To think there should be more than one toilet roll in a holiday let?

We’re staying in an Airbnb for the weekend. It’s a nice well equipped flat, though we had to bring our own towels and bed sheets - which is fine, we were warned and it’s very reasonably priced.

However this morning the loo roll has run out, and there are no spares.

AIBU to think providing just one loo roll in holiday let us unreasonably stingy?

Or should I have predicted this and brought my own toilet roll for a weekend away?

I think the most surprising thing on this thread has been the “absolutely no way!” comments about 1 loo roll lasting a weekend. Maybe it makes a difference I’m the only female?

So maybe roughly 12 sheets per poo and 4 sheets for a wee?
4 wees a day and 1 poo
Would be 128 sheets between 3 x M and 1 x F
So less than a roll, easily.

Being older and eating a high fibre diet makes a huge difference!😀

no one owning a holiday let will leave a big bag of toilet rolls, as they will vanish, I would guarantee it.

Basically this. It’s unfortunate, but true…..!

Yep, we had almost a whole box of who gives a crap toilet roll taken by a guest!

Northernsoullover · 18/06/2023 10:14

5 of us stayed in the middle of nowhere and there was one loo roll! We ended up stealing some from the local pub. We then had to sneak replacements for the pub back in the following day after we'd bought some 😂

DoraSpenlow · 18/06/2023 10:21

Certainly wouldn't have been any good for my BIL, SIL and niece. They once stayed with us from Friday evening to Monday morning - 12 toilet rolls!! 12. God knows what they do with it. Must wrap themselves up like a mummy every time they wipe their backsides. Good job I had just restocked. We were using the loo in our ensuite so we didn't use any.

Flossflower · 18/06/2023 10:21

@Blueskysunflower @saveforthat
We tend to stay in fairly remote parts of the UK where since Brexit they have had problems getting staff.
Yes you can ask at reception. I usually find the chamber maid and they will give me a roll from the trolley. I like to have a spare just in case.

Many people would poo at least twice a day, and consistency varies!

kitsuneghost · 18/06/2023 10:40

Was it a full roll. If so YABU. Unless you are ill, a roll is more than plenty for a weekend.

hopeishere · 18/06/2023 10:42

The quality of "self catering" varies hugely. We've rented and Airbnb in France. It's over £2k for a week. I expect loo roll to be provided.

Campervangirl · 18/06/2023 10:47

Toilet roll is the one thing I check when arriving anywhere, I even take a role when I fly abroad.
Personally I'd just buy some

HRTQueen · 18/06/2023 10:51

I would expect minimal supplies and take extra

you know if they leave a pack of four loo rolls many would take them home

continentallentil · 18/06/2023 10:56

Yes there should be.

Even if self catering, you expect soap, loo
roll and cleaning products. It’s basic hygiene. I suspect there’s a stock somewhere - message them.

It doesn’t matter, as the owner you just build that into your costs.

HRTQueen · 18/06/2023 11:07

The op has mentioned it’s very reasonably priced

i do a quick shop on route and would include loo roll I would expect there to a roll but not necessarily extra

If you had to bring your own towels and sheets, I wouldn’t expect more than a starter role.

This.

I'd say whoever has been using a mile of toilet roll to wipe their bum should be the one to go out and fetch some more!

One toilet roll for the weekend should be more than enough for 4 people.

Not necessarily a fair comment. Many of us have IBS or other bowel issues, stress incontinence, childbirth injuries like rectoceles that make toileting difficult, peri menopausal flooding issues.... I can't stand it when people make judgemental comments about using too much loo roll, it's so ignorant.

I think it pays in the long run to be a little generous when it comes to hospitality. Obsessing about costs to the point of rationing loo roll or leaving passive aggressive notes on washing up bottles is unlikely to create happy repeat customers who recommend you to their friends.

WonderDays · 18/06/2023 08:30

Yes I’d prefer a large pack of loo rolls as well.

They probably find that people take spare rolls home.

TheApplianceofScience · 18/06/2023 11:24

When we go on holiday SC in Spain, I bring a Chinese food container with detergent and some dishwasher tablets and also two loo rolls.

This is not because I can’t afford to buy them whilst away, rather that I refuse to go down the aisle of mundanity when there are usually fabulous fish counters to be marvelled at.

I'm not ignorant - how presumptuous of you!

As someone who has recurrent kidney infections and therefore uses more than my fair share of loo roll, I would always take a spare one with me so I don't get caught short.

My best mate has chronic IBS and carries loo roll in her bag even on a day or evening out!

I have found this in UK hotels too, including expensive ones. This is not helped as even 3 years on from covid, many hotels do not now service rooms every day. If we are staying in a hotel I usually pack an extra roll. If we are self catering I bring a packet of them. I can’t get over the person who thought that 1 roll would be enough for a short stay!

They may not do housekeeping every day anymore, but you can ask at reception for things like more loo roll, towel changes, etc.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 18/06/2023 19:31

I always pack a loo roll or two, whether it's a cheap B&B or a decent hotel.

Hedjwitch · 18/06/2023 19:41

I have stayed in many Air BnBs in the UK and abroad and never had to take my own bedding and towels! You must be staying in some dumps.

Sure, I was just pointing out that for us one full roll would normally be ample. To have finished a roll I guess either it wasn’t a full roll or else something happened when the DC were with the babysitter.

I’ve had it a few times, seems to be more common when it’s someone’s second home they’re also letting as an Airbnb rather than fully “professional” let. I guess maybe they don’t want the extra hassle of arranging a laundry service on top of cleaning. They’ve been far from “dumps!”

1 on the roll and 2 spare. Plus washing up liquid, hand soap, spare bin liners, 2 towels pp, T. towels and J cloths, and fresh bedding is what I provide whether 2 nights or 2 months.
