@saltinesandcoffeecups dumb waiters were/are a thing but here they were only really in the really posh houses (in London) definitely not in a railway village in the North.
They still would have required proper building works to have been fitted in, if they weren't built in when the houses were built.
Our house did have a small housekeepers room, which was turned into a second bathroom post war.
Middle class Victorian doctors house so some staff but not really posh.
I have loads of historical papers & records for the house so its interesting to see it's past.

A super powerful magnet that attracts all of DHs beard hairs he leaves all over the place when shaving

Vitriolinsanity · 17/06/2023 20:09

@HappyFeet63 could your design be modified so that, once dressed, you step in and your clothes are steamed so you don't need to do any ironing?

Notellinganyone · 17/06/2023 20:11

Magic bath mat that dries itself.

LuckyPeonies · 17/06/2023 20:12

A remote control that can mute noisy infants and kids. And adults as well. 😀

An instant meal machine that produces whatever you want to eat without shopping, preparing, cooking. ❤️

A satnav for anxious drivers that you can programme to avoid super busy routes like town centres, right turns across dual carriageways etc etc!

Oh yes, and one that will avoid merges. They make me go all hot.

Lessoftheold · 17/06/2023 20:25

House windows that display beautiful views which could be changed at will. A nice sea view, or a snowy mountain - or even a live view of a busy city centre anywhere in the world. I'd never want to leave the house Smile

OnlyYellowRoses · 17/06/2023 20:29

A full body warm oil massage machine that you just lay under and it gives you a massage like you'd get in a spa

MíIuil · 17/06/2023 20:51

A bra that doesnt stick to your back and get all tangled on itself after swimming.

countingdaysuntilretirement · 17/06/2023 21:02

A line in a contrasting colour that runs straight down each leg of your tights. Use it to get them on straight (or is it just me that spends ages twisting them). Your body heat then changes the colour to blend in with the rest of the fabric.

I have a laundry chute and it’s amazing.

I want a whisk that flattens for easy washing.

Joseph Joseph do folding whisks, about £8 from memory

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 17/06/2023 21:06

Maybe you could use quartz for the cat GPS? I'm not sure how it works, some sort of witchcraft I think. (Physics not my strong suit...)

I would like a thing like it that flash(?) advert where they just peel off a layer from the whole kitchen and it's clean. Also bathroom. Or whole house.

My sat nav would have an option of 'most sensible route' or 'if I lived here which way would I go?'

Hair dye and nail polish that is 'smart' and you can change the colour with an app.

wonkylegs · 17/06/2023 21:08

A robot hoover for stairs would be good

A thing to automatically put those annoying blue shoe covers onto your feet.

They exist but about £100.
I dont know anything else about them just that I've used one during covid.

We've given up with collars because they just keep losing them and there's the risk of snagging injuries.

Laundry chutes might work if they could be attached to the outside of the house, as there's no room for them to be installed inside.

Upstairs laundry rooms won't work because you still need to take the washing outside to hang it up, so unless you're suggesting that it also has an outside drying area, it's a non starter nobody with outside space should be tumble drying in this weather unless all occupants of the house are physically incapable of hanging washing out.

I have no answers to the toaster crumb problem.

Self cleaning bathroom fan and smoke alarms that last 50 years without having to change the battery.

LivingOnAPear · 17/06/2023 21:27

I love the beard hair magnet.

I want an invisible machine which applies invisible suncream to my kids without them noticing. And for it to be long lasting.

and the washing and detangling machine that someone mentioned.

Rogue1001MNer · 17/06/2023 21:38

Underfloor wine vats with a filling point on the kitchen counter.

That is genius @Vitriolinsanity

Could you also please invent slimming alcohol. The more you drink, the thinner you get

MassiveWordSalad · 17/06/2023 22:07

Shrink ray.

Imagine being able to shrink all your crap so you never run out of storage space.

Imagine being able to shrink your car or bike and put it in your pocket until you need it.

Cracklecrack · 17/06/2023 22:10

Junk food- chocolate, crisps, whatever that tastes exactly like the real thing but lots less calories and I actually nutritious.

Cracklecrack · 17/06/2023 22:10

O yes. Is that what the ‘honey I shrunk the kids’ guy was trying to do?
