To ask for your best side hustles?

I’m 21 and working 40 hours per week in hospitality. As you can imagine this isn’t exactly bringing in mega money. I live in a flat-share and the bank of mum and dad is shut. Overall I’m just about covering my expenses but I want to make a bit of extra money on the side. So Aibu to ask for your side hustles, second job ideas, ways of making money online etc?

Thanks for this. I've just applied to join through facebook. I've just started writing a book, so it will be good to find out more.

OP, a few years ago I was exactly in your shoes. Hospitality was slowly draining the life out of me even though I was on a not too bad salary.

Is hospitality what you want to do “when you grow up”? If so, you need to find ways to improve your earnings - promotion? Checking what competition has to offer? Hospitality imho is a tough business and working a 40 hour week and a hustling on the side on top of it might become quite hard to maintain over time.

If you don’t want to stay in hospitality long term, start thinking what industry would be of interest. There are a lot of transferable skills in hospitality. I chose an industry I was interested in, successfully applied for a not very fancy customer service job and got my foot in the door that way. I worked my arse off, my employer paid for all my qualifications and in 5 years I completely turned my career around.

I've got one, but I don't want to to share sorry. Good luck and you need to work hard at it.

This is the best and worst reply I've seen on Mumsnet GrinGrinGrin

Gettingfleeced · 28/06/2023 12:22

@Sidehustelesplea , do you want to stay in hospitality? If so, I'd recommend moving around to different companies while you're young. Pay jumps are quicker going from company to company (usually). Staying in one place means wages tend to be stagnant.

Are there any training courses you can do to progress careerwise? If so, in the long run, your evenings are probably better spent studying towards that rather than doing side hustles.

If you don't want to stay in hospitality, your evenings are probably better spent applying for new roles so you can get onto a career ladder you want to climb.

So why come on here and tell us that ? Massively useless addition to the thread

It's not a side hustle but I've discovered a way of making survey money quickly and easily on Attapoll and cashing out through Revolut and getting their rewards.
Sign up to Attapoll and start doing the surveys.
Create a Revolut account- do a google search to get a link that will give you £20 free promo code.
The cash out from Attapoll to Revolut is low at £2.50, you can make this per day with not too much effort. Once you've done this a couple of times, start spending using the Revolut card. They will send you offers for free £10 bonuses if you spend every day for 3 days within a week. There is no minimum spend, so I would buy a bottle of water on 3 consecutive days using the survey money I'd made- and kaching , a free £10 reward! :) This has happened 3 times in the last month!!
I have made £50 through Revolut and roughly £20 of money through Attapoll with not much effort at all.
It'd been a godsend to me and I've spent it on food and fuel!

I'm a Clairvoyant/ Medium/ Tarot reader but not practicing.
Is it something you're interested in?
Spiritualist churches have free development classes.
Tarot can be learnt by almost anyone and it's using your 6th sense and practicing and practicing.. practice for free on friends and family..

Then start charging once you have developed and have confidence . Do some research on line.. visit readers?
Average price you charge for a reading is £25 to £40.

So basically being a clairvoyant has nothing to do with having ‘the gift’ rather just taking a few classes? Definitely ethical

Joining an MLM isn't going to help anyone who is already grafting for 40 hours a week on minimum wage.

Why bother commenting??

YeahIsaidit · 29/06/2023 10:57

To those saying skill up. That isn't easy when you're living month to month as a lot of courses, even online ones can cost quite a lot. I have been looking at courses at my local college and a lot of them are over £1000 just to enrol without extra equipment that may be needed on top. I don't have that kind of money spare

Why bother taking a course when bullshitting people is free?

Very true, you can exploit grieving people without wasting your time with a course

The gov is running skills bootcamps at the moment which are free. There's also usually a free adult education service run by councils.

deepfriedwithapple · 29/06/2023 11:49

I've got the option to do a 4 week temp cleaning job in the eves (on top of FT job). It's local, 3 hours a night weekdays. I will get paid £500 for the 4 weeks.

Thoughts ? I don't want to do it but I do want the money

How fit are you? Professional cleaners need to work fast and 3 hours on your feet every night might be exhausting. However only for 4 weeks so is it worth being knackered for the extra cash?

deepfriedwithapple · 29/06/2023 12:04

@LivingDeadGirlUK I am reasonably fit and have done cleaning before. I am confident I can cope with this. The only issue I have is that I love my friday nights and I would have to give these up, but only for 4 weeks. The job is until 8.30/9pm every weekday

R232 · 29/06/2023 12:04

I’m just wondered where I can apply for one of these? What do I search/are there any companies that spring to mind?

That's low pay. Works out at £25 for 3 hours. Most cleaners get at least £10-15ph these days. Don't do it for less than £30 per shift.
