And that Heinz should be above gimmicky fads and think about the environmental consequences. Harumph

It's just not bloody on!

DH agrees with you but I'm a micro-chick, sorry.

moodymammy · 22/02/2008 23:33

yes yabu. what difference does it make?

Sarahjct · 22/02/2008 23:34

Oh no, YA definitely BU! I luurve the pots even though I don't really eat baked beans but DH does. I'm so enamoured with them that I just bought spaghetti hoops in snap pots as well this week and I don't eat those either.

Sod the environment, I'm fed up with hearing about it. I'm increasing my carbon footprint to compensate for other people.

Beans in plastic forever!

fingerwoman · 22/02/2008 23:35

I actually kind of agree.
our council won't take that kind of plastic for recycling and I think all big companies should be being more environmentally aware

Psychomum5 · 22/02/2008 23:35

and where is it that they come in tubs?????

TBH....I would buy them in micro tubs if the same tubs are recyclable the same as tin....what difference would it make?

MrsJackJohnson · 22/02/2008 23:35

i think they should ban those disgusting things!

ok, can you imagine cooking this for your children

beans plus tomatoes plus SUGAR

Crapity crapity crap..

meandboys · 22/02/2008 23:37

i think the plastic tubs are a complete waist of money!

Make a bigger plastic tub and charge the same, or less so everyone is into this enviromental friendly cr*p (as you can guess i am getting fed up with the government going on about it now!)

Heinz should be banned from selling them like this, they are just earning MORE money from it

moodymammy · 22/02/2008 23:39

calm down its just baked beans

fingerwoman · 22/02/2008 23:42

but the tubs aren't recyclable in most places.
a lot of councils won't take plastics like that because of contamination from food, and the cost of paying people to sort the plastics and the difficulty selling it on.

PollyPentapeptide · 22/02/2008 23:47

Exactly! (fingerwoman) To me Heinz baked beans were a wholesome meal that we enjoyed as children when you had been playing out all day with scrapped knees and a runny nose and a lung full of fresh air but they came in TINS not bloody plastic!!!

You would expect it from some companies but not Heinz!

You can't microwave a tin though...

Sarahjct · 22/02/2008 23:50

Tins are dangerous - you can get a nasty cut from one of those...

expatinscotland · 22/02/2008 23:51

i am cringing for the day DD1 wants to buy those microwavable things, especially because she hasn't twigged that everytime i serve her those reduced salt baked beans i have jazzed them up with cumin, mustard powder (see my 'spicy baked beans' recipe in a 'What to feed a vegan for lunch' thread last month) and hidden veg onion and peppers.

Psychomum5 · 22/02/2008 23:54

you know what, sugar ignored, BAKED BEANS on toast is one of the best meals for kiddies......as told to me by my dietition for allergic and aenimic (sp?) kiddies!!!!

add grated cheese and ham, and for a meal, you need nothing else!!!!

and it is such an easy meal too, and one guaranteed that my kiddies will eat!

if at all shocked by baked beans, they are fairly easy to make, AFAIK....not that I have tried as tinned ones are great!

MrsJackJohnson · 22/02/2008 23:57

iMO they are just disgusting... it is an easy meal but you are giving sugar to your kids as a main mea. truly yuck!

it is much nicer to cook some beans and do a yummy tomato sauce!

Ah, back to the plastic packaging...an utterly disgraced.. hope that mothers out there boycott them!

LadyOfWaffle · 23/02/2008 00:05

is there more sugar in these than the tins then?

ratbunny · 23/02/2008 00:05

yanbu plastic packaging on beans is a disgrace. just like the plastic packaging on those bloody dairylea lunchables and the like - no thought about the environmental consequences.

and as for sugar - I tend to put a bit into my tomato sauces anyway...

Psychomum5 · 23/02/2008 00:14

but why is sugar such a heinous thing to give to children???

ok, so pure refined sugar is something i try to avoid at certain points (ie, sweeties, sugar on cereal, cotton candy), but in products shouldn;t be a bad bad thing.....especially if the choice is between sugar and sweeteners!

I think that there are many many things we mums get all holier than vow over tho, and sugar is not one of mine, but I accept it is one of yours!

each to their own IMO

apart from anything else tho, and just as a comment from me rather than something to make a point about........the worst type of sugar for kiddies for their teeth is from condensed fruit sugar. toffee is bad to give to kiddies, raisin's are worse. now, that was advice given by my dentist, so by all means not general advice, but all the same, one I have listened to! mind you, that doesn't mean I give toffee........I think the only time they have had it is at xmas as one of those selection boxes my SIL gives, ot in the selection tins we always recieve from MIL!

expatinscotland · 23/02/2008 00:19

it's the salt, psycho.

it is seriously contributing to obesity probs here.

ViolentFemme · 23/02/2008 00:20

what psychomum said

Psychomum5 · 23/02/2008 00:22

ahh....so I can give suger, but salt I must avoid????

tis ok then....I already avoid salt, and my kiddies find it a huge treat if I allow them salt on their chips!!!!

I am fine

Psychomum5 · 23/02/2008 00:24

oh god, I sound an awful mum!!!

they only have chips once a week, after ballet and footy, as I am then too lazy knackered to cook from scratch!

ViolentFemme · 23/02/2008 00:26

Agree expat but there are a million things causing obesity problems here in WoS and in Uk as a whole...

Fags
Booze
Fried Food
Zero exercise
et al

I's rather feed my children micro-beans than dairylea dunkers or a fish supper.

ViolentFemme · 23/02/2008 00:30

Psychomum5, you are not an awful mum. I do agree with you.
