Nothing is touching my hayfever!

This year is mad, and I’m not functioning. Aibu to not have a clue how to cope.
lots of tablets, nasal sprays, eye drops and I’m still streaming. I can barely work and I think my sinuses are a mess too now. I can’t sleep.
for the natural remedies, my neighbour keeps bees and we always have local honey.
I shower off, everything. It’s like it so systemic there’s no blip

For those who’ve had the steroid injection, where did you have it done? The closest place I can find to me is miles away (I’m in a large town!) and it costs £90+! 😬

I really sympathise, 180mg Fexofenadine does F all for me. I already take a cocktail of loratadine and cetrizine, along with a hayfever nasal spray and eye drops.

One of the only things that sort of worked for me was a steroid nasal spray prescribed by my GP. I also wear sunglasses outdoors (even when it’s not sunny), rub Vaseline around my nostrils, and use an air purifier in the house. I’m still miserable for 2-3 months of the year. It’s unbearable and the last couple of years have been particularly bad.

I live near Derby, if you’re anywhere near or in the midlands I can send you the link but otherwise I’d get googling and see if any other town or city near to you does it ! They are all 40 ish around here so that is steep!!

@Work2live

Try a local aesthetics business! I had mine done by the same place I've used for years (for holiday nails 😁)

mrwalkensir · 16/06/2023 15:44

anybody else finding that the whole sinus thing also gives them vertigo?

mathanxiety · 16/06/2023 15:46

Go to your doctor and get a prescription for montelukast.

faw2009 · 16/06/2023 15:54

Wearing a mask has helped me. And washing face/arms/wetting hair everytime I come in from outside, plus changing clothes.

ConstitutionHill · 16/06/2023 15:56

Fexofanadine does nothing for me.

2 x 10 mg cetirizina morning and night.

Beconase one spray in each nostril daily (too much causes nosebleeds)

Opticrom eye drops.

The key is consistentcy.

Go to your doctor and get a prescription for montelukast.

Had to Google that one. TBH the poss side effects sound a bit scary. My regimen below really does work if you stick to it so I probably will give it a miss. It must be helping you though?

My husband has used the Lloyds infrared nose thing this year, he says it has helped hugely. I've heard much less sneezing that normal

I took 3 cetrizine yesterday to get on top of it and it worked. It’s a very safe antihistamine.

Three?!! How the hell do you stay awake?

grimmers44 · 16/06/2023 16:14

Have you consulted the doctor? There are stronger drugs on prescription. As it happens I've just been prescribed Dymista (prescription only hayfever drug) for something else and it's knocked my hayfever totally on the head (and I'm not taking anything else for it)

Snowdropsarelovely · 16/06/2023 10:43

Does anyone know what the maximum dose is for fexofenadine? I am prescribed 180mg once a day but I'm sure more would help !!

I take 2x -180 tablets but that's dosage that the doctor prescribed me.

peanutbutter00 · 16/06/2023 16:18

Kenalog injection sorted me out last year, it's very reduced symptoms this year

Theunamedcat · 16/06/2023 16:22

Anyone else coughing with it? I think it's coming from my nose hitting my throat causing the constant cough but I genuinely am pissed off at it now fenofexidene isn't touching it I take ceterizene and loratadine too on bad days plus nasel spray it works then stops and the cough begins

HelloCanYouHearMe · 16/06/2023 16:38

I'm on 180 of Fexofenidine - the only thing that makes me feel normal

My 15 year old is on the max strength fen (120) as won't give the 180 as under 18.
Eye drops and nose drops, and still she wakes up looking like she has done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson.
She can't breath through her nose either and it's making her very down.
Phoned GP this morning and was just told tough and that loads of people are suffering to and she will just have to get on with it till September.

In the USA the OTC Fexofenadine 180 is suitable for over 12 years. I stock up while we’re there at Easter and give both my 14 and 12 year olds 180 per day. If I were you I would buy a pill cutter and buy 120 tablets to cut in half.

JaceLancs · 16/06/2023 17:24

I take 180 fexofenadine in morning and montelukast at night and am still really suffering
I’m using rescue inhaler all the time and eye drops too

LaPerduta · 16/06/2023 16:03

It’s non drowsy isn’t it? Anyway, I feel absolutely fine. Only doing 1 a day now. You need to get rid of the symptoms then go to maintenance. Nb I am not a medical professional.

Aria20 · 16/06/2023 18:39

My hayfever started in feb this year! But it's been horrendous last 2 days making me miserable as I can hardly breathe. Have done the usual nose spray, eye drops, multiple tablets. My gp doesn't prescribe anything for hayfever! My 5yo dd has been really suffering too and they won't let them wear sunglasses outside so after forest schools her eyes were red bloodshot and puffy. She has an eye spray and the liquid piriton but only provides relief for an hour or so and I can't go to school multiple times a day to dose her up!

Holymotherforkingshirtballs · 16/06/2023 19:16

What nasal sprays have you tried? Have you had avamys? If that hasn't worked there is dymista which is a combination antihistamine and steroid nose spray. Important to make sure you are using it correctly and not spraying straight up but rather towards one side otherwise it will go straight up your nose, down your throat and end up in your stomach rather than sat in your nose where it needs to work.
Kenalog injections were stopped by the NHS for good reason as the risk of side effects outweigh the benefits.

Dippydinosaurus · 16/06/2023 19:18

I went to boots and they advised fexofenadine (allevia) 120 but the pharmacist nearly had a heart attack when I asked if I could take one there and then when I'd taken a Benadryl (which doesn't work this year) earlier that day and said absolutely not 😳. Does anyone know if you can take two per day? Or take a Benadryl later in the day.

It is much better than other antihistamines I've taken and (for me) completely non drowsy. It just starts up again in the evening

Whatadayyyy · 16/06/2023 19:22

mrsneate · 16/06/2023 12:38

I had the injection. Within 48 hours I was like a new women! This is the worst my Hayfever has ever been this year! X

I paid £45

Do you have to get the injection thru the gp? What is it called?

TopBitchoftheWitches · 16/06/2023 19:22

I've never had hay fever. This year I do, it must be awful for regular suffers. My eyes are always full of gunk.

TheFTrain · 16/06/2023 19:26

You may think I'm crazy but intermittent fasting has sorted mine out. I eat my last meal of the day at around 7pm, skip breakfast the following day then eat at lunchtime. I try not to eat after 8pm. So it's 16 to 17 hours without food an 8 hour eating window.

There's some research online if you want to google.

Tried fenofexadine, it worked a few years ago but not this year

I’m taking double dose fexo (under GP advice), allergy eye drops, nose skooshy thing , and it’s brutal. I’ve also got these hay fever wipes and eye spray from B&M, which gave me some temporary relief when sitting in a field at the Common Riding last weekend.
But yes. It’s awful right now. If I could get a hook into the very centre of my head for a damn good itch right now, I’d be delighted.
