So are these school shoes or trainers

School have published their amended policy from Sept. This style is showed as unacceptable as they apparently trainers.

Er no they are school shoes and they
are the ONLY ones that fit my wide footed , high instep child. Believe me we’ve tried and tried over the years. They are just like me unfortunately. Plus sensory issues too.

School shoes must also be black and of polishable leather (they are!)

School refusing to budge. In fact the teacher dealing with uniform is being very rude and obstructive.

So Mumsnet are these shoes or trainers.

You forgot the image….

steff13 · 24/06/2023 07:06

I don't think there's enough information for me to decide.

They’re trainers, just black ones. The school is right and YABU.

Those are shoes not trainers, in my opinion.

Newmumatlast · 24/06/2023 07:08

Definitely shoes as the shoe shop says too

SeeingSpots · 24/06/2023 07:08

What is their rational for saying they are trainers, they look like big standard school shoes. Do they have pictures to show what they deem acceptable because I've taught in hundreds of schools and shoes like that are what most boys would be wearing.

Patchworksack · 24/06/2023 07:08

Those are shoes. What would make them trainers? The Velcro straps?

Emanresu9 · 24/06/2023 07:08

Of course they are school shoes!!

Eomt · 24/06/2023 07:08

The description calls them school shoes, so they must be shoes! They look tidy and practical to me.

Vettrianofan · 24/06/2023 07:08

Those are shoes. Lovely school shoes.

AndAllOurYesterdays · 24/06/2023 07:08

School shoes

cantcopenow · 24/06/2023 07:09

Well, Clarks says they’re school shoes.

steff13 · 24/06/2023 07:09

I personally think they're fine to wear with a school uniform, however, I think the sole makes them tennis shoes.

luckylavender · 24/06/2023 07:09

Trainers for me

Whatthediddlyfeck · 24/06/2023 07:11

I’ve wondered for years What gives a school the right to dictate footwear to this degree and why do parents tolerate this nonsense?

Shoesortrainers · 24/06/2023 07:11

I’ll anonymise the communication they sent out which has suitable styles depicted and quite frankly are not shoes that are sturdy practical or comfortable for 2 mile walks and growing feet. Little pumps.

This is secondary school btw.

Shoes. All the boys in DDs class wear similar.

How old is your DC? Are they expecting laces?

LolaSmiles · 24/06/2023 07:12

Look like school shoes for me that are common in primary school. It wouldn't surprise me if they're too close to trainers for some secondary schools though.

Eomt

On a tangent what the description says is often useless for school uniform shopping. Back to school lines are often flooded with items that wouldn't pass many school uniform codes. Some shops are worse for it than others and hope that pester power gets them the sale.

Airdustmoon · 24/06/2023 07:12

They’re an absolutely standard black Clark’s school shoe? I don’t understand why the school thinks they’re trainers??

GoodTrouble · 24/06/2023 07:12

They are school shoes without a doubt.

bugaboo218 · 24/06/2023 07:13

My SEN sensory issue child has these exact Clark’s shoes for school! They are shoes!

you need to go back and challenge the school on this issue in writing (email) surely your child’s school are aware of his sensory issues? If not then they jolly well should be!

children are comfortably dressed for them learn a lot better in my opinion. I wish some schools, especially at primary age would stop being so anal over v prescriptive uniform!

providing it is clean and in school colours what’s the problem?

SugarPlumpFairy3 · 24/06/2023 07:13

They are shoes! I cannot see the school’s argument here. They are pretty much the same as most shoes from Clarks.

The dictionary definition of trainers says “a soft sports shoe suitable for casual wear.” These are NOT that!
