Nothing is touching my hayfever!

This year is mad, and I’m not functioning. Aibu to not have a clue how to cope.
lots of tablets, nasal sprays, eye drops and I’m still streaming. I can barely work and I think my sinuses are a mess too now. I can’t sleep.
for the natural remedies, my neighbour keeps bees and we always have local honey.
I shower off, everything. It’s like it so systemic there’s no blip

Has anyone got prescription or OTC eye drops that work? Currently using Sodium Cromoglicate 2% (Opticrom) but it's not having much effect.

I'm using cetirizine, beconase since easter and a bit of vaseline round the nostrils and under the eyes.

BoogieBoogieWoogie · 18/06/2023 16:48

My son gets heavy early morning nosebleeds but is this due to hayfever itself or the nasal sprays?
Just wondering as he’s going away on a sports residential and I want to give them some accurate details in advance

warning- don’t jump down my throat as I’m not an anti vaxxer but apparently (I have heard from multiple people) people are putting the worst Hayfever season yet down to the covid vaccines!
I’m suffering worse than I ever had this year and I had 3 jabs. I hope it’s not true but I don’t know what to believe anymore

I've had shite hayfever for the last 40 years, so nothing to do with vaccines.

Honestly what utter tosh some people would like us to believe just to further their narrow and unscientific world view. 🙄

The only thing working for me this year is a
religious regime of fexofenadine and the beconase nasal spray…

Crikeyalmighty · 18/06/2023 17:26

It's giving me very sore eyes this year rather than streaming eyes.

Diedre44 · 18/06/2023 17:28

I've been using fexofenadine 120mg but every 6-8 hours seems to be the only way it helps. I've tried to find info on max dosage but not found anything, I don't seem to have any adverse reactions that I'm aware of. Costco have 10pk of 7day boxes Allevia for £13.99 + vat cheapest I've found.

treesgrowtall · 18/06/2023 17:58

Every year used to be like this for me, some a bit better, some worse. I did immunotherapy 5 years ago though, and when it’s peak season the most I now get is slightly itchy eyes, and even the most basic antihistamines make the symptoms go away. I took oralair for grass allergy.

My friend who is a doctor (GP) told me informally that I shouldn’t be taking more than one fexofenadine per day, but I’ve read on here a few times some people are prescribed 2-4 180g fex a day. My own GP is calling this week so I’ll ask her if I can safely take at least 2 daily . I’ve been staying in a lot as I WFH and don’t have to leave my house but next two weeks I’ll be out and about a lot.

Whatadayyyy · 18/06/2023 19:27

Has anyone had side effects from allevia? I started taking it on Tuesday and I’ve had an upset stomach every day and feel completely wiped out. Not sure if it’s the medicine or if I’m just run down from lack of sleep

I’ve never had a vaccination in my life and my hayfever is crazy. I know other the same!

I take Loratadine but twice a day if necessary, plus Beconase and Opticrom.

I also keep clean flannels or cotton napkins, rung out in water and frozen in ziploc bags.

Run under a very cold running tap and wring out when needed and place across eyes and bridge of your nose. As well as soothing your eyes, it reduced nasal inflammation and makes it easier to breathe.

MeeThree · 19/06/2023 13:52

@Whatadayyyy it upsets my stomach too but I am putting up with it because it's working. Can't wait to stop taking it though!

Sigmama · 19/06/2023 14:23

You live near the coast, jump in the sea, or cold showers

AmenAmin · 19/06/2023 22:18

Funny, I wrote this in hell… but something has changed in the air here suddenly since last night. I slept through and went outside fine. It’s back to being annoying after two weeks of pure misery.
I’m hoping whatever it is is done pollinating! Normally it’s worse after rain too, but it’s like a switch

@Whatadayyyy I've had to stop the fexofenadine today. Having said I could tolerate it, I just couldn't cope with another day of tummy upset and commuting and work argh. Here's hoping my hayfever doesn't hit me too hard instead

I was the exact same, stopped it a couple of days ago and I feel sooooo much better. It wasn’t working enough for me to justify the constant stomach upset and feeling totally wiped out. Back on the Benadryl which seems to make a bit of a difference. Going to order the nose spray too as that worked quite well last year from what I remember
