of the set and legged it as soon as it’s done. Even a 30 second head start makes a difference!

Alarae · 27/06/2023 20:32

I've always found rock/metal concerts to actually be much more protective than your generic ones! I'm only 5'3 and I've often had larger men effectively shielding me from any nonsense nearby.

There is a sense of community in those types of concerts and you are only involved in the mosh pits if you are a willing participant, otherwise for the most part you will be shielded.

I can't wait until my daughter is older and we can start attending music concerts. You make such unbelievable memories.

Lozziem82 · 27/06/2023 20:32

Hey! Just curious if it was a similar gig? My daughter will be 5 and has loved Foos since she was a baby, their music is the only thing to calm her when she’s upset.
I really, really want to take her to Cardiff next year but she’ll be slightly younger than the age restriction. Do they enforce this? Do you think I should still take her?
She’s buzzing knowing they’re coming for a tour and still demanding their Glasto set be played on iplayer after school 😂

Lozziem82 · 27/06/2023 20:34

Sorry, my above message was in response to the lady who took her 3 year old a concert

StonwEd · 27/06/2023 20:36

Took ds 23 when he was 11 to mk bowl. It was hot, there was drinking, it was mad but we were a big group who looked after him. Even now he says it was one of the best days of his life 🤟
we’re hoping for Manchester tickets, will be my 23rd time seeing them ❤️❤️❤️

StonwEd · 27/06/2023 20:39

Also he’s so so grateful he got to see Taylor live, we went again a few years later so he’s seen him twice! When Taylor died he thanked me for taking him - agree with previous poster, life’s too short!

I have a friend who is a steward at the stadium. I can ask if they check ages for you if you like.

My daughter is desperate for time travel to become a reality. :-(
