To think there should be more than one toilet roll in a holiday let?

We’re staying in an Airbnb for the weekend. It’s a nice well equipped flat, though we had to bring our own towels and bed sheets - which is fine, we were warned and it’s very reasonably priced.

However this morning the loo roll has run out, and there are no spares.

AIBU to think providing just one loo roll in holiday let us unreasonably stingy?

Or should I have predicted this and brought my own toilet roll for a weekend away?

Yes I’d prefer a large pack of loo rolls as well.

I certainly wouldn't expect that.

Usually it's all loo holders filled with full rolls and a few spares to reasonably last for the number of guests for the entire break.

Occasionally we've had to buy extras while away, but that rarely happens these days.

I op's circumstances there should have been a spare.

Weird priorities in this case. Wine and nice biscuits, but one loo roll and no towels or bed linen. Surprised that they get any takers or good reviews.

One of my clients has a holiday cottage. She has it listed on one of the main holiday cottage websites, but also on AirBnB. What she offers on the holiday website is VERY different from the AirBnB offering and the prices are also very different. AirBnB is "cheap and cheerful".

She basically clears the cottage for AirBnB bookings - no welcome pack, no soap/washing up liquid, no towels, sheets, etc. But kits it out fully for "proper" holiday bookings with fluffy towels, high quality welcome pack, unlimited loo rolls, dishwasher tablets, kitchen foil, etc.

It's basically a "home" for the holiday website bookings, but basically a "furnished house" for AirBnB guests.

Her listings on each are very clear as to what is provided. If people want the "full" experience, they can have it but have to pay a lot more. If people want "cheap and cheerful", likewise they can have it. Unfortunately, occasionally, she gets guests who've seen it on the holiday website and think they can pull a fast one by booking it on AirBnb expecting the same standard of quality/facilities etc!

I'm sorry, but I think that is very strange. Airbnb is not cheap and cheerful. I mean it can be, but that's really not the vibe now.

We only book with superhosts (maybe that's the difference) and with excellent reviews. All have been the same or better standard than any other holiday let we've booked. We are very fussy and have never been disappointed.

Where are all these self catering holiday homes that don't supply basics like washing up liquid and loo rolls? Where are these being found?

I'm not being arsey, I'm genuinely surprised that people think this is the norm.

As I said, we've been almost exclusively renting holiday homes for 40 years.

If you had to bring towels amd bedding, then I wouldn't expect toilet rolls to be provided.

When I have rented holiday apartments in France we have gone for clean but fairly basic city apartments. It seems the norm to have to hire linen separately (they are often in a locked cabinet in the apartment).

I expect to have to go to the local Monoprix at some point to stock up on toilet roll and a couple of basic cleaning items. We've found there is usually only one toilet roll provided and the kitchen may have a motely collection of cleaning stuff left behind by other guests, although the last apartment we stayed at the toilet had a bum gun!

We're just back from a week in a European city where we rented a very expensive air bnb for its amazing location. Four of us. Two loo rolls. A tiny pouch of detergent. One spare black bag. Nothing to wipe down work tops etc. I think it's mean when charging for premium accommodation

If it was cheaper than cheap (compared to similar places on Air BnB) because they don’t provide bedding, towels etc and the listing clearly said so, then you knew what to expect. If the host is just being cheap by not providing bedding, towels etc then YANBU.

I agree Air BnB is technically self catering, but it’s also meant to be a home from home where you can prepare meals and not be cramped like you are in just a hotel room. I’ve never used an Air BnB that doesn’t provide basics like towels, bedding, toilet roll, hand soap, tea, coffee and sugar (I don’t expect shower gel, toothpaste, shower cap etc) like a posh hotel provides etc). Some have provided fresh milk, biscuits and even a fruit bowl/cakes/wine/chocolate but I certainly don’t expect a stocked fridge. If more hosts start skipping on the basics to keep prices down I’ll go back to using Travelodge/Premier Inn. I’m not lugging stuff for two kids and bog roll, bedding and towels by train to London 🫣

Our last airbnb (a few weeks ago) supplied lovely bread, butter, homemade marmalade and ham, milk, fruit juice, tea, coffee, sugar, 2 types of cereal and a delicious homemade cake.

The cottage also had hand soap in kitchen and bathroom, washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets.

Plenty of loo rolls too.

Jam not ham.

Maybe the cleaner deals with supplies and the owners arent aware?
