We are currently on holiday in the UK and my husband got a phonecall on his mobile asking to speak to Steve. He is not Steve. My husband told him he had a wrong number and the guy apologised and rang off.
The mystery part is that 2 minutes later I got a call from the same landline number on my mobile asking for Steve. My husband answered it for me and told him he still had the wrong number.
Not many people have both our mobile numbers and tradesmen would only have my husband’s number. The person ringing was from a town local to us.
Can anyone suggest what this could be about?

Ask Steve. 😆

Whenwillitallmakesense · 21/06/2023 19:32

Why would your husband answer your mobile?

And why don't you just call the number back and fund our who it was and how they got your number?

midsomermurderess · 21/06/2023 19:34

Why would you quote the entire OP, especially when your's is the first answer? I guessed only LoopyLou knows.

Fourmoos · 21/06/2023 19:35

He answered as he saw it was the same number.

I'd say someone got your dh number confused with Steve. And put his number into the phone as "Steve from the Tennis Club" instead of "Dave". Then added your number as "Steve's wife" , based on his previous mistake about DH actual name

Gingergirl70 · 21/06/2023 19:40

Wouldn't be happy with DH answering my phone regardless of whether it was same number or not.

I'm a very cynical person, but I think DP has been telling someone his name is Steve

Fourmoos · 21/06/2023 19:42

Definitely not Ginger. I was with him. He’s retired and with me most of the time.

Midnightpony · 21/06/2023 19:44

Or a tradesperson has him in his phone as Steve and you as Steve's wife, not Dave and Mrs Dave
The tradesman met the real Steve in town, Steve said can you call me, I need a quote for xyz and the poor tradesman is wondering how the f he's going to get in touch with Steve now

SheSaidHummingbird · 21/06/2023 19:45

Possibly dodgy, as it might be someone checking that neither of you are at home - in the same vein as criminals taking advantage of people posting that they are out of the house.... BUT I can be a paranoid old soul.

Gingergirl70 · 21/06/2023 19:45

As I said, just by overly suspicious, cynical mind

Ha! That's just what I was thinking. Madness.

I'd assume it was a mix up where you had both given your numbers for something or other.

Fourmoos · 21/06/2023 19:53

Gingergirl I think that’s what’s bothering me.. but he wouldn’t be able to tell where we are would he? And his number was displayed.

OP posts:
Fourmoos · 21/06/2023 19:54

Sorry that was a reply to Hummingbird.

Hadalifeonce · 21/06/2023 19:57

Completely off topic, just wondering why someone would not be happy their partner answered their 'phone?

Gingergirl70 · 21/06/2023 20:00

Have you been posting on SM about your holiday? Could he have got information that way?
Have you someone closer to home who could go check on your property while you're away?

Fourmoos · 21/06/2023 20:05

My neighbour is looking after our property.

Fourmoos · 21/06/2023 20:07

I don’t post on Facebook until we get back home.

OP posts:
Whenwillitallmakesense · 21/06/2023 20:08

I'd just give your neighbour a call and ask then to extract vigilant just in case @SheSaidHummingbird is right about someone checking if you were not at home

Fourmoos · 21/06/2023 20:09

How would they know we are not home though?

Did you buy your phones at same time and have consecutive numbers? Could be a scam call thing working their way through!

LittleBlueBrioTrain · 21/06/2023 20:10

Have you googled the number?

Arrrrr, thanks for the tech training 👍🫣😆

Kingdedede · 21/06/2023 20:11

I always ask who’s calling before I confirm or deny I’m Steve 😂

HunterHearstHelmsley · 21/06/2023 20:11

LittleBlueBrioTrain · 21/06/2023 20:10

Have you googled the number?

Exactly what I was going to say!

Fourmoos · 21/06/2023 20:14

We have googled the number and that tells us nothing.
