To think there should be more than one toilet roll in a holiday let?

We’re staying in an Airbnb for the weekend. It’s a nice well equipped flat, though we had to bring our own towels and bed sheets - which is fine, we were warned and it’s very reasonably priced.

However this morning the loo roll has run out, and there are no spares.

AIBU to think providing just one loo roll in holiday let us unreasonably stingy?

Or should I have predicted this and brought my own toilet roll for a weekend away?

If you had to bring your own towels and sheets, I wouldn’t expect more than a starter role.

Huga · 18/06/2023 08:12

How many of you are there? Surlwy one roll would be enough for a weekend?

I'd expect there to be spares though.

WimpoleHat · 18/06/2023 08:12

Basically, it’s a self catering holiday. They’ve left one as a courtesy so that you can go to the loo when you arrive; the rest are part of your shopping for the stay.

ChocolateCoveredCookie · 18/06/2023 08:15

As WimpoleHat says.
It’s SC rather than hotel. Although I’ve never had to take sheets before, towels I do expect to take though.

wildfirewonder · 18/06/2023 08:15

YANBU. This type of tightness is annoying. I think a 4-pack is reasonable.

Four of us - me and DH and two DC. DH and I were out last night and we had a babysitter. I don’t know if there was a lot of toilet roll used last night or there wasn’t a full roll to start off with, as I wouldn’t expect a whole roll to be used either under normal circumstances.

I think you are expected to provide your own. One was there as a starter and so the bathroom wasn't bare. One roll would definitely not last the weekend for most families.

I'd say it's clear that "supplies" would be minimal if they had to take their own sheets and towels. I've had similar experiences with AirBnB that didn't provide anything at all, not a single loo roll, no soap, etc.

🤣🤣barely enough for a day in this house

WonderDays · 18/06/2023 08:21

I’ve never bought towels, sheets or loo roll on a holiday, that is so annoying.

BellaJuno · 18/06/2023 08:23

An Airbnb isn’t a hotel, it’s self catering so I’ve never expected more than a roll or two to get started then buy the rest of the supplies.

hattyhathat · 18/06/2023 08:27

How many of you are there? One loo roll per every 2 people for the weekend should be fine.

I’ve never bought towels, sheets or loo roll on a holiday, that is so annoying.

I’ve stayed in very basic accommodation with no towels, bedding etc (camping barn type places) and I’d have expected to have brought everything including loo roll).

This one is a bit unusual as it’s not basic it’s a very nice flat. They left a bottle of wine and posh biscuits as a welcome gift. I’d rather have had the extra loo roll TBH!

Yes I’d prefer a large pack of loo rolls as well.

Kazzyhoward · 18/06/2023 08:32

One of my clients has a holiday cottage. She has it listed on one of the main holiday cottage websites, but also on AirBnB. What she offers on the holiday website is VERY different from the AirBnB offering and the prices are also very different. AirBnB is "cheap and cheerful".

She basically clears the cottage for AirBnB bookings - no welcome pack, no soap/washing up liquid, no towels, sheets, etc. But kits it out fully for "proper" holiday bookings with fluffy towels, high quality welcome pack, unlimited loo rolls, dishwasher tablets, kitchen foil, etc.

It's basically a "home" for the holiday website bookings, but basically a "furnished house" for AirBnB guests.

Her listings on each are very clear as to what is provided. If people want the "full" experience, they can have it but have to pay a lot more. If people want "cheap and cheerful", likewise they can have it. Unfortunately, occasionally, she gets guests who've seen it on the holiday website and think they can pull a fast one by booking it on AirBnb expecting the same standard of quality/facilities etc!

Just one + a spare would have been ample!

It's a self catering holiday. They have left you a starter roll which is standard you have to provide the rest.

Kazzyhoward · 18/06/2023 08:34

Yep, we always take a spare loo roll, just in case there isn't much left. You just never know. One extra gives you time to buy your own next time you're passing a shop.

hopeishere · 18/06/2023 08:37

Totally depends. Not all Airbnb are "cheap and cheerful" so if you're paying more, I'd expect more. But given you have had to provide your own sheets I'd maybe have expected less. We used to bring our own until we started booking nicer places where it's generally supplied.

Roselilly36 · 18/06/2023 08:39

It’s self catering, we own a holiday let, the cleaner leaves two rolls. Everything gets taken, whole bottle of fairy liquid, teabags & coffee, kitchen roll, cling film and foil. Weird but that what happens. If the accommodation is cheap, then the owner won’t be making much out of it, by the times, she pays platform fees, cleaning etc, toilet rolls aren’t cheap these days, no one owning a holiday let will leave a big bag of toilet rolls, as they will vanish, I would guarantee it.

One roll for a weekend?! Grin

I do think it's stingy. We've had this happen to us after a flight, drive, long hot day etc and local shops closed. I always pack one roll now incase we're caught short.

Nevermind31 · 18/06/2023 08:47

Self catering holiday I’d expect to buy soap, loo roll, etc

Flossflower · 18/06/2023 08:48

I have found this in UK hotels too, including expensive ones. This is not helped as even 3 years on from covid, many hotels do not now service rooms every day. If we are staying in a hotel I usually pack an extra roll. If we are self catering I bring a packet of them. I can’t get over the person who thought that 1 roll would be enough for a short stay!

LastToBePicked · 18/06/2023 08:51

I think my normal basic expectation for a consumables is:

-hand soap
-washing up liquid
-2 loo rolls (1 on holder and a spare)
-at least one dishwasher tablet if there is a dishwasher.

Aprilx · 18/06/2023 08:54

I have never stayed anywhere that has required me to bring my own towels and sheets. But if I were to, I would expect everything else to be pretty minimal as well.
