Plants in the bathroom

On the app so can't enable voting but AIBU that bathrooms are immensely improved by having green plants in them?!
My boyfriend thinks they look cheap and ghastly, I feel they offer a preferentially oxygenated environment as well as looking aesthetically pleasing Flowers

May be influenced by having a few in my house, he has a modern property (Mild Castle Greyskull for all my tattlers) which would suit a few trailing tendrils

We have plants in our bathroom. Ferns are often nice and like the moisture.

Ponoka7 · 15/06/2023 23:13

I've got spider plants. I got one, forgot about it, so it had lots of babies and now I've got them in the kitchen, bathroom and living room. I've also got aloe Vera. They do make a difference to the atmosphere.

Tinkerbyebye · 15/06/2023 23:13

Mine has a spider plant in. I have plants all over, they are really nice to have

lottiegarbanzo · 15/06/2023 23:14

You are right.

honeyy123 · 15/06/2023 23:16

Hanging a eucalyptus plant around your shower head not only looks good but has benefits to relieve stress relieves nasal congestion coughs and body aches

Pigglepigs · 15/06/2023 23:16

I have a peace lily in the bathroom. Looks great with the flowers.

Wyndam · 15/06/2023 23:20

Peace lily, 2 aloes, a pothos and a dragon tree in my bathroom.

longtompot · 15/06/2023 23:29

We have a peace Lily in our bathroom which is thriving. I also have some spider plant babies just been potted up and once one has taken well, that will be in the bathroom too. They really help with air quality and definitely do not look 'cheap and ghastly'!

icelollycraving · 15/06/2023 23:32

It would be cruel of me to have plants. I kill them all. I have fake ones.

UsingChangeofName · 15/06/2023 23:37

YANBU, although personally I don't have any, I do like them when I see them in other people's houses.

scrivette · 15/06/2023 23:43

I have two Aloe Vera plants that have had babies. They seemed to like being pretty much neglected and I think they look nice.

Davros · 15/06/2023 23:45

I think plants belong outside. I don't like house plants (and I have a habit of killing them)

Hoffi · 15/06/2023 23:48

I send plants on holiday to the bathroom if they're looking miserable in other parts of the house. They usually perk up in the steam and light, and then get banished back to their glum home.

Changington · 15/06/2023 23:49

I have a peace lily and an aloe in the bathroom, and a couple of other plants above the kitchen sink.

Only plants which are directly next to a water source survive in my house, else I look at them, think "that needs water!" and then forget. Rinse and repeat until the plant is dead.

TheEverdelightfulsamantha · 15/06/2023 23:58

Sadly no windows in my bathroom or it would be full of plants!

You wouldn't enjoy my house, then! I have lost count how many house plants I have. A rough estimate would be 60-ish.

RobertsRadio · 16/06/2023 02:17

I love plants in the bathroom. Sadly my current bathroom is very small with no space for plants, but in my last house I had a couple of maidenhair ferns in the bathroom, they were lovely.

Davros · 16/06/2023 08:22

MyLostSock you must be really good at looking after them and love them, which makes a difference 🪴

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/06/2023 08:49

Your BF is seriously weird to think they look cheap and ghastly! Wherever did he get that idea?

Dobbyatemysocks · 16/06/2023 09:36

@MyLostSock you sound like me, last count I had about 50-60 plants!

I love looking after my plants after my therapist suggested getting a plant to nurture and grow, much like looking yourself.

I love nothing more than buying the most sickly plant at my local Asda (normally reduced), bringing it home and nursing it back to health.
I did this last month with a peace lily. Should have been £3.50 reduced to 99p!
I've just split it into 7 separate plants and may have to split the 2 larger ones down even more! I am quietly confident that I could have as many as 12-15 lilies by the end of July.
We've just moved into a new property and I have a conservatory now so this has been great for my plants. I have 3 types of cheese plants that started off as 3 poorly plants. Most have now been split into 3 or 4 further plants. One was a banana cheese plant that stated on the label that it would only grow to be 1metre tall - don't think my plant can read as it is now nearly 1.5 metres AND it's still growing! I think by next summer it will reach the ceiling in the conservatory.
I have just sold a separate 'swiss' cheese plant to a local garage for their reception area - I paid 50p for this plant about 4 years ago. It had one leaf on it and everyone said it would die ot now stands at over 2meters!!
I sold it for £75!!

This afternoon I have 6 hanging baskets to make up for family and friends.

My bathroom has a mix of peace lilies, ivy (fake as I love my tiles) succulents and spider plants (keeping everything crossed that she has babies)
OP, if your partner is dead set against living plants you can get some lovely fake ones. But do shop around as I've noticed a big difference in prices. Asda do some lovely little succulents in a white pot for £1 - I have them dotted around all over the place and they look great.

My plants make me smile. I've even been known to do a silly dance whenever they produce a new leaf.

We have orchids in our bathroom, they are really beautiful, and give it a bit of a spa like feel. They're flowering at the moment which is really nice. They seem to thrive in there.

CalistoNoSolo · 16/06/2023 10:51

I struggle to give houseplants the care they need so have very few plants indoors. I do have a spider plant in the bathroom though, and he thrives in there, plus he's very elegant and goes perfectly with the pale blue walls. I guess its down to personal taste what we all find tasteless, but I do love sharing my home with a variety of living things.

mydogisthebest · 16/06/2023 10:55

I love houseplants and have 105 of them! I also have quite a few pots with a number of cacti in which I do not count individually.

I have 21 in my bathroom

halfpasteleven · 16/06/2023 22:05

@Dobbyatemysocks I love your post!

grayhairdontcare · 16/06/2023 23:06

Every room is enhanced by plants.
