I've been on Mumsnet for around 10 years now, I have read some crazy threads.

I'm lying in bed hungover and looking for some stories to brighten up my shameful Saturday afternoon.

If anyone wants to share it would be greatly appreciated Grin

OP posts:
8misskitty8 · 18/06/2023 08:35

Another one from years back was about taking revenge on ex’s.
People suggested prawns in the curtain rails and putting stuff under floorboards etc.
Posters where falling over themselves to suggest bordering on and actual criminal things to do to ex’s or stuff they had actually allegedly done. It was crazy.

SouthernFashionista · 18/06/2023 08:38

The now defunct Mumsnet Vogue / MNVogue threads on Style & Beauty were always a bit entertaining in an eye roll kind of way. One of the more prolific posters was absolutely loaded and the rest of the posters would try to outdo each other in sucking up to her to be in line for her castoffs.

Did a search and the original thread was from 2008 !
Although there are many threads after then that have someone recommending prawns in curtain rail as a revenge on ex’s, and house buyers.
So either the original poster did a name change and put it in multiple threads or hiding prawns for revenge isn’t such an unusual thing !

FatCatBum · 18/06/2023 08:47

The crazy thread where the OP freaked out because two blokes parked their car while she was walking down the road at night, so I think she barked at them. I wonder if it was the same poster who made owl noises....

FatCatBum · 18/06/2023 08:57

Variations of hiding prawns in the curtains/curtain poles/air vents/under floorboards as revenge have been around for decades (along with cress seed on the carpet) so the OP was just regurgitating an urban legend

There was one about puddles and awful neighbours that sounded ridiculous but haven’t been able to find it again

Anyone any ideas on this one?

Stravaig · 18/06/2023 09:03

The minge mist one, hilarious and affirming at the same time.

Fanny Condensation. On plastic chairs. Just me?

Stravaig · 18/06/2023 09:25

@LifeIsPainHighness Highlands child free wedding, and the update. Mumsnet wedding batshittery in all its glory horror insanity!

Abhannmor · 18/06/2023 09:35

I think the woman who screamed at the Sistine Chapel sounds very sweet actually. Although I can also relate to her DH beetling away in embarrassment 😂

I remember that one. It was during lockdown.
Seemed to be about the shared alleyway and neighbours taking the gate off and I think they said it was their alley ?
Neighbours accused the op of flooding their garden. Something about the roof and guttering ?
Police where involved as the neighbour had family members come round and threaten/intimidate OP

Anyone any ideas on this one?

It went on for about 4 threads, but then OP had a name change fail, and was discovered to be a load of old bollocks and they were all pulled

mananarama · 17/06/2023 16:03

That has made my morning... everyone understood the assignment!

Mars27 · 18/06/2023 10:06

I haven't read all the posts in this thread but following suggestions I've been to Mumsnet Classics and I found a thread about the couple who used to shag on the hedge of a woman's house and I swear I got winded and couldn't breathe because I laughed so so much Grin

She involved her NDN, there was some sterling detective work, a dog who couldn't dog properly, worth every single post in it

EyelessArseFace · 18/06/2023 10:09

The one about how to prise a Santa hat off a spiky cactus, it's in classics now I think. Utterly batty.

And the current one where the OP has bought a 10ft outdoor pool and has no way of filling it with water other than jugs and a washing-up bowl.

MrsToothyBitch · 18/06/2023 10:11

The wolf one has had me cackling! I also recall the bison one, where the OP is livid that they might be reintroduced to the UK.

TidyDancer's wedding one - where she was asked to save the date, but later discovered it was because the bride wanted her to decorate the venue, not attend as a guest. Some of the suggested replies on that had me howling - "I'm sorry I can't, I'm saving the date" and "maybe next time" were gold.

I hadn't seen the garlic and worms one mentioned upthread but I do recall another one where the OP already had shoved the garlic up her arse and had gone to work- with interesting results. Also a thread that I think was about keeping smells at bay on public transport. Someone, I think the OP, mentioned that they always had a pomander in their handbag- this detail over took the thread!

Papergirl1968 · 18/06/2023 12:06

Apologies if this has been me turned already as I haven't RTFT but the current thread called what has the handyman done with my nightdress is quite entertaining. The op's slinky black nightie has mysteriously vanished while a handyman was in the house, with almost everyone jumping to the conclusion he is either a cross dresser or had taken it...ahem...for his own pleasure 😂

Maireas · 18/06/2023 12:13

I saw that one, @Papergirl1968 - it's so silly. It follows lots of threads about handymen/scaffolders/builders being generally cheating, untrustworthy sexual deviants.
There's a lot of that on this site.

Agree, that one is pretty good!

That op outed themselves as a troll.
They had two threads running.

The puddles one and one I think about some woodland and they had a nc fail so it was obvious they were both the same poster.

I think mnhq quietly deleted the threads

Ahsoka2001 · 18/06/2023 12:57

"Do you dunk your penis"?

Rogue1001MNer · 18/06/2023 12:58

Oooops.

Sorry @HotdogCat
Hadn't seen your post

HotDogJumpingFrogAlbuquerque · 18/06/2023 14:08

No so much bonkers but the thread where the op was decorating a neighbours no parking sign. She was adding bits every couple of days in the dead of night and no one knew it was her - I loved reading that in real time.

Also the 2 parking ones - one with garda Olaf and the other where op blocked the school mum who’d parked on her drive and left it for the weekend (sorry, bit hazy with details on the second)

Also shout out for the playmobil threads

Yeah remember it being multiple threads and involving council or environmental agency or something inspecting the garden. So it was all made up? Lmao

Stravaig · 18/06/2023 14:36

Think I've found the ford ranger/locked parking/visiting brother thread!

Starts here. Five instalments, see pic of titles (actual links are wonky now).

I think MNHQ started them.
One was about a shy, anxious single mum whose batshit neighboyrs claimed incessantly that her garden caused puddles in theirs.

The other was a long-running parking thread where the feisty and amusing OP sat at home every evening, watching her neighbours' parking shenanigans.

Both threads went on and on, at least four threads each.

Until the OP of the puddles thread had a name change fail, and all was revealed.

MNHQ deleted all the threads immediately.
Very suspicious IMO.
