We are currently on holiday in the UK and my husband got a phonecall on his mobile asking to speak to Steve. He is not Steve. My husband told him he had a wrong number and the guy apologised and rang off.
The mystery part is that 2 minutes later I got a call from the same landline number on my mobile asking for Steve. My husband answered it for me and told him he still had the wrong number.
Not many people have both our mobile numbers and tradesmen would only have my husband’s number. The person ringing was from a town local to us.
Can anyone suggest what this could be about?

I work phoning customers of car dealerships to make service/MOT bookings, and we are given the numbers of the clients - often we get a couple of mobiles and a landline and we have to phone all the numbers. Sometimes the client will be listed as Mr Smith but it's actually Mrs Smith's number or vice versa - there's nothing remotely dodgy about it, it's just the way the data has been stored into their files. Could be something simple like that?

Ring the number back?

ithinkifeelaliveagain · 21/06/2023 23:48

Phone them back and say hi this is Steve, I believe you were trying to get hold of me?

Did you get to the bottom of it, OP?

Wouldn't be happy with DH answering my phone regardless of whether it was same number or not.

I'm a very cynical person, but I think DP has been telling someone his name is Steve

Why not?

Gingergirl70 · 25/06/2023 13:44

Because I'm quite capable of answering my own phone. I don't need anyone to act as a secretary for me.

If you're happy for otter people to answer your phone, that's your perogative, not mine. Is that OK with you? We are allowed to differ in our opinions without me having to explain myself to you, are we not?

Call them back & ask?. You'll get answers here ranging from your Husband is having an affair to he's a secret drug addict/dealer or he's definitely using escorts.
