How long had you been together before your partner proposed to you?

15 months, got married 12 weeks later, been married 20 years.

midsomermurderess · 16/06/2023 19:01

A PBP? It's an oddly anodyne thing to troll about. Or is she looking to start a tiff around 'proposals, pah!'

LT2 · 16/06/2023 19:05

3.5 years

LT2 · 16/06/2023 19:06

Should also say we were teens when we met. 22 and 23 when engaged. Otherwise it would seem a long time, but we were young!

Pollywoddles · 16/06/2023 19:06

Got engaged on our third anniversary, just after we bought a house. Married 10 months later.

Coffeepot72 · 16/06/2023 19:07

Six weeks

nutbrownhare15 · 16/06/2023 19:07

After being together for 3.5 years we talked about it and decided to get married 18 months later. No proposal or engagement ring.

HelpIcantfindaname · 16/06/2023 19:09

4 & a half years.
We had both been married 2x before & each had a teenager living at home.
We had been together 4 years 4 months when we moved in together.
He proposed 2 months later on Christmas day & we married the following June. It's nearly our first anniversary.

MrsO3 · 16/06/2023 19:12

Together 6 years before we got engaged, we'd already bought a house together before then

Bharath · 16/06/2023 19:14

Three years. I told him pretty much from the start that was the max time I was willing to waste on a man without a commitment. Our third anniversary came and went, and I was packing my suitcase to leave him. Then he decided to propose.

There was no joy. I was angry that he’d waited until past the deadline, and put me in the situation of having to decide to leave and the emotional trauma of actually packing. I felt like he didn’t choose to propose of his own accord, he was just forced into a decision. With hindsight I should have stuck to my guns and left. Because there’s a difference between someone marrying you because they want to, or marrying you because they don’t want to lose you.

BenandGerrys · 16/06/2023 19:17

1st husband - 6 months.
2nd husband - 18 months.

tulipsunday · 16/06/2023 19:17

Over 8 years 😂 we were together since uni though so didn't actually want to get engaged any sooner.

Whapples · 16/06/2023 19:18

10 years to the day!

Furrydogmum · 16/06/2023 19:20

He didn't.. was a joint decision.

Polis · 16/06/2023 19:27

He didn't.. was a joint decision.

Isn’t it always a joint decision? Forced marriages excepted, obviously.

HotNBovvered · 16/06/2023 19:29

We moved in together after 2 years, had a baby after 3 years,..and then decided we had better get married after 5 years together Grin.

Mischance · 16/06/2023 19:29

He didn't - I did.

MrsO3 · 16/06/2023 19:31

@Bharath are you still married?!

FuckNuggets · 16/06/2023 19:32

I proposed to him after 4 months. Blush We did wait 4 years to get married though.

HollaHolla · 16/06/2023 19:32

About 8 weeks. We were very drunk, and I told him not to be so ridiculous. We ended up mutually agreeing after about 14 months.
However, we then stayed together without getting married, for another 5 years — and then split up before we actually married. So, not the best example!!

Andywarholswig · 16/06/2023 19:36

He didn’t. We knew we’d get married but moving continents and the death of my lovely dad meant that it was about 7 years before got round to marrying

Andywarholswig · 16/06/2023 19:37

We did move in together after 6 months though and he asked me to move to Australia on our 2nd date..

Caroparo52 · 16/06/2023 19:44

Why does this "proposal "ideal still exist"?
Call me unromantic but really? In reality the woman agrees to carry the burden of a useless male for life just so she can fulfill her Disney fuelled dreams of being a happy ever after bride and abide by the morals of the Church to give birth in wedlock.
Reality- equal partners in career prospects and income, female more mature and self sufficient because that's the way it generally is. All she really needs is the sperm, without the dead weight.

Caroparo52 · 16/06/2023 19:46

And...?
Still married?

Ragwort · 16/06/2023 19:50

No formal proposal ... that's absolutely not mine (or his) style, we mutually agreed we wanted to get married after dating (long distance) for a year. We both then sold our own homes about nine months later & bought a new house together & had a very quiet wedding - coming up to our 35th anniversary Grin.
